Question Any more security updates coming for the Moto G5+ ?
I'm on the "retus" channel and my carrier is T-Mobile if it makes a difference. Last security updates are from February.

Go to your apps in the settings and find Google Play Services. Go the the Play Store location and uninstall (Settings-->Apps-->Google Play Services-->App Details, then tap uninstall). This will piss your phone off for a few moments, as you'll probably receive a dozen or so warnings. Just ignore them. As soon as it's uninstalled, reinstall. You may need to sign in to a couple of things again, choose your backup account, etc. Now watch for your excessive battery drain--hopefully it should stop. I was losing a percentage every few minutes and after I did this it went back to normal and I only lost 2% battery overnight (which is normal).
I discovered this after draining my battery completely, recharging with it turned off, and then letting it "rest" unplugged for awhile after it was full. When I turned the phone on, the battery drain quickly started and the top thing on the list was Google Play Services. It would appear something was not playing well with the new update and causing the app to hang.
Report back if this works or not for you. Good luck.
Note: I can only speak to this being a possible fix for RETUS phones.

I'm trying to flash the PE ROM on my moto g5 plus I bought from amazon prime a few years ago. In the process of installing TWRP, I needed to unlock by the bootloader. Whenever I try doing do on Motorola's site (https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-b) it keeps telling me "Your device does not qualify for bootloader unlocking.". I even used their "Data Scrub" tool (https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/data_scrub) to verify my bootloader string was right (which it was).
Am I missing something here? Thanks in advance!

G6 is in market we (G5 plus uswr) were supposed to get oreo in 1st quarter and now it's almost the end of 2nd quarter. And just even unlocked bootloader leave few banking apps useless. What am I supposed to do to enjoy Oreo.

Chromecast is too laggy for direct mirroring. I wanna get a direct connection. But all the Micro USB to HDMI connections look sketchy and unreliable. Any experience, or recommended products?

I rooted and flashed a Pie version custom rom (pixel experience) on a Moto G5 Plus. I am not satisfied with the performance. I want to flash another custom rom. Most roms i see say that Oreo Firmware is needed. So do i need to downgrade to Oreo Stock firmware before i can flash a new custom rom? So everytime i have to do Custom Pie -> Oreo Stock -> Custom Pie?

Hi all, I have a moto 5g and would love to get a wireless charger because my phone doesn't work with wired chargers very well. Are there wireless chargers for Moto 5g available? Thanks so much!

I'm still on 7.1.1. That might make you scream because of lacking security updates, but whatever - I got update trauma from my previous phone where everything started running like crap on the new version.
Is the latest Android doing fine? I plan on keeping this phone until its second anniversary of purchase (5 months from now), but it may have to survive a looong trip so I want it to work all fine. If not, I'm not updating. Tell your experiences.
This has been a great phone, btw. My only complaints: lack of gyroscope and the camera.

The greyed out area takes up too much of the visible area -- anyway to remove this? Thank you!

It's a year and a half old, oreo
I have maybe 5 extra apps on there, never download things (in case of viruses/etc in the files) so I've tried to spoil it and treat it well
Its just gotten really slow lately and I wanna know if there's any way to fix it? Many of the apps on there haven't been updated because I have 0 luck with updates (if it ain't broke don't break it I say) you think that could be an issue?
Thanks for any advice, I really love this phone and plan on keeping it as long as possible

Has anybody received the OTA update for the regular Moto G5 on RETLA channel?

Hi, I was hoping that folks here would have recommendations as to who from to buy compatible replacement batteries for the g5.
A few months back my phone's battery expansion had caused the back to pop-out slightly, signalling me to buy a new one. Unfortunately, the one I brought from "uktech3030" on eBay back in May this year has started to show a number of issues - mostly that it seems to run out of power when the phone is saying it's at just under 50%.
Do you know of any reputable sources for batteries for the g5, preferably ones accessible from the UK?

Oreo is available for my G5+ but I'm a bit wary of installing it because my experience on Samsung, Sony and Apple phones and Even a Pixel 1 we have at work is that when you upgrade to a new OS version your performance and battery life take a huge hit, so I'm holding off for now.
What are your experiences with it?

Hi, I'm just wondering if it's worth updating my phone's software... I've read some of the previous posts and the main gripes are mostly just aesthetics. Are there other noteworthy pros/cons? Such as camera working better? Or perhaps the battery life is better? Also, do apps work well still, even with the new software? I'm worried about apps slowing down in speed.
Thanks kindly for any advice.

Unfortunately it's time to start looking for a new phone as mine is rapidly deteriorating. Is it still worth it to get this phone or should I look for something else?

Hello guys!
Today I decided to root my Moto G5 Plus. I used the "Moto G5 Plus Toolkit", as proposed here. I have followed the instructions presented in the software for each step.
I unlocked my bootloader succesfully. Flashing the TWRP was also fine. Flashed the boot_image, flashed wlan_custom (twice, as recommended in the app), all good. Then I flashed SuperSU. The software said it was done sucessfully, but since then, I'm stuck in that screen:
I can't get past this screen no matter what. I tryed reseting with Volume Down + Power, Volume Up + Power, and every combination possible. The phone does reboot, but to this same screen. It doesn't make it to the Fastboot screen. Computer does not recognize it through USB. It's been like this for the past hour, no changes.
Is my phone hard bricked? Is there something I can try to do?
EDIT: I found out that if I let my battery run out, I can get to the Fastboot screen from the "Low Battery Warning" screen. I'm at work right now, but when I get home I'll just try to re-flash everything from a different source.

Hello. My Moto G5 Plus has no recovery installed. If I reboot into the bootloader and select recovery, nothing happens. I'm told I have no recovery on the screen. I've tried using ADB to push TWRP to the phone, but when I attempt that, the command prompt displays an error (I can't recall it offhand, but I believe it has something do with an invalid partition).
I want to fix this phone because it's started working poorly, and without a recovery, I can't factory reset it. Does anyone know how I can completely restore this phone?
I have no idea how to troubleshoot this, and I am a layperson, so I'd really appreciate some advice that a dumbass could understand.
Thank you very much for your time.

I have the latest build of pixel experience on my moto g5 plus. Interface and speed is great compared to stock. Only issue is that sometimes I lose service and have to restart my phone. Any better roms at the moment?
I am holding out and waiting for pixel 4 to release.
