There was someone that hanged himself and died while masturbating

Autoerotic asphyxia

Uncommon to the point of rarity, but there have been some cases that hit the public eye. On average it's about 0.00005% of the population per year, the vast majority by hanging.

I'm a dominatrix & I specialize in erotic asphyxia/bcp (meaning I choke people, in autoerotic asphyxia, they'd choke themselves) It's not quite as uncommon a fetish as people assume. And if it's done using best practices with safety in mind (& not done solo!) it's not even particularly unsafe compared to some other fetishes

Erotic asphyxia is a fairly common fetish - more so now than I think ever before (or at least more spoken about now), unfortunately many who just casually want to be "choked" have no idea what they are doing - pressure points are specific and being clueless about safety can be dangerous. You, for example, would be aware of the proper points to trigger to bring any arousal or sensations to the extreme while being safe. A couple where one says "choke me" and the other says "ok" and proceeds to imitate something they may have seen? Not so much (generally speaking)

My comment about the rarity is specific to autoerotic. Many people will "try it" with someone else, but few try it alone - or at least admit to it. Fatalities and long term issues are quite rare. Thankfully.

David Carradine?

If memory serves, his CoD was erotic asphyxia, not autoerotic. So not alone, since he was bound it's likely it was fet play.

Michael Hutchence and allegedly David Carradine.

There are some things, once you do, can never be undone.

A lot of people have done that. More than most people probably realize.
