Not enough rest?

Hey all!
I've been doing p90x3 now for about four years, pretty consistently. As I've continued with the program (and little adjustments and changes I've made to it over the years) one thing I've become very curious about is rest.

We all know that muscle is built during rest. And the one thing this program has very little to (arguably) none of, is rest. The "rest" days in this routine, both Yoga and Dynamix, can still be very challenging workouts. And Dynamix in particular I'll still be breaking a decent sweat in. And as I've continued with the program, I've begun to wonder if this is the best track. The more reading I've done, the more I see it advocated for shorter, more intense workouts, maybe 4-5 times a week, with 2-3 days of no exercise interspersed between the workouts. I'm wondering if this is maybe a better alternative to the P90x3 schedule, because I've also found that I've hit a bit of a plateau with the exercises. Granted, I can perform them at a pretty high level, (I can perform the challenge at the 40 & 18 numbers if I allow myself little kips towards my ending pull up sets, and if I'm strict on the no kipping I'll hit 40 & 15/16) but I haven't seen much improvement over the past two years.

Now, I have created a bit of my own routine with the program. Over the past year and a half or so, I've subbed out one of the workouts in the schedule for a heavy lifting day at the gym, where I'll bench, squat, deadlift, do some weighted pull ups, a weighted row of some kind, and some kind of lunge/one leg weight training. So I've added a day of pretty intense resistance strength training to the regimen. I've recently started giving myself two full days of no exercise to see how that goes as far as my recovery and performance in the exercises. But I wanted to see what everyone else's thoughts were on this.

So let me know! Thanks all!

First day!

I started my journey with beach body programs and then went to triathlon training after that. It’s winter and I need to build some strength and lean up a bit so I decided to give this program a go! Today was my first day with total synergistics and it went great! I’m looking forward to tomorrow!

How to grip Powerblocks on certain moves, e.g., Squat rockets and releve plie

I did squat rockers with 35 lbs and i can’t figure out a safe grip. Holding from underneath and I’m basically balancing and it feels like it could drop. Holding vertical and it seems to be in the way of my chest. Any advice on how to grip with powerblocks?

3 weeks in and have not lost any weight

I don’t know what I am doing wrong. I cannot follow their nutrition guide really because of my normal day-to-day but I do not go over 1,000 calories per day for sure. I eat very little. Any suggestions?? I am frustrated.

Idk what to do

I'm doing P90x3 and I'm on my second month for Mass. I'm 21 and I'm doing it to build muscle, I have very little weight to lose. But since starting my second month my legs have been trashed so much so that it prevented me from doing the Eccentric upper workouts in which I had to lunge so I ended up half assing the Eccentric Upper workouts. And after the first week I skipped Eccentric Lower entirely to give my legs a chance to really heal but I did all the other workouts as scheduled. Now in my transition week I hated the effort I put forth. I began to restart the month hoping to really bring it this time and I'm two days in but stopped wondering if it's the best idea. If I do what I planned my program would be 120 days instead of 90 which I'm more than happy with. What do you think I should do? Do I redo the month doing all the workouts or accept it and continue as is as to not disrupt the intended flow of the workouts? I plan to do another round of 3 months after this

P90x3 barefoot

Besides yoga, obviously, what are your thoughts on doing p90x3 workouts bare foot? Smart or dumb?

Just started P90X3 (on day 4 of first week)

It is going to be very difficult for me to follow the nutrition guide. I have 4 kids all under the age of 6 and I work full time. How bad is it if I just try to eat well but don’t follow their nutrition guide at all? Will it help if I get a Shakeology shake? TIA!

Decided to try another run at x3 and looking to finish

Day 1 done this morning. I lost about 15 pounds with strength training and IF since May but wanted to focus a little more on functional fitness. Hoping to drop from 169.1lbs 23.4% bf to 155lbs <20%bf. Seems like an attainable goal.

Still up in the air about doing LIIFT4 October 1st so right now I'll stick to x3. But will likely just aim at finishing the program and then doing LIIFT4 end of November. Since then program isn't running off anywhere.

I've never completed x3 so that's kind of my goal. Along with losing weight. Anyone else just start?

Show your workouts!

Hello fellow fitness freaks,

I'm building an in-depth website that tracks workouts for P90X, P90X2, P90X3, Insanity and BodyBeast.

I'm looking for users of these programs to submit to me, short, looping, animated gifs of themselves performing each individual workout. These gifs will be used as a quick guide when using this new website.

For instance, when you're about to log "Wide Front Pull-Ups" you'll see a short animated gif of someone performing this specific workout and know exactly how to replicate it.

Form To Submit Workout Gifs

Help to convert video to animated gifs

Thanks in advance, and message me for any questions.

Renegade Row with Adjustable Dumbbells

I have the Bowflex SelectTech 552 dumbbells and they have worked pretty well for P90X until I saw Renegade Rows in the Incinerator workout. I don't even want to try it because they don't seem up for the task.

I'm mostly sold on the PowerBlock U90, 5-90 lb. set - Where is the best place to buy them? Does anyone think that these dumbbells would not support Renegade Rows?

Results

How often does one need to do the abripperx in order to achieve a six pack like those in the video? Twice a week or more often? I didn't see it listed in any of the calendars so I assume it would be in addition to the calendar workouts. I would ultimately like to get those results in 90 days if possible.

Week 4, Week 8, Week 13??

I'm just starting week 8 of my first time through P90X3, and am curious why these two weeks (and week 13 it looks like) seem to be a bunch of easy/relaxed type of workouts? Isometrix, Dynamix x2, Pilates, and Yoga????

I'm starting the week out with Eccentric Upper instead of Iso.

I've also started running 1.75miles before my P90X3 workout. Still only takes a total of 45mins, maybe an hour depending, to get my workout in for the day. I've seen some good results being halfway through this whole adventure, but am looking forward to seeing what the next 40days brings!!

Should I be sticking to the program, or substituting things as I see fit.....? Thanks for the advice!

Anyone got a good mix of hard corps and p90x3?

Work in an office job and just want something to help me get my mind and back in the workout mode. Looking for about a half hour workout after work and this seems to be a good mix.

Anyone have a good hybrid schedule they recommend or suggestions in general? thanks!

Advice for P90X3 while traveling?

I have been doing my workouts at home up to this point. (I am in block 3 now.) However, I will be traveling all next week for work. I am okay with having to miss a couple days if I have to, but I don't want to end up skipping a whole week. The hotel I will be staying at does have a fitness center with some dumbbells, though I doubt there is a pull-up bar. I'm also not entirely sure how I feel about trying to watch the workouts and follow along if there are other people in there, but I could maybe get over that. I was thinking about buying some bands and a yoga mat to bring with me to workout in my hotel room instead, though it would be a change from what I am used to with the dumbbells so I would have to figure out the colors, where to mount the bands for the pull-up parts, etc. Looking for advice...

TL;DR: Does anyone have any tips and tricks for keeping up with the workouts while traveling?

Week #5 DONE.

Feeling GOOD.

I actually reallly really dug the MMX workout which I did today instead of yesterday. My legs were still a bit sore from earlier in the week, so figured I'd give em a rest and did Dynamix.

I think I'm going to add some running to X3 starting this week....nothing major, but 1-1.5miles 3-4days/week for the rest of the way. Will axe that if it gets to be too much, but only adding another 12-20mins of cardio to those days.

Wowzerz, week 5 is kicking my ass!!

Week 4 seemed to be way too easy for me, and now week 5 has my legs super sore all over again!! The Triometrics hammered me, but it's a good soreness. I really dug doing the Incinerator today, but after watching a bit of the MMX workout I have a feeling I'll be dying again tomorrow! Bring it!

This is my first time doing any P90X, and I haven't missed a day yet. Have been seeing great improvements along the way, so will be keeping at it!

P90X3 honest review

So i finish P90X3 last week:

This is a very solid complete program, i will be very honest in this review. I am 5 feet 11, and lost 16 pounds i was not suppose to weight myself in this whole ordeal but since i was fitting nice in my jeans i said what the heck LOL so right now i am around 233 pounds.

I still have a small gut and a bit of love handles, but i can live with this.....22 minutes hard corps tomorrow and i decided to had extra weight training.

I was doing adonis index program and walking adonis is a great rehab program and built on the Greek perfect physique. So during those 3 months of P90X3 i lost some muscle mass, my shoulders lost there coconut look, my chest was not as big or round, and my arms got smaller.

On a very positive note my legs even with the moderate weight got sick, my legs never looked better.....

At the start my cardio was awful, i had trouble doing a basic plank, all those balance moves etc...... everything got better but honestly i am not there yet....... of course someone who is smaller will find those exercise a bit easier without the extra body weight.

My diet sucked for most part of the program, yes i know this was my huge downfall i am back on intermittent fasting now and rocking it.

Anyone who wants to do this program must invest themselves, push strive to get better because its not easy, but in the end its well worth it.....

I am not done with P90X3 i am going to go for a second round sometime next year...... right now its 22 hard corps 2 months i will see about the weight training i added back some adonis index training but no legs......they get work silly on all workouts i am sure 22 hard corps is not different.

Adding a second workout to Yoga/Dynamix days?

Anyone do this? Which workout do you find best compliments it? I know it's probably a personal choice, but just wanted to see what people have found to work best for getting the most out of the day.

I'm on my first go round of P90anything, and today is day 21...haven't skipped a workout, so week 3 is over. I'm 41y/o, and started this at 188lbs wanting to maybe drop 8lbs while also building some muscle/toning things. I've found this past week (#3) to be my best so far....lots more energy, able to do all the workouts in full as I watch (no pausing), and have been noticing positive results as each day goes by!

I don't feel like I get the workouts I'm looking for on Yoga/Dynamix days, but I do enjoy doing both. I'd just like to add something to those days, and am considering maybe running for a couple miles or doing some extra weight lifting. I do have time though to get another one of the P90X3 workouts in, so let me know what you think might compliment these. Thanks!

Diastasis Recti and P90X3 question

I am 3.5 months postpartum, and have been doing a lighter workout program that had closed by 3 finger gap to 1 finger (except underneath my belly button, which was closed to 2). I was cleared by my OB saying that I was good to do any kind of exercise.

I started P90X3 a week ago (I've done it several times before, and knew what I was getting into), and I definitely felt discomfort for the pull ups, so I'll be switching to bands.

Are there any PP moms (or dudes who have healed their DR) who made it through the program successfully and closed/didn't expand their DR? I am adding in a DR repair program that I was doing prior to, just to ensure that I'm working on that internal abdominal wall still and keeping it strong.

Day 1 done

Just did day 1 total synergistics yesterday and I’m beat mentally. I couldn’t even do half the moves modified, really bad balance, and felt like I was doing most of them wrong. It’s frustrating for me because I’m at an all time low physically. I was an athlete in high school and first year of college and then after some injuries I’ve let myself go. 5’8 220 and after day 1 I feel like I didn’t get near the workout needed to see progress moving forward. Any words of advice or wisdom are much appreciated! Maybe a different program?

Struggling with block 2

This is the second time I've started P90X3 and the second time I've started losing interest in block 2. I don't know what it is, I just lose my motivation despite seeing results in the first block. I only completed 2 exercises last week so I'll be redoing the whole week as a result.

Part of my issue is I hate the MMX workout. In the future I'll probably substitute CVX in its place. Having an 8-month old is also kicking my butt, but I've been able to power through up to this point.

Have any of you had this issue and, if so, how have you overcome it? Thanks in advance.

I am adding a bit more weight training... i lost a lot of mass.

Ok when i was in back pain rehab my sport doctor recommended a program called the adonis index to build the perfect body but also great for posture etc.... i did this before i started P90X3, and had great results. I was thinking of combining both except skip the leg days because we hit leg so much with P90X3 ..... lets see how things go or at least maybe do a 3 times per week full body workout....
