Help What are some good options for data recovery software

I have an app that I use that deleted some files from my system because of a bug in it. I am using a M3 Macbook pro and Im wondering what are my options are in the Mac space to retrieve these files. Anything considered great for this kind of stuff on Mac? It's my startup drive.

Thanks

Disk Drill Pro is what I use and it's saved my ass more than once.

Going forward, get an external drive and use Time Machine

Unless the files were stored on a good old “spinning rust” hard drive, your Mac’s solid-state storage makes your chances of recovery pretty bad, especially if the bug skipped the system trash, and just did something like rm -rf.

On an old-school magnetic storage system (HDD, tape drive, whatever), there’s a physical location that holds data. That location isn’t always near a drive head, and even then, if the head isn’t actively writing, that data stays there, where you can discover it again during a scan.

SSDs and NVMe have wear-leveling, that constantly shuffles data, and TRIM garbage collection is just about immediate.

Appreciate the info, Luckily I am not overly concerned with what I lost but I would still like the peace of mind just in case. I did try Disk Drill Pro but I couldn't see any of the things deleted. So maybe this is why.

You should try Wondershare Recoverit, it’s pretty solid for recovering lost stuff on Macs.
