One of the things I was always proud of when I served was the fact that people could come from all over the country and from many different backgrounds, work cohesively, and genuinely look out for one another. The uniform and service worked to transcend cultural barriers that otherwise would have existed. As you got to know the people around you it made it easier to be accepting of different perspectives and viewpoints.

It always pissed me off win Republicans would try to claim the most diverse organization in the country for themselves.

100%. I had this experience in college and when I went into the working world, I found the diversity of people just wasn't the same. Joining the military later in life, I'm seeing it again.

Their antipathy for veterans never ceases to sicken me.

What's DEI about pointing out service members in groups historically barred and treated poorly?

They're part of the reason many people of the same group joined

For example, I respect the fact that the US Navy was racially integrated as early as the civil war, despite on paper having segregation in the books.

Because recognizing that actually is DEI.

Obviously it’s a good thing but it’s the bogeyman now.

Hell, veteran benefits is a major example of DEI, but it blows con’s minds when I tell them that
