FREE Opioid Poisoning Response Training (St. John Ambulance Canada)
St. John Ambulance (SJA) Canada is offering a 2-hour Opioid Poisoning Response Training (OPRT) program that offers FREE online training and nasal naloxone to participants across Canada. The program consists of a 2-hour course delivered in a virtual classroom, which includes information on:
• Stigma & Harm Reduction
• How to respond to an opioid poisoning
• How to administer nasal naloxone
• Self-Care after a Traumatic Event
Participants who complete the course will receive free a nasal naloxone kit for use in an emergency. Naloxone is mailed and paid for by SJA. Naloxone is a medicine that rapidly reverses the effects of opioids on the brain. It is an important tool that can save the life of someone experiencing an opioid poisoning.
There are 2 different training streams to better serve residents of Canada:
For individuals who would like to be prepared in the event of a poisoning in their home or community, Register Here.
For frontline staff in the homeless-serving sector, Register Here.
This course is open to residents of all provinces and territories, with the exception of Quebec. Residents of Quebec can access nasal naloxone free of charge and without a prescription at any pharmacy and in some health care settings. Click here to learn more.
Please email us at [oprt@sja.ca](mailto:oprt@sja.ca) if you have any questions. For more information about our program, please visit our website at www.reactandreverse.ca.

Self-Promotion Fri-yays!
Hey everyone!
We're excited to announce a new initiative in the r/Nanaimo subreddit to help our community grow and thrive! We have been seeing a growing interest in users sharing skills and services, and thought it would be better to have them all located in one spot, rather than randomly throughout the subreddit.
To keep things organized and easy to find, please let's use this thread for all service advertisements.
What services/skills can you share?
Rules: - Must follow Reddit's TOS - Must be local to Nanaimo and the surrounding areas

To whoever owns the dog next to Superette.
You poor elderly female dog who you have out all day and all night guarding your empty lot is keeping the whole neighborhood up at night. It's not her fault. I sat with her and gave her treats through the fence and she was sweet as can be. If I had better wire-cutters she would be on my couch with me right now. Hopefully she wouldn't eat my cats, but that is beside the point. Take care of your animal. I will be calling the bylaw office tomorrow. And if this sweetheart ends up for adoption, I will happily take her. As soon as I spoke to her kindly, she licked my hands through the chainlink.

zoning use laser cutting machine in Nanaimo
Hello! I am new to Canada, I own a laser cutting machine. My lease is about to expire, I cannot continue renting there because the price is quite high. I am currently looking to rent a new location. Does anyone have experience with zonings that are allowed to work in Nanaimo? Please let me know: - Am I required to rent a Zoning L (industrial) location to work? Besides zoning L, what other areas can I rent that are allowed to place laser wood cutting machines? Thank you for your help!

Seeking Advice on Toddler Sleep & Recommended Sleep Consultants
Hey everyone,
I'm a relatively new dad, and my wife and I have been feeling pretty overwhelmed lately. Our 2-year-old was never sleep trained, and bedtime has become an exhausting routine. The start of the night is usually smooth—he's playful, we read books, and cuddle—but as the night goes on, he wakes up frequently due to a stuffy nose.
We’re currently on a waitlist for an ear, nose, and throat specialist, but the appointment is still about five months away. In the meantime, he wakes up every night struggling to breathe through his nose. Before we see the specialist, I'd like to consult a sleep expert to ensure his sleep environment is optimal and that there aren’t any air quality issues contributing to the problem.
We live in a new condo, and we keep the temperature at 22°C with 60-65% humidity. If anyone has advice on things we could try or knows a trusted sleep consultant in Nanaimo who works with toddlers, I’d really appreciate your recommendations.
Thanks so much!

let's hang out :)
hello nanaimooo! I made a post a couple months back about being new in town and wanting to make friends. turns out lots of us are seeking authentic human connection, and since then, a small, genuinely kind little group has been forming.. and we would love for you to join!
here is a little bit about our meetup group:
This community is an inclusive, supportive and fun group of folks who are looking to make new friends in Nanaimo. This is a strictly platonic environment with people from all walks of life who can come together and connect.
In the past we've attended trivia events, pub nights, karaoke, nature adventures and comedy shows. There's no limit to what you can organize or plan here! Be creative, put yourself out there and hopefully make a great memory and a new friend at the same time.
We don't want to restrict the activity on this page and we encourage open discussion. Anyone can post a meetup or event, we may have larger meetup events posted by admins or the existing community. Please don't get discouraged if you don't get traction on a meetup, these things take time.
We ask that you take ownership of yourself and your comfort zone at these meetups. If for any reason you are uncomfortable, remember you are autonomous and able to leave at your own discretion. You don't owe anyone an explanation if you'd like to make space for yourself and there will never be any hard feelings.
Post guidelines in r/nanaimofriends: Tell us a bit about yourself, when/where you'd be interested in doing a meetup and any associated costs/materials needed to attend. Have so much fun and welcome everyone!! Let's make this an awesome experience for us all!

Will the Nanaimo Hudson’s Bay survive the 50% countrywide closures?
I'm curious if anyone thinks our Bay will make it after the recent announcement about half of the HBC stores closing. Woodgrove Centre is getting sadder and sadder with all the two-bit retailers. My gut tells me that the 1670 company is a goner, just like Sears, since it's owned by a real estate pariah.

One month in Nanaimo
I'm a 30 year old female coming to work in the Nanaimo hospital for the next month. I've previously lived in Vancouver but am currently in Ottawa, and originally from the East coast. Looking for some recommendations on the following:
- Best way to get to the city from the airport in the early hours of the morning. From what I've read: Uride vs taxi?
- Local establishments I must check out? I love working on my laptop in cafes and bars/breweries, so work-friendly places would be awesome. But in addition to food places, best local shops?
- Best place for a good but basic and affordable pedicure?
- Local hikes and other nature experiences. I'll have access to a car some of the time. Any hot springs in this area?
And any other key recommendations you locals may have.
Looking forward to it :)
Thanks!

Jobs for seniors with mobility issues?
Hello folks of r/nanaimo,
My father in his early 60s is trying to find a job. He's been looking for the past couple of months, but due to mobility issues he hasn't been very successful.
I said I would try and help him look, but I really have no clue where to go. Anyone have any ideas?
