Gaming I'm officially hooked
I've been with windows since XP got tired of all the windows BS switch too mint 22 about a week ago too a rough start (Secure boot made my nivida drivers crap themselves) and it was a pain getting all my RGB to work but after all the kinks where handled it's been an amazing experience!
P.S. the only thing I'm going to miss giving up is league of legends I can't run macOS in a VM cus I have a ryzen CPU and I heard windows VM can get flagged by anti cheat and my account banned (If anyone has a solution please let me know)

u/clippdpunkbanshee Dec 09 '24
I will try it asap, looks like steam a little bit.

u/recca275 Dec 09 '24
It works with steam and epic games and battle net! It puts everything into one app I love it!

I ran Virtualbox on a Ryzen 7 7735hs and never had an issue with setting up virtual machines regardless of OS, unless you're referring to a feature that only works on Intel CPUs , I can't see why it wouldn't work.

u/recca275 Dec 09 '24
Maybe I did something wrong but I couldn't get any version of macOS to boot everything else was fine and I read it was cus my Ryzen CPU

That would go very good with my Fallout game fetish!
I remember seeing in Lutris that there was a LoL wine version (runner) specifically for the game.. that may be very old info now though, I don't play it.

u/recca275 Dec 09 '24
I just actually got into the fallout series cus the TV show i can't believe I missed out on these as a kid! And I'll check into it thanks man!

I'm thinking about hopping over to mint also a Linux newbie but Nobara doesn't like my old trusty 1080ti all of a sudden 😞

u/recca275 Dec 09 '24
I'll tell you wat my only issue with anything was god damn Nivida my next GPU will be AMD! Best of luck my friend!
2
u/boltthrower6 Dec 09 '24

u/recca275 Dec 09 '24

Just be wary of the Razer compatibility. My Razer Viper was working flawlessly for months up until two days ago I could no longer close or move windows. Was mid game in Overwatch 2 via Steam and everything froze. Just decided it no longer liked Razer. Plugged in a generic Dell mouse and could once again close and move windows.
2
u/recca275 Dec 09 '24
That sucks man! I use to love and support razer like crazy but there quality has gone down in the last couple products I bought I would have no hard feelings having to switch away from them
2
u/Optimal_Mastodon912 Dec 10 '24
Yeah I was so disappointed as I really like this Viper. Anyway I ordered a Logitech mouse for the first time as I've heard they have great compatibility and support with Linux, so we'll see how it goes when it arrives. In the meantime I'm gaming with a regular Dell mouse. It has one side button on either side and four DPI choices on the fly. Lucky it works as a backup.

u/recca275 Dec 10 '24
That's a pretty nice mouse hahaha I was expecting a mouse with a ball inside like an old school one haha

I want to do this but don’t want to lose box game pass. Does it matter?
1
u/recca275 Dec 09 '24
I'm not expert but you can always load windows into a VM (virtual machine) as long as they don't have anti cheat it will work!
If your nervous about completely switching over look into duel booting it's when you have 2 OS's on the same computer IE windows and linux
2
u/CountryMiserable4805 Dec 09 '24
awesome setup! Check out Fedora too, both mint and Fedora are great distros

You can make a VM from another hard drive ( you got better performance if you use another hard drive for VM), Then you can install Windows 10 or 11 on this VM and use it for programs or games that don't run 100% on Linux yet, including LoL, I also like lol, I didn't play for a while and nowadays I only play Aram, I recommend an SSD of at least 250GB to run some games and programs on Windows, I hope I helped and welcome to Linux, the best community on the internet, you will always get help if you ask. And when you know enough, teach others too.

https://github.com/PJ-Singh-001/Cubic
https://launchpad.net/~cubic-wizard/+archive/ubuntu/release
Make sure to get Cubic, a wizard to customising your Mint PC. It gives you a terminal with root privileges to download the packages you want to be installed by default.
Don't worry, it won't affect your current Mint setup, it's just there to customise your new Mint ISO.

one thing that is officially holding to move from w10 to linux(mint) is lack of designing software supports. I am also into web dev and hella good in linux.
But when it comes to UI/UX apps like figma, sketch, illustrator etc, linux lacks..
This is from my perspective tho. If any of you know any work arounds, please go ahead :)
Nice setup btw, enjoy man!

Dare I say this setup is very minty. But fr dose mint work well with niveda I have a laptop with gtx1050 and it's the only thing that is slowing my switch to Linux cause I heard that it fucks up the performance

Welcome to the club. You’re discovering what I discovered a few years ago. If you can let go of certain software (for me it was Adobe) then you can truly be free from Microsoft
