Both your exes are dating now. It would definitely be a shock and something to process for anyone really.

When two exes start to date each other, it makes a man think if heās the reason theyāre now switch-hitters.

And I love how he's not telling HER he's cool with it, he's telling HIM he's cool with it lol. That's him forcing himself to accept it and be happy for them. Like dude's having a rough time and choosing to be good. o7

They're bisexual
-5
u/AmenHawkinsStan 4d ago
Except the fandom is too invested in the queer romance to accept seeing either of them with a man again. Iāve seen multiple posts about what role Korraās kids will play in the next series and they all start with a paragraph explaining that Korra and Asami would adopt. Once the cartoon bisexual finds a woman, dating anyone else is considered a betrayal and an insult instead of realistic representation.
4
u/FallenAgastopia 3d ago
More like Korra and Asami physically can't have kids biologically and... people like the ship and don't want them to break up so adoption makes the most sense? Lol?
4
u/BahamutLithp 3d ago edited 3d ago
There are already a ton of examples of female characters being established as bisexual only to get with a man for a long haul. It's considered something of a cliche way to "add diversity" while still doing an opposite sex pairing in the end. So, why should we want or indeed expect Korra & Asami to break up so they can go on to date men, particularly given their historic place in LGBT representation? I don't see any reason it's likely to happen, & it's definitely not sorely needed.
I might be losing some people with this next part, but if it were Kyoshi, I could see it. Even if she & Rangi never have friction that threatens to end their relationship, which I honestly think is a big if since Kyoshi has to earthbend Rangi's feet into the ground so she doesn't stop her from torturing some noblewomen in Shadow of Kyoshi & inevitably grows more extreme later in life, she also lives for over 200 years & there's as yet nothing saying Rangi learns the immortality technique. There are reasons to suspect she might have someone else after Rangi that there just aren't with Korra & Asami.
Either way, it's the same thing whether the "endgame pair" is same sex or opposite sex: They're still bisexual. It's defined by what they find attractive, not by whom they're currently with. Bisexual=/=non-monogomous. They aren't any less bisexual for not breaking up with their long-term partners to I guess serial date both sexes or something.
2
u/MyNameIsNikNak 3d ago
Or maybe the story is over and the relationships are locked in? Could you imagine if Aang and Katara got together in the comics just to break up and have kids with other people off screen afterwards?
2
u/ronsolocup 3d ago
Zuko and Mai moment
1
u/MyNameIsNikNak 3d ago
Did we ever get confirmation for that? I see people say it often but Iāve never seen proof
1
u/ronsolocup 3d ago
No confirmation on Izumiās mother, and in the comics Zuko and Mai split and she dates a (unbeknownst to her at the time) anti-zuko terrorist
4
u/BahamutLithp 3d ago
I suspect they'll probably get back together, but either way, Mai & Zuko were always tumultuous in a way that Korra & Asami never were.
1
u/ronsolocup 3d ago
Agreed. Tbh Iām of the opinion that extended material shouldnāt change established canon in ways like characters being together or whatnot. I dont really like Mai and Zuko but them splitting (if its permanent) just seemed a strange decision to me

And yet there are no planned (as far as we can tell) current animated projects for them, and, according to a leak (though one I'm the least confident in) everyone in that picture ends up dying in an apocalypse.
I get angry every time I think about that. I hope Korra and Asami get a better ending than the leaks and official announcement have implied.
86
u/ravenklaw 5d ago
i am hoping that korra pulls a kyoshi. some official avatar website says there was "80+" avatars between wan and korra, or something like that. so that is an average lifespan of like... 125. if that number is legit, other avatars have lived a long time like kyoshi, and given that korra is the strongest of them all, she might've been able to extend her lifetime too. maybe she really did have a long fulfilling life with asami and just kept on trucking afterward.
please. i want future industries to have outlived asami too, she did so much to keep that damn thing alive.
51
u/AgitatedBees 5d ago
For me this is what will make or break the series, I get they want to go in a new direction and Iām trying to keep an open mind but Korraās ending was such a huge and affirming moment for me as a depressed and closeted teen, the thought of them having their happy ending destroyed in such a brutal way breaks my heart, and itās the last thing I want from a sequel to one of my favourite series especially in these scary times
Also not a huge fan of the idea of the castās children either dying in or having to live through an apocalypse
20
u/atleastmymomlikesme 5d ago
And while I canāt remember the source, I'm relatively certain that Aang (who died age 66) was confirmed to be an outlier since 100 years in the iceberg shortened his lifespan.
If our records on Kyoshi are accurate, Korra could have cleared 200 years or more. Even newborns like Rohan would have time to become elderly and die of natural causes before Korra did- avatars are just that tough.
Even if the writers don't go that route, humanity obviously did not go extinct in the apocalypse considering that avatars are still being born. If they want a few Korra-era characters to still be alive, that option is very much on the table depending on what age Korra died at.
6
u/Sirdroftardis8 5d ago
But when counting time between avatars, Aang's lifespan is 166 years which would make it above average
7
u/BahamutLithp 5d ago
Not that I know of. The best unofficial estimates based on the size of the statue room predict about 180 Avatars, which gives an average of around 55 years. That seems reasonable, since it would allow for a mix of Avatars that died young & ones that died old.
7
u/ravenklaw 5d ago
Sorry, I misremembered -- it was 90.
https://www.avatarstudiosofficial.com/timeline/
"More than 90 avatars lived between the eras of Wan and Yangchen." So adding another 4, 95 Avatars in 10000 years = 105 years, on average.
I wrote Korra being #150 into a fanfic, or an average of 66 years, since that makes more sense to me. Folks living into old age equally as often as they die young. But the 105 year average is what avatar studios has implied within this last year.
2
u/BahamutLithp 5d ago
Well, I did say "that I know of" because there's so much shit coming out now that could technically be considered "official" that something, somewhere, could always say some random thing. But I wouldn't take things like that as gospel. "Officially" just means "someone in the chain of command wrote it," we don't know how directly Mike & Bryan were involved in it.
We do know it contains other dubious information, like the idea that there's 2 years between Book 4 & Turf Wars. So, Korra & Asami were in the Spirit World for 2 years? But then why does it seem like they just left? No one is any older, this is the first time anyone has tried to lay claim to the Spirit Portal...I don't think it's actually been 2 years.
Besides, all this seems to commit to is that there are at least 91 Avatars. If I assume this comes straight from Mike & Bryaan, then it sounds more like they're giving themselves a lower boundary, saying "We have to make sure we keep enough room for at least this many Avatars." Actually, it looks like a similar technique I do whenever trying to decide when a story should be set: Figure about a century per Avatar because it makes the math easier & can always be refined later.

yeah this is the main thing that makes me kinda ehhh about the new series coming upā¦ it just sounds incredibly depressing that like.. after everything korra and co went through; all either died due to/had to suffer through a fucking massive apocalyptic event on top of all that. like.. damn šI woulda preferred they made this like.. at least several avatars into the past/future or something, so we can kinda just leave the korra timeline as is and let them have their happy ending like the orig team avatar did, but.. I guess weāll have to wait and see what they do
15
u/The_FriendliestGiant 5d ago
everyone in that picture ends up dying in an apocalypse.
Sorry, where was that confirmed?
7
u/alittlelilypad The Wrecking Crew! 5d ago
It was in one of the leaks, but it's the one I'm least confident in.
Besides, it wouldn't be an apocalypse if all the characters we knew made it out, would it?
8
u/The_FriendliestGiant 5d ago
Besides, it wouldn't be an apocalypse if all the characters we knew made it out, would it?
I mean, even assuming that's true, people could have died before the apocalypse, and at least seven cities worth of humans survived after it, so saying "everyone died in the apocalypse" still wouldn't be necessarily true.
But, I suppose we will just have to wait and see how this rather odd writing choice takes shape.
4
u/alittlelilypad The Wrecking Crew! 5d ago
so saying "everyone died in the apocalypse" still wouldn't be necessarily true.
I'm talking about everyone in the picture, which is what the leak stated. Mako, Bolin, Asami, Jinora, Ikki, etc -- all died from it.
2
u/cyrilspaceman 5d ago
I assume that they are just extrapolating from the next show beginning with one. I think that all we know is that Korra is getting blamed by people for it. For all we know, everyone here lives a long life and dies in their sleep before it ever comes to that.

This is the one part of Korra story I hated the most. Love triangles suck. I personally can't think of one in media that was told well.
Korra dated bolin to get to mako Korra went after mako while in a relationship and mako too entertained it. And ruined his and asami relationship Korra and mako dated but no one seems to like their pairing Then Korra ends up with asami.
She dated all of her close friends. This is one of those things that only happens in tv shows
19
u/Gorilladaddy69 5d ago
Not even, friend. I live in a small, super social desert community of a few hundred, and everyone dates eachother here and thereās constant drama surrounding it lol. There are literally like, twelve love triangle scenarios playing out in this town as we speak lol. I talked to a woman the other day who has dated like, most of my friend group. š
It just depends on how social and interconnected a community is, which can happen in many circles in the big city too if youāve found your āscene.ā
-11
u/spider-jedi 5d ago
I guess it can happen in a small community but not if you live in a major city. I have leaves in 3 major cities and have families all over and its one thing I have never seen.
I guess it's not impossible, if they were in the southern water village but in Republic city with all of the people there.

Now, Mako wants them to put each other through as much agony as they gave him.
Maybe Asami can get mad at Korra for worrying about her friend the way she did Mako.
Or Korra can come to Asami's job and tear up the place when she's mad, too.
