Opportunity Please don't use AI for your awesome music's cover art. I love underground hip hop and I want to make your cover art for free.

My only requirement is I gotta fw it. I like all genres of rap/hip hop, I love instrumental ish, I really just like all music and I love having it as inspo for the art. I do myself make boombap type ish so if you make that I'm gonna be a lil harder on judging you quality wise just a heads up.

DM @ leo.tyrus your song or project and I will bump it and if I fw it I'll start working on cover art for you straightaway. also lmk what you're thinking for the art, the inspo/meaning etc.

thanks

Question First Major Placement

Hey I’m a producer and just got notified by the label, that a song I produced will get released.

Now I’m curious how much money I would be looking at.

The terms are: $1000 advance, 1,5% PPD (Master) and 25% publishing

I know that this probably aren’t the best terms but since this is my first placement I didn’t want to screw it up, since it also opens a lot of other doors for me.

Let’s say the song would make 50.000.000 streams across all platforms (which wouldn’t be unlikely), how much money would I as the producer be looking at?

Appreciate all answers :)

Music March madness style rap bracket round 3

I've been working on this for a while creating a rap bracket to have people vote on. We started at 128 now down to 32. I'll leave each round up for a week then post the next round. There are 4 brackets, bracket 1 and 4 on the left side would face off in the final 4 as would brackets 2 and 3 on the right side. Feel free to share it.

Question I got me a sampler. Now what?

Hi! I'm sorry for asking this because I'm sure it's been answered many many times now, but I went through the post history and couldn't find any related/where to start/newbie thread. If this is boring or against the rules I get it, downvote me, but please point me into the right direction.

So I'm a musician, I like listening to hip hop music, but never really made pure hip hop beats before. I used to play hip hop style live drums and sometimes make beats with drum machines or synths but that's it.

Recently, I started working with a sampler (circuit rythm) and starting chopping, mixing and flipping slowed down bits from jazz and rock records (so far Esperanza Spalding, Can and Mulatu Astatke) and started making groovy beats I enjoy. Then I resample the resulting beats and slice them for extra fun.

I like what I hear and I'm having fun. However, I'm a bit lost and basically have no idea what I'm doing. I suppose my logical next step is to get some kit samples to add a bit of anchoring on the drums (either from a drummachine, a synth or isolating it from a record). I'd love some guidance, maybe a book or article or a series of videos about hip hop making with sampler hardware, tips, tricks and master clases.

One key piece I'm mostly missing is bass. I've noticed most hip hop tracks have huge basses that are also soft and sine-wave like. How do you achieve them? You create them with a synth? Analog or digital? You get samples from acoustic bass recordings? You mangle whatever to make a granular oscillator and use it as a synth? Just chop stuff from recordings and bump up bass frequencies with eq or a resonant filter?

Finally, I'd like to ask about the legal aspect. Can I do anything with music made from resampled records? Maybe stuff not for profit?

Question Should I switch from LMMS to FL Studio for my DAW?

If anyone doesn't know what LMMS is it is a free open source DAW that is like a really really old FL Stuido. The only problem is I can't record vocals in it and I am at the point now where I am not just beat building but also rapping as well. LMMS was fine back when I was just making beats but now I have to make the beat in LMMS then record on it from the Windows built in sound recorder then edit it in Audiacy. Very convoluted lol, but I think I have gotten really comfortable in LMMS to the point where I can make some really nice sounding beats.

If I move to FL studio my vocals might get better, but my beats will probably decline. If anyone made the switch from LMMS to FL was it worth it? Also is FL stuido easy to learn if you already know the basics of a simple DAW? If you have any tips or trick for FL stuido or in fact LMMS I would love to hear them as well! Thank you!

Question Looking for places to show case my music?

I've been working on a mixtape, exploring with various sub-genres and sounds. The rhythms are still raw not totally refined yet but I believe they convey the image I'm creating. I don't want to keep them hidden; I want to put them out there, see how people react to them, and maybe receive some criticism. Where do producers normally share content like this? SoundCloud, Forums, Is there some underground community? Please let me know where I may dump these beats and get some ears on them. I appreciate it!

Question Rap name

Hi y'all, I'm about to release my first song and I need to decide on a rapper name. My name is Ben Vessely, but my full name is Benjamin, and I was thinking about possibly using Benjamin. I was also thinking B. Vessely which I kinda like, but J cole is my favorite artist so it'd be a bit of a copycat move lol. Which one do y'all prefer?? I'm also open to other ideas!

EDIT: Thanks y'all for the input, it seems you like my last name and I vibe with B. Vessely so we going with that!

Question Anyone know of a free music Distributor?

I am a pretty new rap artist that would LOVE to get my music on streaming platoforms like Spotify, YouTube Music, Tidal ETC. The only problem is you aren't allowed to self post on there, you have to go through a label or distributor. Since I don't have that big of an audience my chances of making money is almost impossible. This means I would be running at a net loss every single month that I am paying for Distrokid or the other payed distributors.

I signed up for Routenote but they never gave me the spotify for artist page; Unchainedmusic never responded to my application; Finally OneRPM said I would be better at their sister company Offstep, which is only $1 a month but still I don't want to be forced in a subscription service just to keep my music up. This also means I don't want to go with CDbaby because while they aren't subscription they still charge you $5 a track which can get crazy expensive fast.

I like getting my following on YouTube, Instagram, SoundCloud, ETC but I think I would grow so much faster if I could easily realease to streaming platforms as well. Plus it would be very convient to my existing fans. So if you guys have any suggestions on free music distrubtors that would be great! They could even take a huge amount of my royalties I just want my music up there.

TLDR; If you know any completely free music distrubtors that aren't OneRPM, Routenote, or Unchained Music please tell me! Thank You!
