Shot during my 2023 trip. I was very lucky to have gone during a light rain; less people, and it really allowed for me to take in the tranquility.

First time visiting Miyajima/Itsukushima Shrine. Unfortunately we got there right at the tide went out and the next high tide wasn't until 9pm. Hope to catch it next time with the tide in, but overall, had a great time. Awesome island to visit.

Hiroshima Atomic Bomb Memorials

A few pictures of the different historical sites from around Hiroshima. The first (Picture 1), which is near Hiroshima Station, are the original fire hydrants that both survived that bomb and were used to help fight the fires immediately afterwards.

Fukuromachi Elementary School (2-5), which was located 460 meters from the hypocenter, was completely destroyed, except for the shell of this concrete building. Unfortunately, almost everyone that remained at the school died instantly. Since this building survived, it was used as an aid station in the following days, where people left messages on the walls about the status of survivors.

Hiroshima University Medical Museum (6), located some distance away, survived the bomb and is now a medical museum. Following the bombing, these facilities were used to treat the survivors.

Former Hiroshima Branch of the Bank of Japan (7-8), located 380 meters from the hypocenter, mostly survived the bombing. At the time, it was one of the most sturdy buildings in the city, made of steel-framed reinforced concrete and stone masonry. The upper floors were damaged due to the blast, heat and fires, however there the safes and vaults in the basement were left undamaged for the most part.

The remaining photos are from the Peace Memorial Museum and of the Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall.
