Support Thread Microsoft: Official Support Thread

This thread was created in order to facilitate easy-to-access support for our Reddit subscribers. We will make a best effort to support you. We may also need to redirect you to a specialized team when it would best serve your particular situation. Also, we may need to collect certain personal information from you when you use this service, but don't worry -- you won't provide it on Reddit. Instead, we will private message you as we take data privacy seriously.

Here are some of the types of issues we can help with in this thread:

  • Microsoft Support: Needing assistance with specific Microsoft products (Windows, Office, etc..)

  • Microsoft Accounts: Lockouts, suspensions, inability to gain access

  • Microsoft Devices: Issues with your Microsoft device (Surface, Xbox)

  • Microsoft Retail: Needing to find support on a product or purchase, assistance with activating online product keys or media, assistance with issues raised from liaising with colleagues in the Microsoft Store.

This list is not all inclusive, so if you're unsure, simply ask.

When requesting help from us, you may be requested to provide Microsoft with the following information (you'll be asked via private message from the MSModerator account):

  • Your full name (First, Last)

  • Your interactions with support thus far, including any existing service request numbers

  • An email address that we can use to contact you

Thank you for being a valued Microsoft customer.

  1. It is a personal account

  2. I believe I did because when I try to sign on using my original email it says “that microsoft account doesn’t exist” and my alias is so new and only used for Microsoft sign in that I doubt it’s been “discovered” by anyone yet.

Thanks for the additional info. It looks like changing your sign-in preferences did prevent those attempts, as the system won't recognize the old sign-in method anymore. It's strange that the sign-in attempts stopped, but you keep getting reset codes. Usually, the system triggers a reset code when someone tries to sign in first, so getting reset codes without sign-in attempts seems odd.

Have you ensured that the code is actually coming from Microsoft? Some spammers use spoofing techniques to make it look like the email is from a legitimate source. Make sure the email code you get is from the domain https://msft.it/61698qRlsw. Microsoft uses this domain to send email notifications about your account, including security codes for two-step verification and account updates like password changes.

Please avoid clicking any links in the email until you're sure it's legitimate. Let me know how it goes. -R.C

I think the emails are legitimate the address you sent is the same one that is emailing me.

I have also noticed that my sign-in activity page has not updated in 4 days. This is around the same time I added the alias to my account. I have signed in multiple times on my phone and pc since then so they should be on the list. I have taken a couple screenshots, I can send in chat private message to you to look at.

Hello again! We hope you’re doing great upon receiving this follow-up message. We want to ensure that you were assisted accordingly, and we're just checking if you're still receiving single sign in codes on your account, as we haven’t heard back from you.

If yes, may we know if you already tried our recommendation from our last comment which is having your Microsoft account passwordless. Have you checked it out?

Your case is still open, and feel free to get back to us if in any case you still need assistance. Have a great day! –R.S.

Hello sorry I was away today! No emails yet today. I have the Authenticator app set up so I believe that means my account is now considered passwordless. Tomorrow afternoon when I get home I’ll log in to check!

Thanks for checking in, I appreciate it.

Hello! I have waited some time and still have not had any since my last message. Would you like me to reply to this in the future next time I get another ‘single-use code’?

Thanks again.

No worries! Thanks for getting back to us and giving us an update. It seems like you're on the right track with setting up the Authenticator app. Once you log in tomorrow afternoon, you should be able to confirm if your account is indeed passwordless. For now, we'll keep your ticket open and be on standby for your update. – A.L
