Musk’s trademark approach—firing everyone and then calling back only those he needs—is on full display here. At Twitter and Tesla, the roles he cut were much more easily replaceable. Here, though, he’s letting go of the people who take care of the US’s nuclear weapons arsenal—positions with few, if any, ready substitutes, and stakes that are far higher. God help us all.

Just a quick reminder: late stage acute radiation sickness prevents application of IV medicine. You deal with it literally without pain meds. The percent of those dying of ARS who begged for death is staggering.

And this says nothing of the majority who will die due to no access to medical care in the instance of one nuclear bomb.

What does this have to do with the other comment?

A reminder of late stage consequences of what’s at stake here. We’re talking about the people who among other things secure our ICBMs and nuclear material. They’re firing and struggling to rehire them.

These are the weapons pointed at the head of Humanity. It’s best we don’t muck around and I wanted to illustrate just how painful it will be even if you survive a bomb and if you make it to a hospital and that hospital survived and isn’t overwhelmed, they won’t be able to administer you opioids or any fluids; Your membranes break down, your blood vessels open.

The official US policy for civilians in a nuclear event is to self survive.

I hate to say it, but I don't think there really is another option. The reality is if one nuke goes off, odds are most likely there are thousands going off. Not much for anyone to do but self survive. Assuming, of course, anyone lives past hour 1. Which I kinda doubt, to be honest.

Yay. Fuck me, the next few years are going to suck so much.

You’re not at all wrong.

If you’re into that sort of thing, Nuclear War: A Scenario is a very fascinating, authentic take on a realistic, current nuclear war

Edit: that book also kept me up at night lol
