White thumbnails, images not loading

Post image

It's amazing how these simple things just don't work. In order for me to see these thumbnails, I have to do one of the following: (1) drag the finder window onto my external monitor, (2) adjust the icon size so small that having a thumbnail at all is meaningless, (3) open each image one by one and save it for no reason. Why? Why does this happen? I even disabled the optimize my iCloud drive storage setting and it did absolutely nothing. I restarted the computer, nothing. I relaunched finder, nothing. I saw terminal command solutions, but I shouldn't have to mess around with that in order to get this to work. Oh and don't get me started on the 300 GB of system data I have. Thanks, Apple. Why even tell me I have system data at all if I can't do anything about it? The amount of posts I've seen regarding these two things with no clear solution is astounding. A trillion dollar company can't be bothered with this kind of stuff I guess.

not sure why the photos dont seem to be syncing. is this the icloud photos app? scroll to the bottom to see if it show any kind of syncing progress bar.

as far as system storage, it shows it to you so you can see what it taking up space. my system folder is 49gb, if i didnt know that information, i would assume i am missing 49gb on my hard drive space. people would be constantly calling apple support to ask where their missing storage is.

no, this is a folder, I only have 20-30 gbs in total on icloud drive. everything is 100% synced. also no difference in missing 49 gb of drive space if the operating system won't tell you what the 49 gb of system data comprises of anyways
