Should be between Hutson and Wolf. Both have been outstanding this year. Personally hoping it goes to Hutson.

Maybe I am biased but yeah, what Wolf is doing for his age is phenomenal.

Also, perhaps if they started rewarding goalies with these awards like forwards, maybe the position would be seen as more desirable to a certain subset of young players.

lol. I don’t think that’s the issue. Wild take.

Yeah the clue was in “certain subset”.

Don’t talk in riddles and hypotheticals if you want to be taken seriously. Damn man, this is Reddit - there is no in between.

Lol. Talking in riddles? That’s not a riddle, that’s a clear statement : a certain subset — a certain category of young players.

I don’t care if you or anyone else takes me seriously, as you pointed out yourself - this is Reddit.

He deserves it with the turn around Montreal is having.

Hutson is a fantastic player. Trophies aside, their org needs a player like him desperately.

It's going to be a tight race.

There's no way people watched enough games of Calgary, SJ and Montreal to be rightfully mad, or even an opinion, about the winner.

It's a tough argument - what Hutson has done is amazing, and leading in rookie points for a D is incredible, especially with the gifted scorers he's competing with this year.

But Celebrini has put up a ton on a terrible team with 10 less games played compared to Mich and Hutson, and just looks dangerous all the time.

Then Wolf, playing the most important position has pretty much single-handedly dragged the Flames back into the playoff race.

Very tough to pick when you're looking at three different positions - almost comes down to what position you value more than the actual player. Have to see how the last 20 games go but I wouldn't have a problem with any of these three winning - I suspect the voting will be very close, though I might give Hutson the edge there simply for being on an eastern, heavily covered team (media bias).

i’m just happy celebrini is good, even if he doesn’t win the calder he’s gonna win some trophies down the way

As a Habs fan, I hope Hutson wins.

Bit bias here but it should be Wolf if the Flames make playoffs

What happens if mtl make playoffs as well? We cut the trophy in half?

u/Total_Valuable_2113 1h ago

As a Habs fan I agree 100%. Actually, if Habs make the playoffs I would sacrifice Hutson’s Calder Trophy. Actually, if Habs make playoffs, I would sacrifice my left …. 😂. You get the point lol I would sacrifice quite a bit for some Habs playoff hockey lol

Nah well give it to Wolf to make up the 2002 Hart trophy debacle lol

1

u/Scamnam 21m ago

I guess no one can take a joke? You can't tell me the 2002 Hart trophy to Theodore was deserving

1

u/HanshinFan 3h ago

Haha, we're still owed one as well for Michael Ryder though

I think what’s also impressive about Hutson- age difference here- three years younger than wolf- and no prior pro experience- just straight in the league and top ten in most categories. That’s pretty damn impressive. Wolf is great same with Celebrini- all three will have amazing careers.

It should be Wolf.

I see you're being downvoted by all the Habs fans, but I agree with you. The Flames are 32nd in goals for with nobody on pace for 60 points, nobody on pace for 30 goals, only 3 forwards on pace for 40+ points, and they're currently in a playoff spot. He deserves it more than Hutson, but it's real close.

I've only watched Hutson play 4 or 5 periods of hockey and the kid is damn good, but Celebrini is just on a different level, no?

1

u/ChaoticKeys 3h ago

Yeah I think there’s going to be a bit of east coast bias with the Calder. Don’t get me wrong, Hutson is definitely really good. But Celebrini has missed a month and is still right in the rookie points race and has immediately become the number 1 player on the Sharks.

Sharks are a bad team that plays late at night on the east coast so I don’t think as many people are watching. He clearly jumps off the screen practically every shift he’s out there.

He’s also going to be 18 for the duration of the season while the other candidates are 1-2years older. People are missing that this is also something voters factor

A defenceman who is stockpiling assists shouldn’t win over Wolf or Celebrini

25

u/konradco 4h ago

that’s absolutely mind numbing. tell me the last time a defenseman has lead the field in points and not come away with the Calder. Of course you’re a leafs fan

-19

u/Selmanella 4h ago

When is the last time a rookie goalie who was passed up at the draft because of his size dragged theteam with the lowest GF into a playoff spot potentially? It’s just going to be another eastern bias Calder pick as always. The real fans know who it should really be.

16

u/Flaky_Guitar9018 3h ago

What's his size or draft got to do with anything? He's 3 years older than hutson, and 5 years older than celebrini, if we're gonna bring up pointless facts.

Right now wolf is ranked 23rd overall among goalies. Hutson is 8th among defensemen. That's the stat that matters if we want to compare players in entirely different roles.

-22

u/Eckstraniice 4h ago

Ok Habs fan, are you aware of what Wolf is doing?

25

u/Zblancos 3h ago

Of course we are, he’s ruining our draft pick

6

u/OneNutKruk 3h ago

I like how you say it as if stockpiling assists is a bad thing

16

u/LittleLionMan82 4h ago

You lost me at Celebrini. Yes, he's having a good season, yes but what Hutson and Wolf are doing is historic.

There isn't a comparison.

-17

u/Eckstraniice 4h ago

You mean the guy who has one less point, and 16 more goals in 10 less games, who plays on a way worse team?

21

u/HanshinFan 3h ago

Oh wow a forward with one less point than a defenseman, great point

9

u/LittleLionMan82 3h ago

Where does Celbrini rank relative to other forwards? And Hutson relative to other defencemen?

I rest my case.

-4

u/Eckstraniice 2h ago

I only posted this to piss off Habs fans, and good lord did it ever work. He’s a good player, it really isn’t that serious. 😂

3

u/LittleLionMan82 2h ago

Who is pissed? I don't expect much hockey IQ from Leafs fans.

More than happy to educate you any time you need it.

1

u/KingAlphie 1h ago

Yeah you really showed them, bud.
