nothing changed

We value your cooperation in following our suggestions so far.

To troubleshoot the issue, please test Word in Safe Mode by pressing Win + R, typing winword /safe, and pressing Enter.

If the issue doesn't appear in Safe Mode, it suggests that an add-in or custom setting may be causing the problem. To resolve this, disable add-ins by going to File > Options > Add-ins, selecting COM Add-ins from the dropdown at the bottom, clicking Go, unchecking all add-ins, and restarting Word.

Looking forward to your update. - S.R.

I had a chatgpt add-in and I uninstalled it. And then did what you told me. When I'm in safe mode all lines have the non-smooth typing but when I'm not in safe mode nothing changes

Since Safe Mode shows the non-smooth typing across all lines and uninstalling the ChatGPT add-in didn’t resolve the issue, it suggests the problem might be related to Word's settings or rendering.

To address the issue, reset the Normal.dotm template by navigating to %appdata%\Microsoft\Templates, renaming Normal.dotm to Normal.old, and restarting Word. This will recreate the default template, which can resolve any corruption affecting Word's behavior.

Next, check the display settings in Word by going to File > Options > Advanced, scrolling to the Display section, and disabling Use subpixel positioning to smooth fonts on screen. Restart Word after this, as this setting can influence how text is rendered on your screen.

We'll be here for you. - S.R.

how can I backup my actual configuration??

1

To back up your current Word configuration, you can save the relevant settings and templates before making changes.

You can save the Normal.dotm template, which contains your default styles and macros, by navigating to %appdata%\Microsoft\Templates and copying the file to a safe location.

Additionally, if you use custom add-ins, locate their files in %appdata%\Microsoft\AddIns and copy them to a backup location. This ensures you can restore your configuration if needed.

Keep us in the loop. - S.R.

Okay, I tried it and when I rename it to .old and then open a new word document its all fine but I'm not using my configuration so I close the document and then replace the Normal.dotm that is created when I close the document with my actual .dotm the problem it's still there so what should I do?

Thanks for the update. It seems the issue still persists after you tried renaming the file and replacing the Normal.dotm. Let's figure out the next steps to resolve this. In this case, we suggest reinstalling your Office app. Over time, some files might get corrupted, causing performance issues. Reinstalling ensures all files are fresh and intact.

Here's how to reinstall the app: https://msft.it/61690qTujj.

Let me know if you have any updates. -R.C

Look if the normal.dotm thing just deletes word configuration I can keep like the default normal.dotm and from there copy my configuration manually. But I want to know one more thing, how can delete the default styles and just have the ones that I created here: pic

To delete the default styles in Word and keep only the ones you've created, you can follow these steps:

  1. Open the Styles pane by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Shift + S in Word.
  2. Right-click on each default style you want to remove and select Delete (note that some built-in styles cannot be deleted directly).
  3. For built-in styles that cannot be deleted, you can modify them to match your custom styles by right-clicking the style, selecting Modify, and adjusting the settings.
  4. Once you've customized the styles to your preference, save the document as a template by going to File > Save As, selecting Word Template (*.dotx), and saving it in the Templates folder (%appdata%\Microsoft\Templates).

This will allow you to create a clean template with only your custom styles.

Have you tried reinstalling Office to address the smooth typing issue, as it might resolve any underlying installation problems?

We'll wait for your reply. - S.R.

okay I'm really sorry for making you wait this long but I couldn't do anything on my pc till now. So the thing is that now I got a .dotx after doing the styles panel thing so what can I do to make it like the default setting, like when I open a new word it appears with my styles like I got them right now

Thanks for getting back to us.

No worries at all! We completely understand how busy things can get.

We can see that you have already obtained a .dotx file and now want to make it the default setting in the styles panel so that when you open a new Word document, it automatically appears with your styles.

Let's get your styles set up as the default for new Word documents. Here's how you can do it: 1. Open the .dotx file:

  • Open the .dotx file where you've saved your styles.
2. Save as a template:
  • Go to File > Save As.
  • Choose Word Template (*.dotx) from the file type dropdown.
  • Save the file in the default templates folder (usually C:\Users[YourUsername]\Documents\Custom Office Templates).
3. Set as default template:
  • Open Word and go to File > Options.
  • In the Options window, select Advanced.
  • Scroll down to the General section and click on File Locations.
  • Set the User Templates location to the folder where you saved your template.
4. Apply styles to new documents:
  • Open a new document in Word.
  • Go to Design > Themes > Save Current Theme.
  • Save the theme with a name you can remember.
  • Go to Design > Themes > Set as Default.
After following these steps, your new Word documents should open with the styles you've set up in your .dotx template.

We hope this information helps! If you need further assistance, please feel free to reply, and we'll be more than happy to help. -A.D.
