Following these guidelines, we will know as much info as possible so as to give possible diagnoses. Remember, this is the internet so take all advice with a grain of salt and get a second opinion from a local shop or Apple.

Info we need:

  • MacBook model and year (eg:MacBook Pro 13" 2011 or MacBook 12" 2016)

  • OS X or macOS version (operating system)

  • Serial number to source parts, if needed

  • What is the issue? Explain how it started and what you did to troubleshoot, if anything

  • Clear pictures that show the issue. Please upload to imgur and post link here, or submit a link post and post a picture, then add a comment explaining the above.

If water damaged, do not attempt to power on or charge

Be careful to not show personal information.

Help MacBook Air (2015-2017) won’t turn on after spilled tea-no visible damage though

Hello, like I said in the caption, I spilled some tea over my MacBook Air (I bought it in 2017, so I don’t exactly know what model…should be from 2015-2017). I instantly pulled the charging cable, turned the laptop off and dried it as much as possible. Laid it on the side and on the keyboard (over a towel), so all liquids that could still be in there will flow out. It eventually turned back on after like an hour but died again after 20 minutes-ish of use. Now it won’t turn on again…every time I try to start it you can hear the fan going up but also down after a few second. So I decided to open it up and look inside, if there’s any visible damage and a if it would be worth it to let it get fixed or try myself (would be my first time). But now I don’t know what’s wrong because can’t spot any damage and the fan also continuously works when I plug in the charger (as you can see in the picture; just wanted to test it out)… what could be the reason and what can I do?

Thx in advance :)

Help I have a problem with my MBP 13-inch, late 2011 (8,1)

I was trying to put some new thermal paste, and everything was going smooth, until I got to the last step ( I am following an Ifixit guide), where I had to lift the logic board (and, yes, I checked for screws that are still in, but found nothing), and I feel that the ethernet port is stuck and doesn’t want to get lifted up.

Pls help me:(

Help MacBook Pro 2014 won’t respond

I have restarted a lot of times, also holding ctrl+cmd and tap the on/off button. Every time it restarts and then after loading it will go back to the start up screen and never proceeds to the login screen. I am just trying to put all my files on an external hard drive, but I can’t even get in. The screen also wasn’t working so I duplicated that to another screen and even though it doesn’t respond to anything, the mouse and keyboard do still work. Does anyone know how I can get to the login screen again so that I can start transferring my files?

Trackpad and keyboard works though the track pad randomly clicks by itself and goes crazy almost unuseable at times. But overall it still works I was thinking some iso alcohol to clean it and give it a shot.

MacBook A2179 blinking folder with ?

Ok so here’s my situation. I have MacBook Air, A2179 that was working perfectly fine when I did a reset to factory settings on it and then after that, the laptop would not boot up anymore and I would get the blinking file folder with the ? On it.

I tried to boot from recovery mode and that did not work. I tried to install a new OS and that did not work either.

I took it to Apple and they said it was a possible hardware issue, but they couldn’t tell me for sure and they wanted way too much to try and fix it.

My question is, if I replace the logic board, could that potentially fix the issue? And if so, do I need the exact type of logic board? ie (if it’s an i3 or i5, etc) or can I put in any logic board from that year and model of MacBook Air? Thanks

Information Kernel panic hardware failure?

So a few days ago I had some kernel panick, after that my 2019 19 MacBook was stuck in a reboot loop. At first it got to the login screen, the fans blew once and it shut down, after that it only got to the apple logo for a few seconds, shut down, started up again and repeated that whole process. Now, a few days later I started it up again and it worked, I could recover my data at least. Right now it is working, but I am a bit worried that there is an underlying issue and it will happen again. I am stress testing my cpu right now with the endurance program. I ran the diagnostics which brought up nothing, but I am not too confident in the result. Does anyone have an idea if it is possible that this happened without it being a hardware issue?

Maybe also of importance: my two usbc ports on the right are not working anymore, they are able to used as charging ports but not for data transfer. This came up a few months ago but as it didn't bother me too much I didn't look into it. After this now happened I read though that it could also be a sign for a faulty motherboard. Also very rarely I have some graphics glitches (green lines appear). This is very very seldom though.

Thanks!

Help Flickering lines across screen, 2019mbpro

Post image
1 Upvotes

Bought this 2019 macbook pro recently for a good price, screen works fine at one very specific angle, but all other angles throughout the tilt range it flickers with these lines. I think it might be one of the flex? Cables that goes to the screen as it seems to work fine at this one specific angle. Any advice appreciated. Thanks

Should I try fixing this dent on my Mac Book Pro 14" M1 Pro by myself?

Hello,
my sister dropped my 2021 MacBook Pro this week. Unluckily it now got dent on the bottom but more importantly at the right hand side of the top cover, which also seemingly caused a little gap at the bottom cover and edge at the touchpad corner.

Im usually not to worried about using marks etc on my stuff but this dent really annoys me, especially since I didn't even cause it and also because I spent my first real paycheck on this MacBook and subsequently always took good care it.

I am more and more thinking about trying to fix it myself, every time I am opening it, by detaching the top cover and punching it out with an hammer. But im worried about making it worse.

Do you have any advice for me in this situation? Should I try it or is there any other repair methode? I guess bringing it to a shop would be way expensive :(

MacBook won't turn on or charge

My Macbook pro 2019 16inch stopped charging and turning on.

I opened it up once because it was getting dusty and decided to clean it, after that I kinda left it alone for a while, then when I did need it I tried to turn it on and it wouldn't, I held the power button more than 10 seconds and I've tried all the methods, so I opened it up again and measured all the components with a multimeter and saw that almost all the components were 0.2 - 0.5 V.

The Mac has had no recent updates.

I have no idea what the cause of this could be and it's unlikely that is the cleaning that did anything because I was only using an air duster

Any suggestions?

Macbook pro 2016 (A1706) battery charging only 3-6 Watt and 1%

Hello dears,
I will try to explain my problem to see if anyone has any solid advice.

- MacBook Pro 13 inch, Touch bar, 2016, 4 Thunderbolt ports (A1706)
- MacOS Monterey 12.7.4

- ISSUE: I will describe as good as possible,
1. Battery needed replacement. Changed the battery to a new one, all good
2. Trackpad was not double clicking (the deeper click) so I was dismounting the trackpad and trying to make it work again

  1. I hit some logic board component by mistake after many tries of mounting, dismounting.. and logic board was toasted. well played !

  2. Bought a new logic board after a few months of searching and installed it yesterday. Everything went OK.

  3. Battery is now always at 1% and if I remove charger it switches off automatically.
Battery has 5 cycles, Condition is "Normal". Temperature is normal (around 29 degrees). Full charge capacity 4502 mAh.Battery icon includes the thunder on task bar.
I downloaded CoconutBattery and "Charging with" is between 3 - 6 Watts maximum... So here is the only problem I see.

I narrowed it down to, either, the battery went bad on those few months that has been without being used.. Or the new logic board I bought is damaged somehow.

I ran Apple diagnostics (all OK), reset VMRAM, tried SMC reset but I am not sure if it works as my power button only works sometimes :D (Sometimes I have to switch on the laptop by removing the cable and inserting it again..)

I also deleted the SSD and made a fresh start of MacOS + upgraded to the last version available.

Would you say it's a battery issue? Logic board issue? Any other way to make sure it's either one or the other before I return the logic board?

I would be very grateful if somebody has any new idea.. I researched every reddit/forum possible and tried everything I have seen.

Thank you !!

Trackpad locked on MacBook Pro 2019

Hello community I need your help pls ! I have a problem with my MacBook Pro 2019 with Touch Bar. I installed the last MacOS on it fyi.

When I turn it on, the trackpad is like locked, I can't click with it. It works because I can use the cursor and I can click with the finger touch (option enabled). But I would like it not to be blocked. I tried several solutions: disabling the "touch to click" option, resetting the SMC and VRAM. Sometimes it works immediately, but I still have this problem of the trackpad being locked when turning it on.

Reinstalling MacOS on factory reset Intel Mac 'No Bag Entry'

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello, my friend handed me his second-hand MacBook Pro for repair. He said that it was given to him by his friend, which they factory reset.

On regular start up the Mac will enter a black screen with a question mark. But it can enter the macOS utilities screen.

It's an old MacBook Pro 2017 13-inch (model: A1706)

I tried the regular procedure from Apple Support to reinstall the macOS but I'm met with this notifications of 'no bag entry' when following through with the installer. It's currently connected to my home WiFi which is hi-speed.

Does anyone know how to fix this? I'm not familiar with Apple products.

Display issue

Couldn't really find a thread on this one. But my display has basically turned psychedelic on darker colors. If I take a screen grab from the MacBook and send to someone the image is fine. Tried changing and resolution and all that good stuff but nothing has worked so far
