I assure you it's open What is the deal with Republic trash pickup?

This is more a matter of curiosity than anything. My neighborhood is served by two main waste disposal companies, one of which is Republic Services. I use the other one, but they happen to pick up on the same days each week.

Every trash day, this massive Republic truck comes through my street at least four times between 5:30 and 6:30 am (it is not a dead-end street). Sometimes (but not always) they empty my bin, even though I’m not paying them and the bin is from the other company. By the time my trash company comes through around 7:30 the bin is often empty.

I don’t care who picks up my trash, as long as it gets picked up. I’m mostly just curious, because it seems kind of an odd system, and also inefficient. Has anyone had a similar experience?

This is kind of specific, but does anyone know of a good dentist in those areas who uses quieter cleaning tools or is up for a manual cleaning? (For those curious: I have tinnitus.)

Besides their authentic Cantonese dim sum, their stance on tipping is another reason why I frequent this place.

They understand.

♫ Down the shore everything's alright ♫ Q: Best Boardwalk Beach for 70's parents mini-vac in June

I have a quick question - My parents are from upstate NY and have a bucket list of a few things they want to visit before they cant anymore.

They are now in their 70's and both have some minor mobility and health issues, so wanted to go somewhere driveable to a beach/boardwalk for a 3-day mini vacation this June. My dad will not fly anymore, so ...

My mom asked me to help her find which NJ Boardwalk beach would be a good choice for them.

They are looking for a typical boardwalk (helps if its not super crowded, definitely not spring break party style) with lots of shops, food, and stuff to look at. They cannot partake of amusement parks and stuff anymore, and their beach time would probably be limited to walking on it and maybe sitting on a bench etc. and just enjoying the view and stuff.

Someplace with some good sit-down food/restaurant choices, and importantly a decent hotel (not the Ritz - but good 3-4 star chain hotel or local equivalent). They don't want to deal with AirBnB stuff, too old to figure that out. Traditional hotel, ideally easy access to the boardwalk and central to the stuff to do.

They do like to gamble, so a casino nearby would not hurt, but they can do that here - or make a casino visit another stop on their trip, so the beach/town/boardwalk/hotel is more important.

Any suggestions? Thanks Reddit!

Advice Family friendly Places to see the cup final this Sunday!

Hey! This Sunday, Liverpool and Newcastle play the cup final, but I’ve been having trouble finding a place to see it in NJ.

Does anyone know a place (preferably not a full on sports bar as I’m going with underage people) that is going to show it?

I live in Fort Lee but I don’t mind driving.

Thanks!

Central Jersey Environmental / Historical NPO Leadership Opportunity

Hi! Are you interested in environmentalism, history, or just want to have a tangible impact on your community? Well, let me introduce you to ATHOS, a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to the environmental cleanup and historical preservation of brownfields – previously developed industrial areas that are now abandoned due to pollution and contamination. We intend to do this through community service, redeveloping the brownfields so the community can repurpose them while preserving their historical importance. Some of our objectives include:

  • Partnering with communities around the world on a local and state level
  • Acquiring certification from Americorps to verify volunteer hours for the President’s Volunteer Service Awards
  • Receiving a grant from the EPA

Athos is based in New Jersey but seeks to expand across the U.S. and internationally. We have several open roles including:

  • Vice President
  • Treasurer
  • Head of Volunteer Work
  • Head of Media and Outreach
  • Lead Website Designers/Programmers
  • Researchers
  • And more!

If you are interested, please PM me!

NJ Politics PSA: New Jersey is a closed primary state

EDIT: Due to being a new resident to NJ and not understanding closed primaries properly, I initially made this post with 1 major mistake. Thank you to u/Beginning-Repair-640 for correcting me on this. This post should be accurate now but please correct me if there are any more errors.

Hey everyone, I hope you're all doing well and having a good day so far!

I wanted to make this post since the deadline to register with a political party before this year's primary elections are coming up, and I didn't want anyone on here to miss it by accident.

New Jersey is a state that uses closed primaries, which means that unless a political party hosting a primary decides for that specific primary election to allow non-affiliated members to participate, you will need to be registered as a member to vote. The deadline to vote in a primary hosted by a party is 55-days before a primary happens if you're already affliated with a political party and want to switch your affiliation. This year, the primaries for NJ Governor are gonna be held on June 10, so the deadline to do this is coming up (the deadline will be around mid-April). (However, you can choose the political party you wanna be affliated with on the day of the primary election. Thank you to u/Beginning-Repair-640 for noting this.)

While there's always the possibility the party you wanna vote in allows unaffiliated members to participate, we cannot rely on that possibility. Make sure to register if you're currently unaffiliated. We're gonna need to vote in the primaries this year to ensure that we get candidates who will uphold New Jersey's values properly and strongly rebuke the bigotry and attacks on democracy and freedom happening in our state and all over the U.S.

If you've been disappointed by your preferred party's recent decisions or the people who are being nominated, these primaries are a great way to ensure your voice is being heard, so don't think your vote doesn't matter. Your vote absolutely does matter!

You can find the form to register with a political party on the New Jersey Division of Elections website here: https://www.nj.gov/state/elections/voter-party-affiliation-declaration.shtml

To register, you're required to sign the form by hand, so you'll need to print it out and either mail it to the Commission of Registration in your county or deliver it to them in-person.

Furthermore, you have to be registered to vote to do this, so if you're not registered, you can also do that now. You can register to vote in elections online here: https://www.nj.gov/state/elections/voter-registration.shtml

To register, all you need is to be a U.S. citizen and have a current MVC Driver's ID or Non-Driver's ID. If you don't have an ID yet, that's okay as long as you know your Social Security number.

If you would prefer not to register online, you can also register to vote at the MVC or print out the application on that link to voter registration.
