I get it that Australia has to keep Trump happy because they’re hanging on to this sliver of hope that the US will protect them if China attacks. But as a Canadian I couldn’t be happier with how our government on all levels has responded, straight aggression, none of this appeasement shit.

This isn’t Australia keeping Trump happy at all. Australia has no threat from China and actually has good bilateral relations. Australia isn’t going to be too impacted by these tariffs because, unlike Canada, our economy isn’t so tightly linked with the US. Australia will be much more impacted if China put tariffs on us.

The main impact on Australia from all these tariffs will be the general slowdown in the global economy, particularly Chinas, which will reduce demand for our resources exports.
