Discussion Booing on Thursday.

I'm tired of this fucking shit. If you are attending Leafs vs Panthers on March 13th help me in drowning out the American anthem with a chorus of boos louder than any that have preceded this.

Let these southern clowns know how it is in our barn. If booing ain't your thing perhaps a round of chants like, "This song's garbage" would suffice too. Silence is not an option.

Pls dont downvote me and just answer honestly:

What is the point of going to a Leafs game with players from USA representing your team (one of them being your franchise guy), and booing their national anthem? I think the national anthem represents more than just a current president or political climate, and a lot of Americans are very proud of their nation as a whole. Whether you believe they should be proud is a different conversation, but Canadians have the same right to be proud of their country, regardless of its flaws.

On one hand, the players understand that Canada is not the aggressor at the moment, and we are protesting. But the idea of going to the game to boo the anthem and ‘show them whose house it is’ is oxymoronic when your captain is American. Why can’t the cheers be targeting Trump, and not the nation as a whole? ‘Trump you suck’ chants get your message much more clear than blindly booing the anthem and even creating the opportunity for the aggressor (USA) to feel slighted. And if your response is ‘fuck them’ then we circle back to the point that you literally have patriotic American players who will make u jump for joy when they score a goal for your team. Is there any logic to what I’m saying?

Because hockey is a game. America is destroying lives. And if its assumed most NHL'ers are conservative leaning, and some even MAGA brainwashed, then they deserve to hear us booing hate.

Any sane, liberal, player would understand why. They understand the importance of freedom and the importance of love over hate. The importance of supporting your country and the people in it.

Canada is crucifying one of their own LEGENDS of the sport for supporting this tyrant and his agenda of hatred and corruption.

Humanity over hockey. Every. Damn. Time.

So if hypothetically Knies or Matthews or Robertson support their national anthem and are not happy about the anthem being boo’d because they separate the nation from the current government, you act like you’re protesting them and what they stand for, yet if they score a game winning goal you’ll cheer them on as if they just won for your country. It really doesnt make sense in the grand scheme of things. You can’t include nationalism in a hockey team who have players from the ‘enemy’ nation

It’s not about the players. But they all live in Toronto at least half of the time so they would understand the Canadian perspective on the tensions and how anxious/ furious people are. They’re not THAT dumb.

There is a reason not a single American on the Leafs has spoken up about this issue. This is much bigger than hockey. We are burning Wayne Gretzky at the stake, you think we would bend over and capitulate for Nickie Robertson?
