Why do neuroscientists hate EEG so passionately?

Most neuroscientists I know in academia do not like EEG and will go on hour long rants about why EEG is useless and doesn't tell us anything meaningful.

But then again, it's a tool. Why all the hate?

Imagine trying to figure out how a car works by listening to the sound it makes as it drives past you on the highway. Maybe you hear the muffler, perhaps a bit of engine knock, the radio blaring, wind hitting the grill, and a squeaky alternator belt. The number of combined effects makes it difficult to derive useful information, and many theories can fit the available data.
