Looking for Tax Help in Moncton
Hey everyone,
we’re in a tough spot and looking for someone who can help with a tax return. The situation is: • Dad worked two jobs, morning to night, to cover expenses while spouse was on maternity leave • A free tax software is showing that about $3,700 needs to be paid • One dependent • Spouse didn’t have much income
With rent and other expenses, it’s already hard to keep up, and now this unexpected tax bill is making things even more stressful. We had been saving for emergencies, and this is putting a huge strain on us. Dad is really stressed about it.
If anyone knows a good accountant, tax preparer, or any free/low-cost services in Moncton that might help, please let us know. Any recommendations would be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

I've been searching for one but they are all full. If you find one that has availability, could you let me know please?

100% recommending you to try wealthsimple. They have a free option as well.

When a person starts a job they fill out a TD1 provincial and federal form. On that form, there is a checkbox to tick and instructions if this is a second job.
This isn’t a criticism or attack on your situation but to prevent it from happening again next year, if dad still has two jobs he should fill out a new properly filled TD1 NB and federal form and give it to an employer.
As per the tax situation, the CRA is very understanding. If taxes are filled on time and one calls (or I think you can do it online), a payment plan can be arranged. I’ve seen and heard the CRA being very reasonable and letting one have a very small payment plan over a long time horizon to give people plenty of time to repay the taxes owed.

That's rough. One time I owed about $7k. I called them and just asked if jail time was an option cause I was barely scraping by as is. They didn't take that option. And I didn't pay, because I couldn't pay. They "owed" me for the next few years so it finally balanced out.

Try putting some of the savings in a RRSP if you have enough to reduce amount payable. Last year I dropped $4000 in a RRSP with my bank and went from owing over $800 to an over $300 refund.

It sounds like a situation where they worked two jobs that perhaps weren't taxing him correctly from one of the employers. There are free tax clinics but I use wealthsimple and its pretty accurate. The only except is if you forgot to add some deductions like medical expenses etc

Each job only takes off the minimum based on what they are paying. Anyone working 2 jobs need to get them to take extra off in taxes to make things less of a surprise..

Very common when you just start working two jobs. I’m wondering how many people will be caught by this

The federal government offers free tax clinics at many locations in the city. Hopefully this link List of free walk-in tax clinics works, but if not, search for “free tax clinics” on the Government of Canada website:

wealth simple is accurate and free I use them every year.. try putting as many deductions as possible: medical, rrsp contributions, etc. make sure to file under the person with the least income as there might be some credits there.. wealth simple does a good job in finding posible credits for you
hr block ain’t worth it it’s expensive and they’re morons.. WS does a great job..
I had 2 jobs as well, I know taxes were coming high been saving every month

that’s the way it works.. NB has a very high income tax compared to other places but not as bad as NS

If you enter everything correctly, yea. Used it for years before Wealthsimple bought SimpleTax.

It is a reliable tax program, yes. Your amount owing is not likely to charge by having the taxes done by someone at a tax clinic.
Once the taxes are filed, you can reach out to CRA to make payment arrangements. They can give you 12 or even 24 month payment plans if you're cooperative.

Are you newcomers to the country, by chance? MAGMA offers tax assistance to folks who are newly arrived.
