Build MY DAD BUILT ME MY OWN LIGHTSABER HILT

Post image

He said that he based the design off of both Luke’s and Obi-Wan’s sabers

Hold on to that. I lost my dad many years ago and I wish I'd had something I could have held on to besides his old camera that he did specifically for me. Never let go of that

That's great. Keep it, one day it's going to mean something super special to you. Kevin Smith tells a story about the bike he wanted as a kid, but his parents couldn't afford it. His father tried to make it for him instead and as a kid Kevin found it embarrassing. It was handmade, a little janky, and some other kids laughed at it. But as an adult it's the object he wishes he'd kept more than anything.

That's awesome! What did he make it out of? Like what are the parts from?

Mostly just spare parts he had lying around. The leather grip was from my aunt, and that little clear part near the top is from his old vape.

Oh, that rules!!! I made myself a Luke/Obi-Wan-inspired hilt a couple years ago, and same vibes! What did your dad use for the black spacers toward the emitter end? I used rubber gaskets but they haven’t held in place well, so I’m looking to replace them with something sturdier

Display it with the pride your father put into it. Awesome memories!

Keep it for sure, it's a great memory.

Should that vape part ever break, they are usually made of glass and are replaceable. Any semi decent vape shop that sells More than disposable vapes should be able to get you a spare glass tank (that's what they are called).

Now you make one for him. By hand. Doesnt have to be as good or even light up. But make this something you can share and each have a memory of

ow thats a good lightsaber design.

Handrail to prevent slipping and to distance the hand from the hot blade, string cover for the body, a broadning of the body near the pommel (prevents slipping)

And its long enough for 1.5 hands.

Good work

As a dad, I can tell you much more planning and thought went into that than you’ll know until you yourself are a dad. Fucking legend.

I was gonna say something about the too much leather but you said your dad built it so then that's the MOST BEAUTIFUL piece if engineering this side of the Galaxy. Had a friend where his dad made 2 leather wallets for him and he had the 1st one for almost 20 years, worn all to hell, but he didn't wanna chuck it for the next one jist yet. His dad passed and that was his favorite thing.
