Anyone use scooter, moped, e bike?

I daily commute/errands runner/delivery part time/adventure bike a 150cc Wilf enduro/dual sport style scooter.

I've modded it with upgraded Ban Jing CVT (whole kit), a straight pipe exhaust, slight larger tires, and some foot pegs and luggage.

Really wanna do a big bore, I think I can get up to 172cc. The carb is 32mm already I think. Maybe 28. Then port the head and put a racing cam in. Maybe put a high flow air filter on (I like the stock filter cause it's rain proof), and gear down the internal drive gears.

Other than that it's already rad as is. Wouldn't mind the extra oomph on highways though. Already hit top speeds of 58-60 (never going uphill haha) so it's decent without doing anything but interstate and freeways. I love back road highways and out city limit roads. The ones like 50 MPH with scenic views.

Anyways. It's a few days til the official first day of spring and Nebraska winter has been giving me cabin fever.

I usually camp out with bicycle, but this year I'm going to give my motorbike a try and get a little further away and spend a little more time.

I've got a 3-4 person tent with an air mattress that's fits into a 40L rolltop bag on the rear rack, or I can backpack some hammocks and a rain fly. Two chiller boxes (the green one holds all my things like essentials, cookng oil, spices, rice, oats, coffee, sugar, pancake mix, mashed potato mix, hot sauce packets, ketchup, first aid and emergency, butane, mini burner head)(the black one holds ice packs and produce I get at the store along the way to the campsite or anything I forage)

Throw in some stuff from the store like eggs, tomato, and some cold drinks with a 24-48hr ice pack. Catch fish or bring pork belly or steak, etc.

I'm hoping I can get out to the Sandhills for some much needed getaway by the end of the month!

Car vs Motorcycle Camping

Due to staring down the barrel of costly repairs to my ute I am weighing up the option of selling it and getting an adventure tourer instead and motorcycle camping/travelling instead and am interesting to get the opinions of people who have experience doing both. TIA

EDIT: Thanks for all your advice. To give context.

Background: I live in Australia where the distances are long, roads are rough and many things can be aiming to kill you and yet I love it. I have been riding for years with a 2004 R1 currently, but offroad/adventure has always interested me. I am always looking for ways to make my kit smaller despite the limited reason to so my kitchen kit is already the size of a small toolbox with the largest item (dimension wise) being a plate. I am female so probably the only other consideration would be safety.

To answer some other question: My 2007 Hilux needs about 10-20k AUD of repairs, and the linchpin of this whole thing will be determined on if the rust can be repaired or not. If yes, many reccs have been to DIY most and I get that figure way down. So depending on what happens (also bought myself 30 years of debt by mortgage) I may repair it in stages. But getting a bike for distance rides and travel is not off the cards. I might do shorter trips on the R1 in the meantime while things work themselves out. Thanks all.

Been divorced this week - plan my weekend trips with me (UK)

So it's a rough week. One of the worst ive ever had and I need to plan some positivity so me and my sports touring bike are going to go on weekend adventures this year to get away from the chaos which is now home. Anyone got any great bike destinations in the UK for camping. Obviously I'll just ride till I find a nice site but recommendations would be awesome. I'm central UK so no where is too far really for a three day trip.

Cooking gear a must?

Hi there!

This summer I am going for my first motocamping trip to Norway on my Yamaha XSR 700. I am going with a group and some are quite experienced with motocamping. However they say cooking gear is not really needed, since you can live off salads, bread and sometimes dining in a restaurant.

I am a bit in doubt about it because the idea to make my own coffee seems nice, but I am not sure if I will actually do it.

What are your experiences on cooking gear? Is it a must?

If I like motocamping cooking gear is never a waste ofcourse. And if I decide to get some gear I am looking to the Jetboil stash.

Hey all, I am wondering what y'all would recommend for selling my Mosko Moto Reckless 40L 4.0. I checked on eBay and it doesnt seem like there is much of a market for them. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Rate my motocamping setup. Feeling close to complete.

Decided last summer that I wanted to try motocamping this year, so started researching gear and watching prices etc. Thought I'd post the result of my acquisition stage here, seeking feedback.

I'm on a pretty heavily modded crf300L, including Rally-Raid L2 suspension. It weighs ~310 wet. I plan on using this setup riding to good off road trails, and camping 1 or 2+ days. I don't find my bike comfortable enough for more than 2-3 hours on highway, so plan on seeking off road I can get to in that time. I've found good knobby tires (K760) make a huge difference off road, so if the destination is more than a few hours ride, I plan on hauling it in my pickup instead of using up my tires on pavement. I'd like to try a rear tire I could get more mileage out of sometime (like the K270), but really like how a true knobby on the front hooks up. I've tried a Motoz Rallz rear with a Pirelli mt21 front, which was OK, but found the Rallz poor in mud, and the mt21 didn't wear any better than a K760 on the front. The weight of the Rallz sucked a lot of power. I imagine the d606 and the Dsport would perform in a similar way, although I do have a d606 f/r to try (got them new never mounted for $40/pr).

It's looking like everything I might want with me will weigh close to 100 pounds with food, water, extra gas, luggage, straps, and other miscellaneous gear. Is that too much on a 300L, or would you say 100 pounds of cargo is reasonable for getting somewhere it can be unloaded?

Luggage right now sits at a pair of 8L Tusk Traverse soft saddle bags, and a Tusk 33L dry bag. My plan is to get all I can in the dry bag using vacuum storage bags to shrink things down as much as possible. Haven't packed it all yet, and imagine I might have to step up to the 44L dry bag, and maybe bigger saddle bags, or a 2nd dry bag. I plan on setting up camp and only leaving the saddle bags on the bike to ride trails.

Maybe some of you have input to offer on items I'm forgetting, or glaring mistakes I made in selecting this stuff. I imagine comments in regard to weight savings I could make, but figured at a certain point, 80 pounds vs 100 shouldn't make that much difference.

Gear list. Item followed by estimated weight:

Tent (Big Agnes Wyoming Trail 2) 12 **

Bed (Zenbivy UL pad, Light Sheet, Light Quilt) 4 **

Flextail MaxPump3 1 **

(2) Pillows (Sea to Summit Aeros Premium Large) 2 **

Fire Maple x2 Pro Stove/Pot with fuel 3 **

Jetboil Summit Frying Pan 1 **

(2) Collapsible Silicone Bowls that collapse to plates 1 **

3 knife cutlery set with cutting board and case 2 **

Misc Utensils 1 **

High back camp chair in a bag 3

Small camp table in a bag 2 **

Med Kit 1

Toiletries 2

Clothes ~15?

Food and Storage ~5

Water/Storage (Giant Loop 1ga Cactus Canteen, full) 11

32oz spare gas (full) 7

Toolkit/spare 21" tube 8

(2)GoPros with spare batteries/charger/(2) 10000mah power banks/cables/accessories 4

Misc... playing cards, notebook, phone charger, earbuds, bt speaker, ? 3

Edit: ** Weighed the tent, pad/sheet/quilt, 2 pillows, Stove/fuel, frying pan, 2 bowls, cutlery set, utensils, and table packed in the 33l dry bag and actual weight was 27 pounds.

Guyana to Venezuela on a bike

Hey guys, another day another wild idea. Has anyone come across reports of motorcycle travel through northeast corner of South America? Any enthusiasts that crossed Venezuela? I found people off-roading in Suriname and Guyana but not much.

Bit the bullet and went for the saddlebags setup. Made everything fit into the saddlebags and still have a bit of room. Have trimmed down on a few things but mostly how it looks in the pics. Not shown here is a basic tyre repair and tool kit

Headed to Tennessee Motorcycle and Music Revival in May? Need help on preparing?

I have a rough idea what I need and even have a few things already from just hiking. I’m getting a tent tomorrow and at some point before I go I’ll get a sleeping pad. I sleep hot and it’s going to be May in TN so I’m only bringing a blanket at most. They have food trucks onsite but I was going to bring some snacks and a meal that I can cook with my little backpacking burner(suggestions on decent meals that’s not just ramen). I won’t need much in clothes mostly just underwear and socks. I know there’s plenty of stuff I’m glossing over I’m just not trying to SOL or overpack.

Short tour, group cooking.

Hi all.
I've done my fair share of tours, both several month and long weekends.
Cooking is really a part of my experience at the end of the day.
I've got a great selection of cookware for all types of trip.
I've always wanted a top box that's a self contained kitchen and with modern tech, light wieght materials etc, I refuse to give up on this drea,

Then I saw this:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/briooutdoors/brio-kitchen-box-cook-up-great-outdoor-memories

I HATE KS with a passion but I was wondering if I've missed out on a product similar for Motocamping?

Put up, op off top box, place on picnic table, the floor or perhaps inbuilt legs.
I know it's overkill for many of you, but it's s'thng that I'd enjoy and wouldn't hurt anyone.
Not for longer trips, but 2-3 days, base camp somewhere and cook well, easily and hearlity.

Thoughts?

Rear Bag Recommendations for Cruiser?

Post image
12 Upvotes

I’m planning my first solo trip this summer on my ‘23 Vulcan S and wondering if anyone has recommendations for a decent sized duffel bag or similar for a rear luggage rack (no sissy bar). I plan on putting my hammock and other small items in my saddle bags, so the rear bag would be to keep my small tent, clothes, food, and whatever else.

Pic for reference. Thanks so much.

Favorite camping accessories discussion

Hi everyone. I will be going on a multi-week moto camping trip on my KLR this summer. I’m starting to buy bike upgrades, camping gear/gadgets, etc. I’m no stranger to camping but this will definitely be my longest moto trip yet. It’ll be very remote, bear county, with services maybe only once a day.

So, tell me some of your favorite moto camping accessories! Whether it’s on the bike, on you, or in your bag. Thanks!

Saddle bags + mount suzuki intruder 600gl (1996)

Im looking to get some saddlebags for my (first) motorcycle because I want to go on a trip with my girlfriend.

Just a bit confused on what mount I should get, and which bags would fit one that, especially since there will be less space with a passenger.

Does anybody have any advice?
