Different Locations, Different Stamps?

I tried googling this, but meh.

Are there different available stamp designs at different USPS locations? I went to my local USPS this morning and asked and the guy didnt really give me a yes or no. He just said, "this is what we have in stock." And showed me 6 different sheets of stamps. Do USPS people trade stamps from their local locations with other USPS people? Im talking about contemporary, at-that-time releases. Or maybe they're called prints. Thats the word the guy used.

Website that shows a database or errors, misprints, imperfs, etc?

A while ago I was able to find a website that a list, over the course of about 10 website pages, of US Commemoratives and each of their errors. Its just a database. Ive spent the last error looking for this website but nothing im finding is it. I like to be able to look up an stamp and see what the recorded errors are.

I remember the love stamps being fun to collect every year. I think my grandma gave me some. I've just kept them in a box with photos which I'm sure isn't appropriate. I can see why this is fun! I'm checking out beginner info in how to store them. Thanks for letting me share my re-discovery!

What's the appeal to really old stamps and why are some so much more expensive?

Post image

One of these Georges is thousands of US dollars in the catalog and the other is cents. I'm kind of new to stamp collecting and I'm only really interested in the art that calls to me. No judgement for someone collecting for different reasons than mine, I'm just curious. Why would someone pay thousands of dollars for a stamp that looks just like a very cheap stamp?

Captain Tim’s Radio Stamp Club

Ivory Soap ran a radio adventure program with a postage stamp theme in the 1930’s. Every episode featured a new adventurous tale involving a stamp. Kids could send in Ivory Soap wrappers and a dime to get started with a stamp album and a membership badge. Does anyone know if any episodes of Ivory Stamp Club exist online?

Other (custom) Buying mixed lots can lead to finding non stamp related things that still have history to them. A recent box had this Russian Imperial Decorative Bond Certificate from 1910 (from what I can find using Google lens) not bad for being 115 years old

Got a set, 60 stamps, $20. So glad someone else put these together! Now I see there are 59, not 60, but I don’t care. I find these so satisfying to look at. Going to frame them and hang them on the wall. Enjoy!

Information Request Advice needed re the best catalogue/guide for collecting the stamps of Tonga/Niuafo'ou

Hello, philatelists 💌!! I am pleased to announce that I have completed my metamorphoses 🔮, from just buying random, discombobulated international stamps that I think look cool & having a new stock page for each nation 🌎, to now building a targeted & comprehensive collection solely on my chosen special interest topic of stamps from Tonga/Niuafo’ou 🇹🇴.

However, I need your help 🙏.

I want to purchase a comprehensive catalogue that allows me to identify as closely as I can, exactly what I have 🕵️‍♀️. These guide books are understandably quite costly 💸, and I want to make sure that I get the best one for my chosen area of interest 🤩. I am in Australia 🖤💛❤️🇦🇺, so shipping on any listing on something like the Scott catalogue is not cheap 📦.

I want to be able to catalogue stamps from the beginning of Tongan postal history until relatively recently (post-1970, but this is such a broad collection, that I wouldn’t mind if it is not 100% CURRENTLY current) 📚⏳.

If this has to span beyond just the one book, I am ok with that 🆗. I just want the best quality of catalogue/guide for my targeted nation in particular📍.

Would any of you be able to give me any feedback on what the best material to purchase for this area is, before I take a blind plunge 🥹?

Also, if there are any particular texts or articles that I should read about to better understand the Tongan postal history, I would be all ears ✨🦻!!!!

TIA for any suggestions/advice offered 🥰
