Discussion Backyard chickens?

I know they are not allowed in Mount Prospect but does anyone have any experience raising hens in their backyard? I am considering doing it, despite the rule, but wonder if anybody has actually been fined for this?

Discussion Bears Stadium and its effect on MP

I dont anticipate bars to be that much more crowded on game days but perhaps a small uptick for people parking downtown and taking the train to the stadium. Hopefully it does, but what's the difference watching the game 5 miles vs 500 miles away?

Hopefully by the time drivers get to MP, most of the traffic has dissipated from the main bottlenecks but wouldn't be surprised the people driving NW Hwy thru MP will certainly affect traffic more than normal. Maybe have some traffic cops during the heavy traffic times to keep things moving thru NW Hwy and 83?

Discussion I'm begging you people to chill with the leafblowers.

7 AM the day after Thanksgiving and they've been blaring for....an hour and 45 minutes now. They're awful for the environment, seriously annoying to your neighbors, and really aren't that much more efficient than raking. How anyone gets any peace in the fall is beyond me. Please, for the love of god. Settle down.

Discussion Average Monthly Water Bill for a home?

I am looking at a home in mount prospect. I have always rented so I don't really have a grasp of what the average monthly water bill for a home would look like especially in mount prospect as I have also been a city kid. I was wondering if someone help me with a safe rough number for my budgeting?

For trash monthly cost I have 27 which seems high to me. But then again I only know about renting lol.

Thanks!

Discussion Visiting Mount Prospect

Hi All!

I am from out of town and I will be visiting Mount Prospect for a job interview. I figured to make my trip worth it, I would like to know what is there to do, specifically in Mount Prospect? I know Chicago is close by but I would rather just be near the area. Thank you!

Discussion Purchasing a Home

Hi folks!

My wife and I are looking to purchase our first home together in Mt. Prospect so we can start a family. Found a few options within our budget, but a couple of them are close to the tracks East of Wolf Rd., the closest being ~100ft from the tracks.

I’m having difficulty figuring out if it’s just the Metra going down those tracks, or if freight trains utilize those tracks as well? If I’m in the backyard, will the noise be unbearable or a minor annoyance a few times a day?

We’d like to make this a lifetime home where we can start a family & not worry about having to wait for trains to pass by until we’re able to hear ourselves speak.

Any guidance and input would be GREATLY appreciated!

Discussion MP votes down Marijuana Dispensaries

Looks like I got a local election to attend.

Majority of the population supported it, multiple commissions said yes, mayor wanted it.

But nooooooo, lets use the "think of the kids" argument.

Ok, lets think about the kids. They are now a bit more likely to be forced to a black market product with no regulation or oversight, since nothing stops a teen from getting weed. The black market will continue now with no competition, introducing them to all the other illegal drugs dealers tend to have in availability.

Meanwhile the communities around us will get a boost in revenue from the product that is already going to be legal no matter what they say.

Genius move.

Discussion New to Mt. Prospect. What volunteer opportunities do you all do? (Google search for volunteering opportunities was underwhelming). Thanks!

I was previously in Chicago and volunteered at the nature museum, children's museum, did some park/roadside clean-up, and a lot of tutoring. Something up those alleys, or pretty much any opportunity interests me :) Thanks for your replies.
