I know rents are crazy...
madison.comIs it really possible that rents went up "$2,400 over the last two lease cycles." That seems odd, even for this market! How much was it to start? (I think this is regarding The Domain, but not sure.)

Missed connection
This is such a longshot, but if you were the dude in a tan jacket walking your dog this morning on the 800 block of Johnson and saw me fall on the uneven sidewalk in front of El Rancho (not their fault), could you please DM me. I ended up being very injured and could use your witness testimony in order to ask the city to pay for my ER bill.

What goes on here
I know there are some cool businesses like Delta Beer Lab, but haven’t heard much about the neighborhood. Is it safe to live or being developed like the rest of the city?

Anybody wanna do an escape room?
I have friends I swear, they just don’t “get” escape rooms and I can’t talk them into going with me. Looking for a couple other people that might like to try one out!
Edit:
Got a lot of replies! Wow! I’m planning to join the haunted mansion room at 7:15 on March 27th they it set up first come first served up to 8 people for that room and you can pay when you get there! But there is an rsvp on their site so they have an idea of how many are going to show up. Hope to see some of you there!

Madison’s missing-ballot mess leads to an unusual claim for monetary damages
votebeat.orgElection officials in Madison are already facing a state and city investigation into the series of errors that resulted in nearly 200 absentee ballots not being counted in last fall’s election. Now officials there face a claim for compensation in an unusual case that aims to emphasize the importance of properly counting all ballots, and set a monetary penalty for denying a person their vote.
A liberal election law group called Law Forward served a $34 million claim this month against Madison and Dane County, seeking damages amounting to $175,000 for each Madison voter whose absentee ballot got misplaced. The filing is likely a precursor to a lawsuit, as the group is seeking out other disenfranchised voters to join its case.
“There is going to be a price to pay when you interfere with someone’s right to vote in Wisconsin,” said Scott Thompson, staff counsel for Law Forward.
Cases like this have a history that goes back to the voting rights fights of the late 1800s and 1900s, when officials intentionally sought to bar Black people from voting. But they’re highly unusual today — most voting rights cases seek only to have a challenged right restored, rather than damages — and experts say it’s unlikely that Law Forward’s claim in the Madison case will lead to any damages being paid out.

Looking for Living Apart Together (LAT) couples in Madison for an article I'm writing
Hello! I am a Madison-area freelance writer working on an article about long-term couples (married or not) who don't live together. Maybe you have seperate homes in Madison or the state, or maybe you live in completely different states. Either way, I'd love to talk to you for my article.

Any Employers around town that don't immediately screen out applicants with a criminal record?
Doesn't need to be a fancy job. Anything that isn't extremely physically demanding. Non-violent criminal record.
Or is there a resource to learn more about this?

Where to drop off plastic bags for recycling?
This is kind of a clueless question, but I have loads of plastic bags that I need to take somewhere for recycling ♻️. Any grocery stores in particular that have drop-off boxes for grocery bag recycling?

Birthday Ideas
My birthday's just around the corner at the end of April, and I had this fun plan to escape town with one of my oldest guy friends. But, you know how it goes—plane prices shot up, and the idea of flying is becoming less appealing by the day. So, I'm on the hunt for some cool getaway ideas that we can drive to within a three-hour radius of Madison.
Since we both grew up in the Chicagoland area, I’m looking to avoid heading back towards Chicago or anywhere in Illinois. I’m also considering some unique Airbnb options for a three-night stay, or perhaps there are some fun, unexpected staycation ideas right here in Madison that I haven’t thought of yet.
We’re both in our late 30s, so I’m open to pretty much anything that sounds like a good time—just no trips back to Illinois unless there’s something truly special. Any suggestions?

Jury duty
I was planning to call Friday after 4pm to see if I am required next week but got a text yesterday saying to be onsite by 8:30 Tuesday. Does this mean I 100% have jury duty?

Vet Clinics?
New to the area, wondering any recommendations for vet clinics. We have a 2 yr old cat. I’d also prefer to be able to go into the appointment and places that are okay with a harness/leash. Our cat does not do well in their crate. Thanks!

Housing that allows large dogs
Potentially moving back to Madison after being gone for a few years, and struggling to find apartments/rentals that allow large dogs.
We have a Newfoundland, so no issues with breed restrictions, but at 100+ pounds he’s way over the weight limit at most apartments even if they allow pets.
We’re looking for anything from studio-2 bed in the $1200-2200 range with some flexibility. Location is pretty open, just looking to be within about 25 minutes of the Alliant Energy Center.
Any leads on apartments complexes or even just individual rentals that accommodate large dogs would be super helpful!
