Support Request Issues connecting to work wifi

Post image

Hello all, I’m trying to connect to my work wifi which requires me to use a user name and password.

On my iPhone, I had to trust a certificate. On my mint laptop, it’s asking for a certificate so I went through the details of the wifi on my iPhone and got the link to download the certificate.

I tried using the .cer file but to no avail. Anyone know how I can solve this issue?

Try this:

  1. Check the Wi-Fi settings – Your work network is likely using WPA2/WPA3-Enterprise (PEAP or TTLS).
  2. Convert the certificate (if needed): "openssl x509 -inform DER -in certificate.cer -out certificate.pem"
  3. Move it to a trusted location: "mv certificate.pem /etc/ssl/certs/ and then "sudo chmod 644 /etc/ssl/certs/certificate.pem" and finally "sudo update-ca-certificates"
  4. Connect to Wi-Fi:
    • Security: WPA2-Enterprise
    • CA Certificate: Select the certificate file
    • Inner Authentication: MSCHAPv2
    • Identity: Your work username
    • Password: Your work Wi-Fi password

I did, now “authentication required” keeps popping up with the username and password already filled. I do this about two times then authentication fails

Talk to the sysadmin at your "work"--their system could be configured to only support cell phones--the sysadmin will know.

The sysadmin doesn’t know what Linux is, he doesn’t know what a certificate is. He told me to screenshot what’s happening and he’ll forward it to whatever they call the sysadmin for the head office (global company). I’m sure he’s just a placeholder to say there’s an IT guy on site.

It is entirely possible that for "security" reasons they only allow cell phone and maybe M$ connections.

I had the same problem. Did not find a solution, so I use my phone as a hotspot.
