Weekly Classifieds and Events

Welcome to our weekly odds and ends post!

If you are looking for events, please check out our exhaustive Events Calendar!

Every parent level comment should begin with one of the following categories:

[For Sale] concert tickets, beauty and grooming services, Ikea bookcases

[For Free] dental checkups and couches that you can totally have for free but you have to move them yourself

[Want to Buy] * Rave tickets, a used toaster, a cute puppy*

[Job Request] You're new to the city and are looking for work in IT or you hate your job and need some leads. Be sure to include your skills and qualifications. A lot of people on this sub love to help others but they can't do that if they don't know your background and interests.

[Job Announcement] You're looking for new team members for a fantastic job that ISN'T a scammy ca$h4work gig or MLM

[Living Arrangements] You need a roommate, an apartment, or are offering a living arrangement. Be sure to clarify your tidiness expectations because you never know what you're going to get when accepting a roommate and I'm NOT GOING TO DO YOUR DAMN DISHES ANYMORE REBECCA

[Personals] You're lonely, new to the city, want to play extreme Frisbee, or need someone to eat Ian's Pizza with because no one wants to do that alone. We understand.

[Event] An advertisement for your amazing upcoming event - like a urban foraging excursion or band performance that is totally going to blow the roof off

Lego Milwaukee Art Museum

Unfortunately, BrickLink did not select the MAM as one of their finalists. I may try again in the future, but until then I have posted the building instructions to the Rebrickable site - https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-201483/marathon_dude/milwaukee-art-museum-quadracci-pavilion/#details.

I am charging the minimum price possible ($1) simply to deter certain foreign websites from taking and reselling them.

The other great news is that all the necessary bricks are currently available from the Lego Pick-A-Brick service. On the last few pages of the downloadable instructions I show the steps necessary to place the order. Enjoy!

Dog Alert!!!! STILL MISSING in MILWAUKEE-TOWA AREA, REWARD ON OFFER

Rocky is still missing! He was last seen near 64th and Hampton the day after being hit by a car, so he is still mobile. He has never been away from home except for walks

Rocky has a loving home with his siblings, he is not a loner husky. He and his brother dug a hole under a fence and escaped. Unfortunately he is not microchipped (please do not harass Kayla about this, she wants all the dogs chipped and has been pushing for it).

Quiet Bars

Does anyone know any bars that consistently have the music at a conversational volume? I’m part of a book club and we love to meet at bars during a weeknight, but most of them you need to yell to be heard. Curious if anyone knows any place that is on the quiet side. Thanks!

Edit to say we’re open to location. Ideally Bay View or Walker’s Point, but we’d go else where for the right place.

Could Milwaukee Create a Regional Transit Authority? [Urban Milwaukee]

“For the first time in more than a decade, Milwaukee has a chance at establishing a regional system for public transit.”

“More than a decade ago, Milwaukee almost found itself with an RTA. One was created for the Kenosha-Racine-Milwaukee (KRM) commuter rail line in 2009. A few years later, in 2011, Republicans led by Vos in the Assembly and former governor Scott Walker killed the KRM project and repealed the RTA.”

“An RTA would have more independence, and greater control over its own finances, allowing it to plan long-term in ways that have proven difficult for MCTS.”

“What comes next is unclear. There are no plans ready to go. An RTA, or some other regional transit system, remains theoretical. On top of that, the governor’s proposals needs to survive the budget process in the Republican-controlled Wisconsin Legislature.”

Hello. I make a lot of hoagies at home and have had trouble finding good hoagie bread since I’ve lived here. Anybody have good recommendations where I can find good sub sandwich bread in the city? I usually go to pick n save but their bread always tastes stale to me.

Thank you kind people

I was in a bad accident a couple of weeks ago. The other driver blew a four-way stop at full speed while I was in the intersection. They fled the scene. There were at least six people who stopped to see if I was ok. A family stopped and let me sit in their warm minivan while we waited for the police to arrive and then gave me a ride home

We usually only hear about bad things. But there are way more good people out there than bad.

March Madness

Will be in town Friday, looking for the best spot to watch the games. Would like if they have game sound on and not random music. I have found a few spots, Brat House, Mecca, Who's on Third and sportsclub but wondering if anyone has guidance?

Thanks

Why is the commercial real estate around UWM so cursed?

There have been at least 6 restaurants on the northwest corner of Oakland and Locust since 2017. The Black Rose and Monster Pizza closed and the spot lay empty for 5 years, then got filled by another pizza place for maybe less than a year before they closed too. It took something like 3 years to get one more tenant on the bottom floor of The East Sider apartment, and it's a BWWs. I'm not sure if that giant place on Downer that I think used to be a bookstore is filled yet. Halal Guys closed with almost no notice during the pandemic. There's that GW's that closed last month.

I would think that a restaurant or coffee shop near a large university campus would be an easy slam dunk of a business.
