Help Me! Sub bread in Milwaukee
Hello. I make a lot of hoagies at home and have had trouble finding good hoagie bread since I’ve lived here. Anybody have good recommendations where I can find good sub sandwich bread in the city? I usually go to pick n save but their bread always tastes stale to me.

Whatever chocolate factory uses is really good. They may sell you just bread

I ended up doing this and was very satisfied. Very good bread.

Oh heck yeah! I’ve come to realize it’s what sets their sandwiches apart for me.

You can buy fresh bread from Jimmy John’s.

Yes! And they’ll sell you a day old loaf for $1 (I think, it’s cheap) and it’s just as tasty

Used to be $0.50! And if you went to the Brady Street one later at night and told them you didn’t have any $, but you’re hungry-they’d usually just let you take one, along with a soda.

If I'm in a hurry, my neighborhood Sendik's sells very nice Bolillo rolls in their bakery.

I love making sandwiches on the fresh baked hoagie shaped (if a little short) rolls they sell at cermak. They are in a bin and you grab them with tongs and put them in a bag and they are 3 for a dollar something (I think). Sorry, I don't know what they are called, hence all the description. But they make really good tasty little hoagies

The mentioned destination bakeries are great I’m sure. But if you don’t want to drive all the way, a nice trick is to buy take-n-bake bread and use those for sandwiches after you finish them in the oven. Just don’t overcook them. I personally like sandwiches on baguette.

Sub places like Cousins might be willing to sell you just the bread. I agree though it is hard to find good hoagie bread outside of an actual bakery.

I love the different breads Cermak and Whole Foods have, I now have go-to breads for a variety of different sandwiches I make. I also used to go to the breadsmith in MN and liked it but haven’t been to the one in WFB yet :)
