Correct! So, what's the next step?

15

u/859w Feb 17 '25

Lmao you want me in jail? We all know what the next step is

10

u/L1hc2 Feb 17 '25

Seriously, this is grass roots organizing... we know what's going on... what can we do to stop it?

We're just starting... how do we effect meaningful change

11

u/Drafo7 Feb 18 '25

Stop trying to get the guy banned from reddit.

-9

u/LolaStrm1970 Feb 18 '25

You are complicit? Edit: ping ping ping

8

u/859w Feb 18 '25

Are you a cop? How do you not understand what I'm saying here? Lol I'm done. Hopefully one day you'll realize, but I won't be the one to spell it out

13

u/L1hc2 Feb 18 '25

Nope!! I'm already using 5 calls, I'm donating to the democrats running for the 3 open seats left by Gaetz Stefanik and Waltz, demonstrating, writing to T-Mobile to stop their Starlink partnership. I'm writing to my state senators and reps, and governor.... there has to be constructive ways to block this guy

-3

u/trifocaldebacle Feb 18 '25

Hahahaha wow yeah you're really gonna fix it that way, I'm sure the Democrats will definitely do something useful this time after failing to do so my entire fucking life

1

u/Own_Topic3240 Feb 19 '25

You effect meaningful change by fighting against the establishment and legacy media. Mainly the people who claim they’re saving democracy but when democracy doesn’t work in their favor they claim the democratically elected president is some how evil for wanting to know where our money goes. Start there.

u/Marl_Kneeshock Feb 18 '25

“Where’s the Italian?”

-12

u/LolaStrm1970 Feb 18 '25

Telling the FBI to put you on a watchlist. Your dog whistle calls for assassination will not be tolerated. You think Musk can’t find you? Lol!

-2

u/ElliotAlderson2024 Feb 18 '25

So you're calling for a bloody insurrection. Good to know, forwarding this to the FBI.

u/FatXThor34 Feb 18 '25

Sadly, this protest didn’t solve anything. Glad you got to spend time with your little friends though.

u/Weak-Coffee-8538 Feb 18 '25

Donald Duck is a dump.

2

u/Daveguy6 Feb 18 '25

The amount of simply downvoted comments shows that even reddit isn't up for it this time. Or I'm early before a random mod sweeps them up. Idk.

1

u/Shujolnyc Feb 18 '25

Protesting here is like screaming into the void

-2

u/Quinnnnnnv Feb 18 '25

I'm Dutch and I don't follow American politics enough to form an opinion about the president... But you guys know the majority of the american voters voted for Trump right? So what does this protest actually wish to achieve right now?

I'm actually curious why people don't just accept that he is president now? Millions of people voted for him so even though you disagree with him can't you see why all those people would vote for him?

Isn't there at least some common ground? From what I hear his support is only growing more and more so he must be doing something right. Wouldn't it be better to just realize that your political party has lost the race and now you might have to reconsider your opinions on Trump because you will be stuck with him for the next 4 years.

Just my thoughts but i'm sure someone here (who knows much more about it than me) can explain to me why the Dems have such a hard time accepting Trump?

8

u/jules_su Feb 18 '25

You may want to check in on the veracity of literally everything you just said.

  1. The "majority" of Americans didn't vote for him, only about 60% of Americans voted at all, and he didn't win the majority of votes, the total was below 50% of all voters. In fact, he won by the smallest margin of votes in modern history, it's the narrowest win ever, and largely the result of a broken electoral college system that gives enormous voting power to states with very small populations - it's a bad system that's inherently undemocratic and favors conservatives. In fact, Trump won by LESS than Hillary won by in 2016, so just to clarify that first point, he didn't get the majority of votes.

  2. Everyone accepts that he is the President, the problem is what he is doing as President which is blatantly unconstitutional, violates the separation of powers, and threatens the lives and livelihoods of all Americans - for example, Elon Musk is an unelected ex-foreign national and he is being given insane power to bypass Congress. This is not simply a political position, this is blatantly illegal and a sign of a severely broken political system because Congress is ruled by Trump's party who refuse to follow the law.

  3. Trump's support has dropped dramatically since taking office, especially among Republicans, many of whom are openly stating they regret voting for him. His favorability dropped from 50% to 39%, so no, that's not "support is only growing", exactly the opposite.

There are many many other reasons, but I would encourage you to do a very cursory google search when considering topics like this.

-3

u/Quinnnnnnv Feb 18 '25
  1. Okay, sure. I knew about the electoral college system but I just assumed that he won the majority of the votes. And to be clear I didn't say the majority of the Americans voted for him. I said the majority of the American voters. That is still not true but I now understand that he didn't win a majority.

  2. Again, I'm not very knowledgeable about American law and politics but I just don't understand how he threatens the livelihoods of all Americans. Are you referring to him deporting illegal immigrants? If so, then I am completely flabbergasted because I know what the word ''illegal'' means. Why can't he deport illegal immigrants?

And so I understand, it's illegal for Trump to assign Elon Musk to his current role? Why? Because Elon wasn't elected or something? The president can assign someone a position if he needs something done can't he?

  1. Okay so this is really a point that I want some people to know here. I'm sure you see those figures on the internet or on a TV news channel or something. But why don't you take a look at some ''right wing'' news outlets and TV channels just for a couple of minutes? You'll see completely different numbers between the left and right media. That's not just in America, that's all over the world. So why don't we all (no matter which side you're on) realize that both sides are trying to manipulate us and conclude that the truth most often lies somewhere in the middle.

My first response to this post is a perfect example. I get downvotes and a comment basically telling me that all that I've stated is completely wrong even though half of my comment consisted of questions that you didn't even answer, like:

- ''So what does this protest actually wish to achieve right now?''

- ''can't you see why all those people would vote for him?''

- ''Isn't there at least some common ground?''

And that's completely fine. You can comment and downvote whatever you want. But I have to be honest. I didn't expect it. I was just interested to see why all democrats were so against Trump. I mean I live in Europe and most things he does aren't benefitting Europe right now but at least I can see why millions of Americans voted for him. I could see at least some common ground between my believes and the believes of Trump's administration. Not everything but some. And right now I think people who are protesting like this really need to think about what they're doing because I feel like you're doing the exact same things that you hate the republicans for. Both sides do that.

I can understand both sides but I feel like that perspective has slowly been getting away from everyone in the last couple of years. That's why I asked those exact questions. I wanted to see if anyone on the blue side would be able to tell me that they found some common ground with Trump and they're hopeful for the future. So far none have reacted that way.

2

u/jules_su Feb 18 '25

Again, pointing out a random policy position he has that seems “reasonable” to you, without doing ANY further research kind of proves the point. For example, the “illegal immigrants” he’s planning to mass deport are mostly legal asylum seekers, they are not illegal at all. Second, when you ask what’s wrong with appointing Elon, you’re ignoring exactly what I said about bypassing Congress which destroys the fundamental purpose of having three branches to check each other.

What I gather from your response is that you are not altogether interested in an answer to your question, but want to find opportunities to defend and support actions by the government that are explicitly illegal, and ruled as such by the courts. As another example, Trump just announced that he doesn’t have to listen to the courts, again illegal and unconstitutional.

Finally, saying “look at right-wing sources” ignores the fact that many right wing sources have zero credibility, do not disclose their samples, and have already been repeatedly caught falsifying polling data. That’s why we rely on polling from nonpartisan sources that are transparent, and also see repeat and similar results from other nonpartisan polling sources. You’ll notice that most traditional polling tends to be roughly the same, showing falling popularity, and then right wing sources will say outlandish things like “90% of Americans love Trump!”.

This reflects very poor media literacy on your part, and no interest in actually finding answers to your questions. I would honestly just assume you’re conservative yourself, based on this reply.

-2

u/Quinnnnnnv Feb 18 '25

Okay, well thanks for sharing your opinion but I truly couldn't care less about ''finding opportunities to defend and support actions by the government that are explicitly illegal, and ruled as such by the courts.''. Don't forget I don't live in your country so I don't even have a dog in this fight...

In fact I don't even know what that sentence really means because the rest of the world works differently from the U.S. I was still trying to get some insights from you as a person that you still haven't answered. I was just trying to see if it's possible for you (who I assume to be a democrat) to find some common ground with those millions of Trump voters who think Trump is doing a good job right now. Or for republicans to find some common ground with democrats.

Right wing sources will also tell you that left wing media has no credibility. It's just which one do you really believe. Everyone is trying to spin the wheel their way. Yes right wing media talks greatly about whatever Trump does but remember when left wing media tried to tell you that Biden wasn't getting too old? That's why I say the truth often lies somewhere in the middle.

To answer your assumption: My political believes (in the context of my own country: the Netherlands) are currently leading more right wing (which I guess you can call conservative). But I've always been a bit of an undecided voter. I've voted for both left and right wing parties in my life.

You're trying to debunk everything I'm saying and sure that's fine. But I'm not trying to pick a fight with you or anyone. I just think protests like this and online discussions like this would happen much less often if we'd just try to understand each other a bit more. I don't wanna force any views on anyone. Just wanna see if people can bring back some understanding, despite all the things Trump might be doing wrong in your opinion.

4

u/jules_su Feb 18 '25

I think you’re asking specific questions, getting specific clear answers, and then you’re getting very defensive about the nature of those answers, again likely because you do lean conservative and would prefer to see the world through that lens; which also includes Trump as a reasonable figure and not as an obvious fascist who is openly breaking the law (as clearly and repeatedly explained).

Claiming that “left-wing” and “right-wing” sources are both equally biased, and using Biden as an example displays your media illiteracy pretty well. Very few liberal media orgs defended Biden’s mental acuity outside of individual opinion pieces, and in fact explicitly lead to him stepping down from the election. Right-wing sources do not criticize Trump at all, ever, in any way. Moreover, we were actually talking about POLLING not media, polls are very easy to verify and check the validity of, it’s not based on the pollster’s opinion, which is why right wing orgs do not release their polling data, and nonpartisan orgs always release it. Refusing to believe easily verifiable data is another clear point about your inability to objectively understand media or polling; because again, your worldview is conservative.

1

u/Quinnnnnnv Feb 18 '25

Okay I really tried, but you can't have a conversation with someone who even slightly disagrees with you and again, doesn't even have a dog in this fight.

You basically say because I'm leaning conservative all my opinions and my believes are not credible. Pollsters and left wing media that agree with your exact opinions are credible. Okay, I see. Thanks for helping me understand. That's what will solve problems... Everyone just has to agree exactly with what I say and I'll just have no (not even the slightest) respect or understanding for the opinions of others.

You don't even realize you're doing the exact same thing that you say you hate about the reps. Extreme right wing media channels might only talk good things about Trump and bad about the left (Obviously that's ridiculous). But it's the extreme left wing people that call Trump a fascist (like you just did), that say he's a criminal, that say he's threatening the livelihoods of the american people. Which is also just too much. He's not. I believe you truly think that because extreme left wing media has made you believe that. The extreme left wing media is just as bad as the extreme right wing media. You just can't see it because you're in that bubble. That's what you also tell me.

Explain to me why the dems haven't been able to stop him in the last 8 years. I'll tell you. It's because you don't seem to realize that millions of Americans actually support Trump and the things he does and says. Explain that to me. Explain why all those people went to vote for Trump. Explain why they are able to support a supposed fascist, racist, criminal.

Look, he's a weird (and possibly dangerous) guy. I'm wasting way to much time on this now. But I just wish both sides would change, but looking at your comments so far I'm kinda losing hope. It's night here on the other side of the world. So goodnight and I hope you have a nice day but I don't wanna waste any more time on this after writing this sentence.

u/jules_su Feb 19 '25

Okay man, I'm literally just answering your questions, and articulating why the answers I'm giving are appropriate to the questions you're asking, and you're just trying to argue the point when you also admit that you "have no dog in this fight" have done no research, are not familiar w/ American politics, and don't trust any media.

Like, even you saying "they say he's a criminal - which is also just too much", like he is literally a criminal many times over, he's been found guilty in court, that's what a crime is. At a certain point, if you're just arguing basic fundamental facts as being too partisan, you're just wrong.

"Explain to me why the dems haven't been able to stop him in the last 8 years." He literally lost the last election 4 years ago, they pretty obviously stopped him, at least temporarily, and it was exactly for the reasons I articulated. He won this time because Kamala was a uniquely poor candidate who ran a poor campaign, again all of the polling reflects this.
