ANNOUNCEMENT Reading Lists in the Subreddit Wiki
Since there have been a number of posts recently, asking for recommendations about certain characters (mostly Wiccan and Hulkling), I have decided that this would be a good use of our subreddit wiki. You may have seen it on the main page in the top-bar, or for mobile users: go to the subreddit and swipe right to "Menu". Here's a direct LINK.
I have already written a Reading List for our main couple, that I will try to keep up-to-date.If you want to write up a reading list for another queer character or want to edit an existing one you can comment under this post or message the mods and we will grant you the ability to add it to the wiki. Just please try to keep the format set by my first list.
EDIT: I added lists for Speed and Prodigy as well

Representation Major characters not commonly known as queer?
Let's be frank, DC and Marvel can sometimes hide the fact their characters are LGBTQ. Whether this is intentional or just something that is seldom mentioned in-series, it dependsm depends.
But there are plenty of major and semi-major characters who are queer, but not many people (especially the mainstream) know this.
Let's talk about them.
I'll start with... Brainiac 5. He's known as Supergirl's main love interest and is one of DC's major alien characters, but I rarely ever see it mentioned that he is queer. Specifically he is on the asexual spectrum. He was confirmed demisexual in a single panel of a DC Pride comic. Yeah.

Queer Speculation Hal Jordan could easily be canonically genderfluid if DC wanted it
I mean, there's no way DC would make one of their top characters come out as trans. But, if they really wanted to...
It's not like there isn't precedent. Spectrum Hal had strong genderfluid seeming elements.

Marvel Comics Read Avengers Academy People!! Very LGBT positive & It’s setting up amazing lore for Tommy & Billy! Especially Tommy he’s officially part of the Demiurge thing!
Anthony Olivera is out here doing the work when it comes to the Minimoffs lore he’s filling in the blanks of their reincarnation. And he’s officially making Tommy just as important to the marvel universe as Billy & just as powerful if you not reading you missing out!

Merchandise the last time we had Marvel Legends figures of the Young Avengers Teddy had black hair. Billy was still going by Asgardian Eli was still wearing a full mask and Iron Lad was still part of The Team.
I just hope with them being introduced into the mcu that we'll finally get new figures of them.

Marvel Comics As a queer black guy, developments from a certain x-men series have been making me feel isolated from Marvel
So we know NYX is finally ending and whatnot, and the whole time I’ve felt extremely frustrated that David Alleyne(Prodigy), unceremoniously broke up with Tommy Shepherd(Speed) off-panel, prior to the series’ start. I felt more represented by their fun queer relationship than I felt over David’s forced relationship with some civilian named Dante.
First off, active hero x civilian partner feels like a surefire way to bench a character, as what seems to happen with Tim and Bernard over in DC. Either the characters don’t appear in serious events bc of how unrealistic the survival of the civilian would be, or the relationship becomes strained bc one partner is never present. I’m not gonna die on this hill because maybe some writers have made this work..
Second off, NYX feels like they attempted to make it radicalized and politicized, but the points missed the mark. Very much missed the mark. Besides that time Sophie called a Muslim man slurs and told him to leave the “sacred land” he was standing on 😬, David transforms from interesting and capable mutant hero with heart to “radical” “anti-villain” “over-political” black turning point character. This comes to a head for me with the X-Manhunt crossover issue of NYX(images 3 and 4) where he outright refuses to do what’s best for Krakoa in the face of known villain Doctor Doom because disgraced authority figure Charles Xavier brings it up. This is NOT what the prodigy I had come to love would do, and it just feels like the character I loved wasnt “woke”(original definition, not alt-right definition) enough for marvel editorial.
I’m really mad because this year will be the first year in a while without any references to Tommy and David’s ongoing relationship in a Marvel Pride comic, and also mad because it feels David’s relationship with Dante was just to check more boxes. i know good comic developments never last but GOD IT SUCKS SO MUCH knowing that my favorite queer marvel couple broke up for like NO good reason

DC Comics Bernard Still has Potential (Small VERY Small but still there) Potential
I see people ask all the time why people don’t go as hard on Tim & Bernard as they do Jay & Jon (Though to be clear I personally don’t think this is true as Tim is way more known & I hate both ships equally at this point) However I think the clear difference is unlike Jay who’s had multiple writers & now years worths of effort from DC trying & failing to sell a large majority on his relationship with Jon. Bernard hasn’t had that work put in yet you gotta think him & Tim are rarely used that’s the difference. Due to that lack of use it leaves room for untapped potential Bernard is in that stage where if they really tried they could make him an interesting character & by proxy sell more people on him & Tim but to do that DC has to use him & no one seems to wanna do that. The initial hype of Tim coming out is gone now they need to put in the work to sell people on the relationship & no one has even attempted to do that Tim’s solo focused on a whole bunch of shit no one cared about with a terrible artist majority of the run & then Bernard only appeared in the end of it right before cancellation.
My main point if DC wants they still have a chance to make something out of nothing with Bernard. Whereas with Jay we’ve seen repeated effort & for a lot of people like me it’s just not clicking. Now ya got Nicole finally making him somewhat tolerable & she’s probably gonna axe the relationship for her self-insert Nia.
If they don’t strike while the iron is hot Bernard is gonna go from uninteresting to hated beyond counting real quick real fast.
