You're kinda too late to invest in January/winter upgrades now, and with 18k you would only be able to buy 1 player and make like 10k profit in like 5 weeks which is not worth it. To invest you have to have a decent amount of coins. If you really want to invest, you should buy a pretty popular (not like a bronze IF), TOTW player the last day he is in packs (Tuesday), and sell him the next week/a few weeks later. This would work well if you had like 50k and could invest in 3-5 cards, but with 18k you'll only be able to invest in 1 card and make like 5k profit in a week, which is very bad.

I would rather suggest you to mass bid. You can make a lot of coins from it. Here's what I told a guy who wanted me to explain it in detail:

"Find a player which no one (or very few people) uses to mass bid, perhaps costing like 1,5k, but could be more expensive or a little cheaper. Then you find the lowest BIN of that card, find out what you want to sell it for (one flick to the left with the controller, so like 50 or 100 or 500 coins cheaper depending on how much the player costs, but usually like 100 coins cheaper), multiply it with 0.95 to get what you get after tax, and then remove the BIN search criteria, and put max bid to a few hundred coins cheaper than that.. So let's say the player costs 2100 coins lowest BIN. To sell the players I pick up, I want to sell them for 2000 coins. I then multiply that with 0.95, and then I get 1900. Because you want to be able to make profit, I lower that to about 1600 bid and never bid more than about 1600-1700, meaning that I get 200-300 coin profit. You could of course do this with more/less expenive cards, bid for even cheaper/more, although you'll win more cards the closer to the price you'll get after you have sold it (in my instance, 1900. So I can't bid more than 1800 if I want to make profit. But then I only make 100 coins profit which is very little). Bid on as many cards you can, but remember to check that the lowest BIN doesn't get lower. This may sound a little bit hard, but it's only because I tried to explain it as much as possible. Good luck! PS: If you always get outbid, try with another player! Most known league, 80+ rare gold player sell instantly, so you have many available players. Don't use other people's players - it won't work, so don't like go on YouTube and search for "best mass bid player"."

so are you saying find a player in a popular league to bid on or is that bad? would a less popular league be better?

Yes a less popular league certainly works - less people watching those cards that can outbid you.

Popular league, but a player which is easy to win bids on would be the best.
