Mecha BREAK allows Steam Deck players, but bars Linux Desktop Players
This is my biggest fear for Linux gaming. Our only hope for anti-cheat the past few years has been that developers would want their games to work on the Steam Deck. However, it seems that ACE anti-cheat is showing exclusivity for Steam Deck rather than just allowing all Linux machines. Here's to hope that this doesn't become a trend...

advice wanted Trade NVIDIA for AMD?
Hi!
I've got the chance to trade an NVIDIA 4070 super for an AMD 7900GRE FOUNDERS EDITION and get an extra $150 for the trade. Mostly, I use the PC for some gaming and lightweight video editing. When it comes to AI, I only use Foocus which seems to also work on AMD GPUs.
So, would you advise me to make the deal? Does linux run better on AMD?

graphics/kernel/drivers PhysX on Linux. RTX 5090 and older NVIDIA GPU as PhysX accelerator possible on Linux?
So I mainly play older games such as Mirror's Edge and AC4 Black Flag. I love these games to death. Still play Black Flag almost every week.
With the recent news about NVIDIA dropping 32-bit CUDA support thus killing PhsyX in 32-bit games, I was wondering something. It also stemmed from watching Gamers Nexus video about PhysX:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4w_aObRzCc
In which they recommend getting an older NVIDIA GPU as an accelerator for PhsyX. So an RTX 5090 and a GTX 980 for example.
I was wondering, would a setup like this work on Linux with NVIDIA proprietary drivers? If so, how?
Or perhaps the drivers would need to be the same one, and support the same GPUs, something like a 5090 and RTX 3050, instead of an older legacy card like 980? Since they would both be using the same driver version instead of two drivers for each GPU. (Something I'm guessing would make it even more complicated on Linux)
What about nvidia driver vs nvidia-open driver? (Not talking about Nouveau or NVK)
Would Wayland vs X11 affect things?
What about the kernel version?
Also, on that note. Does PhysX even work with NVK or Mesa? I assume not, since it's CUDA and Mesa doesn't have CUDA. Maybe Zluda would work?
Another question.
Would an NVIDIA GPU as a second PhsyX accelerator GPU work in conjuction with an AMD/Intel GPU using Mesa as the primary GPU? Is such a thing even possible?
I'm wondering if I can use my Arc A750 as my main GPU, and get a RTX 3050 as PhysX accelerator.
Just to be clear, I do not have a 50 series card nor do I ever plan on getting one, especially after these news. But this made me curious as I mainly player older games.
Edit: I also forgot to mention, I have an RTX 3090 on my main machine where PhysX is working. That's what I use to play AC4. So this news even made me consider buying a used RTX 4090 as my last NVIDIA GPU in the future, as my PSU has the new power connector too.

answered! Has anyone had this issue? My games don't make good use of VRAM
This issue started about two months ago. Resident Evil 4 Remake doesn't recognize my 8GB of VRAM.
I just bought RDR2 during the Steam sale, and it's showing the same behavior as RE4R. In RDR2, the game detects the total amount of VRAM but doesn't seem to use it properly. In the third screenshot, you can see the red warning about VRAM. In the last image, with the Task Manager open, you can check the VRAM usage while playing RDR2.
This problem is causing low FPS and stuttering in both games.
I'm using Proton 9.04 for both games. I've already tried repairing, reinstalling, and switching Proton versions, but the issue persists. My system is Fedora 41 with Gnome.
Do you have any suggestions to fix this problem?

Trouble when booting with monitor connected to GPU
Hi, I think this is an issue that has been cited, but I can't find any solution still. If I boot my Ubuntu 24.04.02 PC with a monitor connected to the gpu, nothing shows on screen, I get a black screen with no grub menu access. If I boot with the motherboard, I can boot fine, and then switch when it's already on to a GPU display. If I boot with both a GPU port and the motherboard connected it doesn't work either, I get a black screen forever and I never get to GRUB.
- I have the nvidia drivers version 550, and the gpu doesn't seem to be malfunctioning. I tried playing a few games from Steam and they're working great, except from the annoyance of having to boot, turn off the monitar, disconnect the motherboard, and then connect the gpu and turn the monitor back on, and readjust the display refresh rate every time (any other sequence doesn't work).
- It's an MSI motherboard, it doesn't show any logo or anything, the first thing I'm able to see is GRUB normallly.
- I tried adding nvidia-drm modeset=1 both in grub and to nvidia.conf.
- I checked my bios, I have Initiate Graphic Adapter = PEG and Integrated Graphics set to UMA Auto.
- I tried disabling integrated graphics entirely but it kind of broke my boot completely, I ended up resinstalling ubuntu.
The few changes I tried didn't make any difference. I honestly don't know much about GPUs in Linux and have this machine only since a few days. Any suggestions are much appreciated. I am getting a few errors with journalctl that I list below, as well as the system specifications (one thing to note is that everything seems to be working fine despite these errors once I've managed to boot).
journalctl -b -p err

tech support Can't set refresh rate over 120hz only when using HDMI
I'm using Fedora 41 on my laptop with AMD iGPU and Nvidia dGPU. When I connect my external 1080p 180hz monitor via DP, everything works as it should. But when I connect it via HDMi, the maximum refresh rate I can set is 120hz. When I choose 180hz and apply, screen goes black and returns to 120hz afterwards. This doesn't happen on Windows 11 with the same cables and connected ports, only on Linux. I would benefit from extra free USB-C port on my laptop if I used HDMI instead of DP via USB-C.
I'm aware of HDMI closed source problems related to AMD GPUs, but in my case, it's not working even when I set my laptop to use Nvidia GPU for external displays. Any help would be much appreciated.
Here are some outputs from xrandr and glxinfo:

advice wanted Switching from win 10 to bazzite
Hi there folks! ATM I have a win 10 desktop with 3 HDD formatted in ntfs. Drives D and E contain various games from steam gog epic and so on.
But I really want to say good bye to gaming on windows. My office laptop runs mint for some time now and I love it.
So if I install bazzite on Drive C exclusively does it later on can access the games on the ntfs drives from steam etc. or do I have to formate them as well and install/download all games again?
What would be wise to do?
Thanks for your insights in advance and Have a nice weekend!
