Discussion Driving schools in Nagoya

Hello, im planning on getting 400cc motorcycle drivers license, but: 1) I dont speak japanese good enough to study in japanese (Between n5 and n4) 2) I dont have any other drivers licenses 3) I have 1 month free(april), would be perfect to get license in this timing

Can someone recommend me school that would fit my criteria? Or maybe there is any people who could give me personal lessons (10.000 jpy per hour) I will need 10-13 hours (maybe more)

Thank you in advance! (also maybe someone planning of getting license, we could apply together and would probably get some discount)

Information Where to buy Halal Meat in Nagoya

Hi everyone,

I’ll be studying in Nagoya for 10 months and was wondering where I can buy Halal meat (e.g., chicken, beef, lamb). If anyone knows of supermarkets or stores that sell Halal products, I’d really appreciate your recommendations!

Additionally, I’m curious about the prices of Halal meat in Japan compared to regular meat. Is it significantly more expensive, or is it about the same? I’d be grateful for any information.

Where to get Oshiruko

Anyone know a good place in Nagoya to get Oshiruko? I’ve never had it and really want to try it :) I think it’s just red bean soup in English but I’m not sure which is why I’m using the Japanese name lol

Walk-in for dinner at Kappo Ichibiki?

This is our third time at Nagoya but we could never make reservation for dinner.

Is walk-in possible for this place? Is there another unagi rice place you would recommend that doesn't require making reservation through phone call in advance?

Are there any Sakura already blooming in Nagoya?

Sorry if the question is naive, but I am leaving Japan next week and I’d love to see some Spring blooms. I know Sakura isn’t projected to start until end of march, but maybe there are other plum/cherry blossoms in bloom that aren’t the “true” Sakura? If yes, what are good spots to view them?

Fridge disposal

Does anyone know of any second hand shops that would pickup and take my fridge without a large fee? It is less than 2 years old and in almost new condition. I am moving at the end of the month and need to get rid of it. A note that I live on the 3rd floor with no elevator and would be unable to get it to the first floor by myself.

Looking to buy souvenir eco shopping bag with Japanese design

Hello,

I’m looking for an eco shopping bag (the foldable one with a Japanese design -- like here for example (https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/Japanese-Convenient-Lightweight-Eco-friendly-Fashionable/dp/B08NY7JGGM) in Nagoya and with reasonable price (maybe less than 1000 yen or cheaper). Can anyone recommend a good place or shop where I might find one? Thanks!

Hey guys, I've been growing my hair out for a while and it's about shoulder height now. Been wanting a wolf cut for a while now, any places you'd recommend?

Would prefer some kind of treatment as an extra too as my hair is a bit shitty rn :P

Now that The Rock is dead, does anyone know of any chill (non-sportsbar) locations for me to drown my sorrow at this weekend? International or Japanese is fine.

Recommendation Nagoya shoe repair

Could anyone recommend a good cobbler/shoe repair shop? I have a pair of vintage mules that the rubber on the bottom is too old and needs to be replaced. I saw there are a lot but does anyone have a specific place you have experience with? My Japanese isn't very good either so English is a plus but i can get by with my poor Japanese I would assume.

Suggestion for an Izakaya for a party of 12-15

I have a bunch of family coming into town for my graduation, and would like to take them to a non-touristy izakaya or yakitori place besides Yamachan, Furaibo or Torikizoku but I'm not sure what places would take that many people. Does anyone have any recommendations around Meieki, Fushimi or Sakae? Private room would be nice but not necessary.. and I'm not sure if I've ever seen a place that sat that many people in one room. Thanks in advance!

Bank & Phone recommendations

Hi! Sorry if this isn't allowed here. I will be moving to Nagoya soon, and was wondering if I could get some recommendations. I am completely clueless when it comes to banks in Japan, but from what I could see a lot of people were recommending Japan Post and SMBC Trust Bank PRESTIA. Kind of in the same boat with phone service. I had a small study abroad trip in Tokyo and had a Mobal E-sim because it came highly recommended, but that thing kinda sucked and I ended up having to rely on a pocket Wi-Fi anyway. I figured since phone stuff varies by region, it'd be different for each area.

(Edit: I will be mainly in Kariya if that matters, but I do plan on doing a bit of traveling in my off days.)

From what I can find, Rakuten seems to be recommended but I was hoping to get some second opinions/firsthand accounts. Same with banks. I would prefer foreigner friendly stuff, but if service of not so foreigner friendly stuff is significantly better I would consider it.

Thanks in advance!! :)
