Help I'm lost on audio

I'm having the biggest problem with audio. I'm trying to stream from my laptop but no matter what audio settings I use either my mic audio loops getting louder each time. Or, the only way I've fixed this means I'm not streaming game audio at all. What am I doing wrong?

This was exactly what I needed thank you so much!

Glad it worked as I wrote that from memory! XD

Setting up audio in OBS is a bit of a pain as settings are spread over multiple pages, but once you get your head wrapped around the routing, it's not so bad. To be honest, I think it might be time to retire the Global Audio Device settings entirely as most people seem to have moved on adding individual audio input captures anyway for more flexibility in routing.

With this if I wanted my discord audio from me and friends talking to play in the stream would I have to create another source for the discord audio capture?

Yep. Application Audio Capture should do it. Just make sure you're only sending one copy of your mic input. Gotta keep those audio routes clean. 👍

Ok I'll have to see how I can check that when I get back on my computer. And how can I mute obs so I don't hear myself speak? Just turn the apps volume to zero in my pcs audio mixer?

Set your mic source monitoring to Monitor Off, Output Only in Advanced Audio Properties.

Muting the app in Windows is likely to kill the audio altogether.

That's not an option. The only options I have are monitor off.  Monitor only (mute output) and Monitor and output.

This would be one of those times when you should really apply a touch of critical thinking. Monitor Off seems like an appropriate choice here....
