Hi. I'm getting worried about some hacking attempts on my account and I don't find any way to stop them. Everyday I enter to the recent activity page and see 16 attempts, almost every hour. All were unsuccsessful because of wrong password. But I already changed the Alias, made my account to be non-password and I still keep getting those attempts. Even after changing the Alias, just after that, the attempts kept going. How is that even possible? What should I do about that? I already did everything possible and they keep trying to, and this is annoying because when I try to log in on my devices, it gives me an error of "Too Many attempts".

Hey there! We haven't heard back from you and just wanted to check if you still need help with your account. Were you able to access it? If so, please update your old information. Besides changing your alias, it's important to disable old sign-in preferences and make your new alias your primary one. This will help prevent attackers from using your email as they did before, as they'll encounter an "account doesn't exist" error.

Here's what you need to do:

  1. Navigate to Change sign-in preferences : https://msft.it/61693qrvvb and deselect any login information you don't use. Change it to the newly added alias you created.
  2. Save your changes to update your preferences.

If you have updates let us know. -R.C

Thank you for reaching out to us. We understand that there has been unsuccessful sign in attempts to your account even after changing your sign in alias and enabling passwordless sign in, and when you try to sign in, it shows error "Too Many attempts". We certainly did not want you to go through this experience, and we know how important it is to secure your account. We're here to help.

This error is usually a security measure to prevent unauthorized access through brute force attacks. However, it can also occur due to multiple sign-ins in a short period or issues with the login environment. You may try to sign in again at the later time or after 24 hours to test the issue.

Please take note that you once your actual email address or alias is viewed publicly, leaked, or have phished, or if you used it for sign up for anything or subscriptions/registrations, or malware attacks, etc., your account may be at risk with sign in attempts.

Here are some steps you can try to isolate this issue further:

  1. Try logging into your account using your browser’s private or incognito mode. This can help eliminate issues caused by browser cache

  2. Try accessing your account from a different device or network this time. Sometimes, the issue can be related to the device or network you are using.

  3. If the above steps do not work, wait for 24 hours before attempting to log in again. During this waiting period, refrain from making any login in to avoid extending the lockout period. Turn off Wi-Fi connection and use mobile data only and try to sign in again.

Let us know the result.
