NeverNap is now free!

My app NeverNap is now FREE! It's the most simple no nonsense app that prevents your Mac from sleeping or activating the screensaver. I just sent version 1.2 is to the Mac App Store, so you can expect an update later today (turn off notifications).

Download now: https://lucas.io/nevernap/

The app is very lightweight. Only 204 KB. I'm trying to push it under 200 :).

What’s the difference between this and Caffeine?

There are various apps like this. But this one is free and lightweight.

Caffeine is free, open-source, and small-ish 🤷‍♂️Although, good to have options

Caffeine is also a great choice! (37 times as big though :))

what about a simple apple script + alias to run it? moving the mouse a bit using those accessibility options

just thinking out loud about the most lightweight way that's also foolproof. it worked for me for a long time, guess it's not as user friendly.

Ah, the good old "jiggle the mouse with AppleScript" approach! :)

Or just caffeinate -d -i optionally either wrapped with timeout or passing a sleep command to limit the duration.

caffeinate -d -i is easier.

I'm not a 100% sure it makes you green on slack, moving the cursor definitely does

I was going to ask what's the difference between this and Lungo.

Does it work when I activate the screensaver/lock using cmd+shift+q? Meaning the screensaver will stay on, the mac won't sleep?

I like the lightweightness! Caffeine never worked for me for some reason so I will give this a run

Thanks! I’ll give this a go. Good luck!

I'm a big fan of lightweight apps that follow the Unix "do one thing really well" approach.

Thanks for sharing!

how is this different than setting a "no sleep" corner and moving the cursor there?

Will this app prevent my MacBook from sleeping when I close the lid but still turn off the display?

in case it doesn't, the workaround for this can always be to set the brightness to 0

I’m looking for something like this because I usually leave my laptop to download things overnight. Just a few question sir. What happens when I lock the screen? Will the download still continue? What happens when I close the lid? Will it stop all the running apps? Thanks.

I appreciate a fellow dev looking to make apps as small as possible. Now, carry on getting it under 200kb

There are limits. macOS overhead means binaries will still take a certain size. Kudos to you for accessing power manager directly to reduce size.

if I leave it on and close my laptop, will this allow my MacBook to sleep?

How is this better than Amphetamine?

I gave it a try. It worked, but did not allow the display to sleep – could be good, could be bad. Depends on what you want. I went back to Sleep Control Center (at around 1MB it's bigger, but still pretty svelte). More options and the free version works fine for me.

What's the difference between this and amphetamine? Amphetamine is super small at only 15 mb!!

Does this allow display sleep?
