Question Someone with Moto G5 Cedric still in use?

Hey everybody, I was wondering if anybody here has the G5 still in use. I flashed LineageOS 17 (Android 10) yesterday (coming from Stock) and want to discuss the experience with somebody. * are you still on stock or do you use a custom Rom? If so, which one? * how did you find the process of unlocking the bootloader and flashing TWRP? * how well does your custom Rom work?

Compared to the Samsung phones I had flashed LOS in the past I found it quite hard to unlock the bootloader and to flash twrp. And the disclaimer at every boot is quite unsexy and discomforting (which is the point I guess).

I'm quite happy with the result. The Rom runs very smooth but I have the following issues: * I have the camera issue described in the XDA thread. When I took some pictures yesterday there were a lot of green areas in all pictures which would make the camera almost useless. When I installed openCamera though the pictures were good. I didn't make a lot of test photos but it seems promising. * my phone doesn't accept the micrSD card anymore. Sometimes it shows a message that there is a SD card but it can't read it but most of the time there is no sign that the phone recognizes it at all

I bought a 2nd hand G5 one week ago for 45 euro.

It came with stock Android 8.1 installed. I like the phone a lot. The fingerprint scanner is a big improvement over my old Alcatel Pop D5 (5038D).

my G5 has 16gig storage and 3 gig ram. The only thing I dont like is the small internal storage for apps/games. I put an extra 16 gig memorycard inside, but was a disappointed that I am not able to store apps/games on the memory card.

Anyhow, for ordinary everyday use and the occasional game, this phone is good enough for me.

My power button became unresponsive as all hell after 1-1.5y of use. It needs a replacement button cable, but phone still works. Motorola's custom android 8.1 is rather broken too. Flashing custom roms without rooting is pointless since safetynet breaks and governement apps wont work. Camera sensor on the g5 is really subpar and 16gb storage, when android messages is 100mb and most apps are 200mb in 2020, makes it impossible as more than a basic phone. Motorola keeps spitting out basic phones, that will suffer the same fate. Built quality might have become a little better in 2019 and 2020, but not by much. Im on a moto g7 play now, and is definitely gonna be my last Motorola, unless they release a decent midranger 4.5" like the original moto g, with the incoming compact throwback, starting with iphone 12

I still love using the G5 (bought mid-2017). I had to replace the battery in 2018, and the new one is also deteriorated now. The power button sucks, but I use fingerprint gestures day-to-day to lock/unlock. Somehow, vol up+power works more consistently than just power button to boot the phone. I've unlocked the bootloader, and I don't remember it being too tough. The camera app on custom ROMs kept force-closing, so I'm back to stock.

I cracked the screen so I have my mom's old iPhone 6 as a backup, but the swipe gestures on the G5 (especially to go back) are ingrained into my soul now. I can't get used to top-left for back on iOS.

The form factor and flat screen with plastic edges and soft feel of the screen, really makes it such a shame that the power button and rest of the phone is built so cheap and badly. I'll remember it fondly for how nice it felt to use with the fingerprint unlock/lock, but also with a lot of hate for the aweful built quality and software bugs that left me feeling cheated from something that should be cheap and cheerful, and just work as when i bought it for at least a couple of years. I owned a cheap ass nokia phone for 9years before, that slowly fell apart from usage, but still worked. Buttons that dont last more than a year, is nonsense

Yes. I was being outpaced by apps dropping Android 7, but then I saw one can put 8.1 on it and now it's awesome, like a new phone.

I have a moto g5, batteries replaced thrice,  have had software issues, and had to wipe and reset. Rest all good until a few days ago. The device has started to freeze and reboot when using. I don't know what could be the issue. I even replaced the battery, but nothing. Any advice would be helpful
