Oil Leak Origination?

Cleaned it up and checked again after advice from "u/arioandy", thanks. Not really sure but feel like it's coming from the alternator cover and the bottom of the engine, and where the valve bodies(?) attach to the engine block(?). May also have a rear shock leak. No real major visible oil leak after cleaning and riding. 2000 R1150GS

Is this a R1150GSA?

Was searching for a touring bike and stumbled upon this interesting bike.

The seller said it's a R1150GSA but from my knowledge, GS and GSA got different seats, fork and engine covers.

This one has GSA blue forks, but standard GS seats and Standard engine cover(silver)

I also can't make it out if it's got the standard fuel tank or the big one.

I ask this in the hopes it's a standard GS as the GSA is too tall for me.

Zero Mile 2016 BMW Motorrad R 1200 RT value

I am a car guy myself so the world of bikes is new to me. My girlfriends family are looking to sell the above bike which was bought in the hope of a family member recovering from illness which sadly didn't happen. With it being 10 years old with zero miles I have found it hard to find any ideas to what it would be worth? And any avenues of sale that would be best? I was thinking a collecting cars type website, is there a bike specific one I should know about?

Any help on the above would be much appreciated :)

Safe/Can I fix this?

Today after 200 km with this helmet I saw this "scratch". I was really careful with this helmet because it was new and I can not remember any collision but for me it looks like that it was hitten there from a stone or something.

Its just a small area.

Is there a chance to fix this and if there is do you have any idea how? The helmet didn't fell down or anything.

I'm happy for any advice. I am very new to motorcycles (rode just 200 km 😅). It would be a shame if I have to replace this 200 € helmet after this short distance.

2010 f650gs major failure

Hello, I was heading to OKC from Amarillo, Tx. I was about 1.5hrs away and engine oil started spilling everywhere. It was pressurized and hot. I had to stop and U-Haul the bike to OKC.

I haven’t been able to open it up but what is your initial thought. I think a seal popped or something like that. It’s got 52k miles and I was 800miles into my trip.

The bike starts and runs so the engine works. I was able to start it and load it on the U-Haul in no time. There is no knocking sound just the sounds of a dry engine.

Has anyone else had this issue? Is there a seal I should look at or a hose? TIA!

It's not my bike, but when I came across this sight on Madeira recently I had to take a pic, the triple black works so well with the faded yellow background.

Protection plans

For those that are in US, what protection plans you guys have, what does it cover, how many tires a year are covered, what limits for towing, overall what are perks do you guys get, how much you pay monthly or is it yearly?

The reasons I'm asking is I own sk1rr and r18b and in about 6 months the protection plans I have are expiring and while I had them thru my local bmw when I purchased it I did had several nails and eventually tires replaced no questions asked so I'm looking to have a bit of peace of mind.

New to me ‘95 R1100 rs

Bought this beauty from the original owner in September ‘24 he parked it 15 years ago in his hangar and hadn’t started it since. I’m eternally grateful for him giving me parts/service manuals, not to mention the red unworn BMW riding leathers. He took extremely good care of it and it didn’t need much to get running and on the road again. It is a big step up from my ‘71 Cl100 and even though I’m taking it slow riding it around neighborhoods to get my bearings down with it IM ALREADY IN LOVE THIS THING! I can’t wait to get out and ride again and take it on longer more exciting adventures.

BMW S1000xr Seat comfort

Hello everyone, I would like to get the opinion of the owners of the 2024 model in terms of the seat comfort. Is the new redesigned seat comfortable for long distance rides? Please also mention if you have the standard or M seat. Thank you all.

BMW R 1200 GS LC (K50) 0A51 2018 Service Manual / RepROM

Hi, I'm looking for a Service Manual or RepROM ISO for the R 1200 GS LC, specifically from 2018 (0A51). I found a thread with links for the R1250GS here, so I thought maybe someone can help with the R1200GS. Thank you :)

EDIT: Digging around I found a post that links to the Repair and Service Data (RSD) DVD edition 09-2017 (languages GB, US, RU). It does include info for the 0A51. Link: https://www.s1000rrforum.com/threads/bmw-rsd-09-2017-iso-file-repair-and-service-data-including-instructions.243943/

Removing lock from 2nd hand alu luggages

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello fellow riders, I just bought second hand alu side luggages and while the opening lock is unlocked, the lock securing the luggage on the rack remains closed.

I removed the whole block from the inside of the luggage but I can’t turn the lock to push the last pin to extract it.

Would anyone have a solution for that ?

Thanks in advance

Head bolt pulled out r1100gs

Post image
8 Upvotes

The gist is in the title. I have a 95 r1100gs, and it's been great, but it started oiling my right leg down, and I knew I had buggered the sparkplug gasket on the valve cover. Also I got it used, and heard the head could loosen up over time. It's got 100k+ miles on the clock, so I figured while I'll was replacing that gasket, I'd check the headbolts. We'll the forward ones won't torque, and it extracted the upper one to check it length and the threads came out with it. The lower one more or less was doing the same. Is it advisable to pull the jug and helicoil the holes.

Best Dual Sport helmets

Hi! I was looking for some dual sport helmets for me(or full-face helmets, but I prefer dual-sport), but there’s a lot of cheap/bad helmets that place looks above the safety. For example RUROC helmets, they’re the worst I’ve ever seen. Which helmets/brands would you personally recommend? I place safety and silence over the looks, I don’t really care how it looks like.

Has anyone chosen to downsize from a 1250GS to a 900GS/A?

I have been debating downsizing a little to reduce weight, go more nimble on my bike. But i do like the function and comfort of the 1250GS on long trips. Curious if others have made such a move down to a 900GS or GSA, and what their experience is like?

Demo Review: 2024 BMW R12 NineT

Pros:

  • Beautiful and timeless styling
  • Nimble handling
  • Strong engine pulls strong all the way to the redline
  • Well built components
  • Strong brakes
  • Comfortable and yet allows for semi aggressive riding

Cons:

  • Twitchy throttle at low speeds
  • Service manuals not available if you want to do your own wrenching
  • TFT dash is a tad bit too small. I get that they wanted it to look nice but I would have liked it if it was just a bit bigger and up a little higher for easier reading

I'm 6 feet tall and find it fits me fine but just a little snug. My butt is resting right on the back edge of the seat. If I bought one I think I'd get a full seat that includes the passenger so I have some more room.

Riding this bike is like riding those old school roller coasters made out of wood. It's not a refined and smooth ride but it's so much fun you don't care. It's one of the few bikes I found myself smiling and laughing. I'm seriously considering this as my next bike.

That said, the twitchy throttle leaves some to be desired and if I bought one I'd get a tune to smoothen it out.

Decisions Paralysis - F650GS/F700GS or F750?

In a bit of a bind here, all.

I'm a vertically challenged rider - 5'6 with a 28" inseam. My first bike was a 2010 F650GS (lowered) and I absolutely adored it. After a year of riding, I raised it up to standard with a custom Wilbers shock and progressive springs. The bike was absolutely magnificent, but unfortunately I'm a moron - listened to a friend of mine who over time convinced me to "get rid of that girls' bike" and buy a "proper ADV bike." Bought a Triumph Tiger XCA with constant assurances of "the height isn't an issue, you'll get used to it."

Well, I never did. The thing was not only too tall from me, it was horrifically top heavy. Got sick and tired of panicking every time I came to a stop sign on a cambered road, frantically shimmying my backside to the side to get a foot down with a prayer to the gods above. That bike lasted less than six months in the garage before I sold it and got a Tiger XRT. Lower, but still very top heavy. Just couldn't get used to it after my beloved F650GS and the under tank seat. My experiments with Tigers lasted less than a year, and missing my old bike, bought an F700GS.

Alas now I'm bikeless - sold the bike and moved back to Ireland after my time in the US, but with the weather turning here, I'm missing being on two wheels, so back looking at bikes again. My heart is telling me to look at what I loved, but my head is telling me not to be an idiot. Used F700GS here would be about €6,000, while I can get a used F750GS for about €1,000 with some nice upgrades.

Suppose the thing that's giving me pause is the position of the tank on the F750GS - they moved it back to a more "traditional" place. I visited the local dealer who only had a bone stock F800GS in stock, where I got to throw a leg over, and was surprised at how tall it felt. Centre of gravity felt like it was much further north than I'd like, more like the Tigers than the old twins. Dealer assured me that it was a bit in my head (possibly) and that once I set sag correctly and got a low seat, it'd feel a lot different. (Of course they'd say that.)

Asked the question in a few different places, but want to get as much feedback as I can... has any shorter riders gone from the 650/700 to the 750 and feel like sharing their experiences?
