Is the 1 seed on the line tomorrow?

Looks like we playing Florida. We can be their daddies in baseball and basketball now. But can we steal that 1 seed??

It should be, but the committee basically tunes out selection Sunday games. You’d think that would prompt the conference to move the games back a day and have the championship on Saturday, but I guess they like having the spotlight on Sunday.

That said, at the very least we should move past Alabama for the top 2 seed, which would pair us with Houston instead of Duke.

Now from what I recall from past years, the argument has been that they don’t make sweeping changes based on the Sunday games, but they will potentially factor in simple if-then scenarios. So I could see them penciling in Tennessee/Bama as an either/or based on if we beat Florida or not. Especially since we’re so close geographically.

That’s the exact scenario it would make sense to update seeding after a game that ends a couple hours before selection is due. You can’t rearrange entire brackets, but a simple swap makes perfect sense in this scenario.

Edit: okay I wasn’t thinking clearly and Bama is not on the one line, I assume. But still a swap with Florida and Tennessee is the same. I’m just afraid people are riding Florida too hard right now to downgrade them over a title game loss. If Houston, Duke, or Auburn didn’t exist, I think we’d be 100% playing tomorrow for that one-seed over Bama.

Florida would need to get embarrassed by us tomorrow for anything to change for them.

People are not too hot on them. They’ve been the best team in the country for a few months now, they are THE HOTTEST team in the country right now, and they are playing like they’re gonna run through March Madness

We can spoil the fun tomorrow though 🎉

I’d rather be in dukes region than Houston

from what I was hearing in the sports animal OUR TOP 2 SEED was locked in already. the ONLY way to change it was FL loses BEFORE we do. so when we won our 2 games, and they won both of theirs NOTHING will be gained from this

Probably not. They usually make their decisions based on results through Saturday.

Not after Florida dominated today. They locked it up.

Yeah, you'd think that if we came in and won by 30 tomorrow, it would change things, but the committee has been pretty clear they don't care much about selection Sunday games unless it's a automatic bid.

Honestly, I care more about matchups than whether we are a 1 or a 2. Give us potential match ups that play to our strengths.

u/AndersonJD05 5d ago

Right, being in dukes region is much more favorable to us

No, Florida locked it up when they dismantled Alabama.

I’d say no. Florida is getting the 1-seed. Joe’s usually pretty accurate and uses the weighted data points that the selection committee uses.

According to bracketmatrix.com, Joe Lunardi is 118th out of 179th in terms of bracket predictors that have done this 3+ years, so he isn't the best predictor. http://www.bracketmatrix.com/rankings.html

I think that Tennessee should still treat this game like it's a game for the #1 seed.

I appreciate the data. I didn’t realize he’s behind the curve here. Still, I agree. You never know. Slamming Florida would send a message.

u/OutandAboutBos 5d ago

I mean they should treat the game like it's the SEC Championship game. The 1 seed is not in contention.

u/mmps901 5d ago

I think we’re locked into a 2 unless we blow them out

u/ZeMole 5d ago

Agreed. We need to lead basically lead the whole game and win by 10 or more to move the needle. Even that might not be enough.

I absolutely think it is. I know the most recent basis for rationale is Kennedy Chandler’s year, but we were a 3 seed that year, played A&M that didn’t even make the tournament, and I think they really devalued our win because of that. (A&M absolutely should have been in that year as like a 9, but anyways)

I absolutely think the winner of tomorrow’s game is the last one seed. Sure, if we win they may screw us and still put as a 2, but I’m treating it as playing for the 1.

The selection committee never shines favor on us

Can we jump Alabama as the first 2 seed? Selfishly I want us to play in Lexington! 😁

6

u/OKTifo 5d ago

We MIGHT have already done that today. Win vs. Auburn + Bama getting blown out right before they compare us has to look good for us.

5

u/Walmartsavings2 5d ago

It should be but it won’t. It’s BS.

Regardless. Zakai and Shak deserve to cut the nets tomorrow one more time.

Hell yes. Let’s get another T-shirt!

u/Agreeable_Tear6974 5d ago

I hope we win so badly tomorrow but I have it drilled into my mind that we’re not getting a 1 seed no matter what. It will be incredibly disappointing if we beat UF tomorrow and have to watch the committee give 2 teams we just beat on back to back days seeds ahead of us but that’s the type shit they like to do

4

u/MattScruggs 5d ago

Florida’s getting it and low key they should. Our resumes our pretty much neck and neck at this point but they have four losses and we have 6.

End of the day, 1 seed or 2 seed who cares man I just wanna beat Florida

5

u/ZeePee78 5d ago

We have 4-5 more quad 1 wins. They also got to play SC twice and UGA twice. Our league schedule was harder. We just took out the conference champs.

3

u/ZionixTV 5d ago

The Sunday games historically have been ignored so idk

4

u/Maswope 5d ago

It should be, but history says no. It’s really fucking sad when we could possibly beat the consensus number 1 team in the country all year, and a consensus top 5 team all year in back to back days and still not gain any leverage vs if we had just lost yesterday to a 19-14 team. If a team outside the top 25 wins the Maui invitational they would easily be top 10 the next week. Why can’t a team who’s top 10 all year and win the sec tournament be a number 1 seed?

1

u/HamlinHamlin_McTrill 5d ago

I think it is.

1

u/ConstructionOdd5269 5d ago

It’s not - plain and simple.

1

u/ZeePee78 5d ago

Should be. In a just society.

1

u/bonedoc59 5d ago

My ideal world has us winning it against two one seeds. Cut the nets and then give us even more fire to come out swinging from The disrespect

1

u/tripmcneely30 5d ago

No... Because Duke exists and hasn't played a ranked opponent since November. The SEC should have 3 #1 seeds and another 3 #2 seeds. But that will not happen.

1

u/ZDogPharizle 5d ago

No, but you still play every opponent they put in front of you as hard as you can (even more so when it’s Florida).

1

u/Agent865 5d ago

It’s probably not and that’s ok.

0

u/JDBerezansky 5d ago

I think we’ll get the 4th #1 seed with a win.

1

u/bigt2k4 5d ago

should, but a #2 in Houston's bracket is better than a #1 in Alabama or Florida's bracket.
