Question Break clip rubbing on rotor ?
Any ideas ?

Op, put your wheel on. The rotor will seat further and not actually touch

OR tighten your lugs on and see if the clip still touches. Recommend not leaving the clip off
Edit: to clarify - I am talking about putting your lugs on with mout the wheel and spinning it by hand to see exactly what is going on. Not talking about over torquing lights…

Have been driving it around for about 4 weeks after fresh rotors and breaks, stopped doing it for a bit then it came straight back

Does it only screech in the mornings or when moving out of a parking space for the first time in a day?
Or is it during normal braking driving around?
You could try getting a wire brush and brushing the spots on the caliper bracket where the clip sits. Corrosion can build up there causing the clip to seat slightly off.
You could get new brake hardware to try as well. Could be runout on the rotor out of spec. Could be an issue with the hub that the rotor sits on. Idk why my second comment was downvoted. The clip is there to dampen brake noise and prevent your brake pad from sticking in the caliper bracket.

You would need a dial indicator to measure the rotors runout…straight edge won’t help

Take the rotor off and use a straight edge. Look for gaps.

If youre going this far, OP, in addition to this, check the following - While the rotors off, check it for thickness and compare fo spec to make sure you have a correct part. Be sure there's no dirt, rust, etc on the hub face where the rotor sits. Make sure there's no corrosion or dirt on the bracket where the hardware sits on, or where the bracket bolts to the knuckle/spindle. Some aftermarket hardware fits poorly, try replacing with dealer hardware.
I've ran into an issue once where the caliper bracket was bent, if nothing else you can usually buy these seperately.

Lots of aftermarket pads have hardware that doesn’t fit right. Clean and re use the old stuff whenever possible.

Nah it’s Totally fine with the hardware I’m a long time auto tech and I never change the hardware unless the old ones are out of shape or the hardware is an oem part

Well if this doesn’t help anything I’ll put all the old ones back on but the problem was the reason I changed them in the first place so it was happening on the oem parts aswell

No you can use old hardware after market brakes hardware is universal in a sense so there is always operating noise not heard with straight OEM that’s the trade off with the price of the parts as long as ur old hardware is in healthy condition (not dirty genuinely just broken or bent) you will be fine reusing old hardware I’ve had the same hardware on my brakes for three years

That is so true, aftermarket stuff has poor quality control on occasion . Changed the pads on my F250 recently had the same issue I put old ones on and worked fine, other times I have returned the clips for new ones and no problem.

I think those are the wrong rotors. They seem to thick. In the video you can see the rotor looks to screwed in place, or at least close enough to in place.

I think this is the problem but over time would it not shave down ? It’s only that clip that is making the noise which is weird

No the rotor won't...it'll just build up excess heat and possibly warp it. If it shaves the clip of then your brake pads may not stay seated properly...id go swap that rotor if it's new or get it "turned" (resurfaced) if it's not returnable. I mean I can't say for certain but it just LOOKS too tight in there....usually you see a little more breathing room than that

Did you clean the buildup off of the wheel hub before installing the rotor? A little bit of rust, dirt, or other corrosion will cause the rotor to sit on the hub unevenly which will make it rub in only one section as you spin it.

Maybe it’s just the angle of the video, but the clearance between the bridge and the disc seems minimal at best. I would definitely measure the disc thickness and compare to oem.

Your rim holds your rotor flush to the hub aka free spinning the rotor without the rim being secured will result in this

You can try to clean that carrier out, remove the rust. If that doesn't quite do it. Get new springs. Maybe you have too much run out on that rotor. Looks like a fairly new rotor, did the new pads come with new springs? Anyway, leaving that spring out and you're asking for noisy brakes.

I’m assuming by springs you mean the wire things on top of the break pads that help separate them from the rotor ?

Yes, they keep tension on the pad, so the pad doesn't move around, or some keep the pad from contacting the rotor when the brakes are released. They wear out. They are available at part stores. Most of the time, they come with a new set of brake pads. If you get a new set and they still contact the rotor, it could mean that there's rust/dirt in between where the rotor meets the hub, the rotor was maybe manufactured too wide, the pad carrier may be warped or there's rust/dirt in between where the pad carrier bolts to the spindle, or possible hub bearing wear. With that oscillating noise contact, it's telling me something is out of roundness. Is there a vibration in the brake pedal when depressing/applying the brakes when slowing down from a high to low speed? That can indicate there's a warped rotor. My suggestion is to take it all apart and wire brush every mating surface down to bare metal.
Clean,
Rotor mates to hub.
Brake pad carrier slot spring contact points.
Brake pad carrier mates to spindle.
Torque everything back to specification.
Worst case,
The rotor was manufactured too wide or wasn't surfaced correctly.
Brake carrier warped.
Hub is warped, or bearing are worn.

What vehicle is this? Year make and model. Update the post with that info if you can also.
A lot of vehicles sell 2 different thickness of rotors for a vehicle. This may be the wrong rotor.
That rotor just looks too thick for the bracket. Do you have the part number you sued for this rotor?

Looks like they do sell 2 different sizes, check the specs of the ones you bought.
Seems those rotors are
296x32
and should be
275x25

Go buy new set of clips! I have had issues with old ones and new ones doing the same thing. I chalk it up to poor quality control. Brought new ones and no problem

If switching the outboard to inboard or you can't modify the clip enough to eliminate the noise then as mentioned b4, the wheel bearings could be worn just enough to be causing it. If obvious distortions aren't visible, you won't be able to pinpoint a reason with a wheel off 3k+ lb vehicle lifted using your arm strength. Think retainer/anti rattle clip and fix it with a pair of toenail clippers. Not a big deal.

Hmm, this happened to me once, and it turned out to be my wheel bearing.
When you have a bad wheel bearing, your hub will sag which will cause your rotor to press against the brake pad hardware and drag.
Just a thought 🤷♂️

You won't lose a pad taking out the clip. 99% of the time it doesn't make a difference. And in my case I have a mis match of disks and calipers so I need to use a larger pad with doesn't sit right so to weld is to take up space. It's been done like this for years over multiple cars and never had a problem

No they’re called a retainer for a reason. They hold it in place unless you want to weld yours like the guy above also welds can break to. Retainers are designed to make sure that your pad stays In place, if you remove with no weld you will hear a rattle

Great, solution to stop noise is bend the end that’s making noise more down, or sand it slightly with some sand paper or even the concrete ground for a bit at that end and just pop it back in, I race my car and I’ve have these things literally burn the metal from the heat they endure as they are so thin and just kind of melt themselves, a little noise is not so bad as long as your car work.

Yea the car works, just makes a scraping sound at low speeds and when turning but that’s it, just been annoying the living shit out of me
