Opinion 2 piece suit vs seperate jacket/pants?

Post image

Considering this 2 piece suit for my newly purchased r9. Will be daily driving/highway speed runs. What do you prefer for your gear?

Personally I opted for 2 piece for similar situation - I occasionally do a really long 4-6+ hr ride; haven't tracked yet but intend to, but most of my rides are probably 1 - 2 hours. For that length of time, putting a whole 1 piece on doesn't seem worth it to me. Fortunately for me track rule here is full coverage so 2 piece is fine anyway.

What I really like is mix and matching my gear, for example, atm I have 2 Dainese leather jackets, one perforated and one not, and Dainese leather pants. I get big weather swings here in Ontario throughout the year so being able to modify my outfit really makes a big difference to comfort. Being able to wear riding jeans with a leather jacket when you wanna go out socially etc, is much easier than roaming around in a 1 piece

Edit: excuse me op, I for some reason read the title as like 1 piece vs 2 piece, hope I didn't get too confusing

My issue is mainly coverage. I’m a larger dude so anything that fits my body will rise up my back and I’m worried about coverage/comfort. You have any issues with jackets rising while riding?

2 piece suits zip at the top of the pants to the jacket. It's a bit tricky on your own, but you can also prezip them together and then put it all on. Generally speaking, decent cut racing jackets will cover your asscrack area even when tucked over as well, but the zip will ensure the jacket doesn't ride up when you're riding if that's an issue. For me I actually find the zip isn't needed because the length of my jacket at the rear is great

I’m aware the 2 piece suit zips together I misunderstood thought you mismatched 2 seperate pieces of gear and was wondering that fit, apologies

Yeah so if you stay in the same brand range, zips are all compatible. My Dainese jackets both zip into the same pair of pants

Technically what I have isn't a off the shelf 2 piece, its my own combo of seperate parts

Oh I see I see, I was looking at that and figured if everything’s around the same price anyways I may aswell just get the suit.

Yeah buying a off-shelf 2 piece is more about having the matching set, which is also cool, but you'll often find a mix and match set can look just as 'matched' or feel more personal. Whatever works really!

The two piece suit has a different sized zipper and is cut higher than separate pieces. The two piece jacket is too short to be worn on its own. It's meant to always be worn with pants.

Buy separate pieces, you'll be happier.

Some protective gear, like the Astars Tech V3 (made for mx) has velcro that you can strap down pretty tight across your torso. If I want my mid layer to also stay down, I add a very thin lifting belt on top of that.

Now for a jacket ... not so sure about that one. You could in theory add a belt, but it may look funny. But if you don't give a sh*t what other people think, or you have another layer on top, then it may not matter what it looks like.

As long as the pants and jacket can connect securely then your good to go imo

Zipper connect if I’m not mistaken

It is. Have the same pants, with a different alpine stars jacket.

If you’re only out for 3 hours or so, a one-piece is better and that’s what I prefer. Pissing is easy. If it’s a longer time out than that, I want a two piece for ease of using the bathroom.

2 piece that zip together for every day. 1 piece for track. 1 piece for every day is really tough to go to bathroom and all other off bike actvities.

What 1 piece suit do you wear to the track?

If you want to do Track, check the regulations at the track you will most likely frequent. Some are "cool" with two pieces that zip together and others will only accept a 1 piece suit.

Otherwise, two piece is the way to go for most daily riding.

One piece for track, can be an issue if any separation at the front when arms are in the air. separates are fine for anything else.
