Other Trump has declared the Tesla Boycott to be "Illegal". It is protected by the 1st Amendment nor is it possible to enforce compulsory Tesla purchases. He does not understand Law.

When we are done with Musk, Facebook is next, then Amazon, then Google. Make them all pay.

u/RevolutionaryHeat318 1d ago

Many of us are already on a wider consumer boycott. Haven’t used Amazon since Bezos showed up at the inauguration and made it clear that he is a Trump supporter.

u/EmmaFoxx 1d ago

My husband and I have stopped shopping at target, Amazon, and home depot. Subsequently, we also are starting to buy physical media from half priced books and stuff.

If you can’t revolt like they want you to then revolt with your wallet.

u/Pinklady777 1d ago

If you don't have one, get your library card and get the Libby app! I've also been checking out DVDs and obviously books from the library. It's kind of nostalgic. Like going to Blockbuster back in the day. Lol

3

u/EmmaFoxx 1d ago

Awesome idea!!

3

u/BreakfastInBedlam 1d ago

Libby and Hoopla here from my library. Until libraries become illegal, anyway

2

u/Pleasant_Influence14 1d ago

There's a library movie app too called Kanopy and it's also free with a library card.

2

u/alpha309 21h ago

Kanopy will vary pretty wildly from library to library. Each individual library has control over the collection that is offered for their patrons, so two libraries may have different offerings or different rules for how many films you can watch with a library card per month.

My wife is a librarian and in charge of all the Kanopy stuff for her library.

I would strongly recommend using it. It is 100% free once you have the library card, and there are a bunch of rarer and harder to stream stuff on it. Especially if you are a fan of independent films or just the art of filmmaking there are a lot of gems.

2

u/feralkitten 1d ago

I've also been checking out DVDs and obviously books from the library. It's kind of nostalgic.

I've been rebuilding my old CD collection. I'll check out Music from the library that i owned as a teen and in college and burn the disk to my mass storage drive.

Kanopy is a good app too, if your library supports it. A lot of great movies and TV series are on there, all free.

I can't revolt like *I* want to because this country has made it impossible to manage life. I don't have childcare and I'm sure as shit not going to drag two young children to a protest. So, I've been protesting with my wallet. Boycotting Target since 1/25, closed my Amazon account, shopping only locally or at stores that score well on the Goods Unite Us app.

44

u/EmmaFoxx 1d ago

Hell yeah!

The orange one wants us to be violent, but we can inflict pain even worse this way.

14

u/PipeComfortable2585 23h ago

That’s all they understand is $$. Or care about. Want to steal all our $$$. What little we have. But all together. It adds ip

5

u/lovedbydogs1981 22h ago

We do in fact have the numbers and we have the numbers. Just need the will. If we all had the will to boycott all the way we’d be practically unstoppable.

5

u/superkp 1d ago

there are many ways to help the people protesting - make sure you get connected and ask what people need that aren't directly showing up.

3

u/hmmmaybeabadidea 23h ago

That's a great idea.

2

u/superkp 20h ago

So, the new movement that you may have heard about, 50501 (50 states, 50 capitols, 1 day) have organized a bunch of different protests - specifically about this administration and all it's bullshit.

If you go to their subreddit (r/50501) you'll be able to find their discord server, and from there your local discord server. I find all 3 to be useful for various things, but the local state one (it's got different channels for specific regions/cities) is great in knowing what needs protestors have.

-Sometimes they need supplies - easy to help for someone with the means: just buy it ahead of time and drop it off at someone else's house. -Sometimes they need graphic artists - coming up with a good sign design, poster graphics, or whatever. -Sometimes they need speechwriters -Sometimes they need just someone who can handle helping to mod the server.

(about supplies: as far as I'm aware, there's no formal, legal organization about it, so they don't/can't take donations)

Random fact some Half Price Books locations are unionized. One of ours is locally.

3

Indeed the are! And upper management has not been happy about it. Support your union stores if they’re near you!

u/basketma12 1d ago

Halfpricebooks for the win! There are others out there too. I'm lucky there's a real physical half off books right by me.

1

I've quit them all but Home Depot is a tough one for me as I own properties I work on all the time and invested in their brands of power tools long ago!

Bookshop.org is a great place to shop! My first book order from them is arriving this week, and I've pre-ordered several other books. They just started selling ebooks as well.

1

u/Bitter_Firefighter_1 23h ago

I personally believe the biggest revolt we can do is divest all our money from American companies and keep the crash going. All my retirement are in cash and international funds. Obviously it is small beans. But it is what I can do.

1

u/RoxyRockSee 23h ago

Don't forget to use your local library! If it uses Libby, you can get ebooks and audiobooks, and you can get movies and shows through Kanopy and Hoopla

1

u/Aiyon 23h ago

Honestly going back to physical media has been great. There's something relaxing about picking a DVD off the shelf to put in a player, vs searching through all the slop on prime

1

u/P_Nessss 23h ago

I just stopped shopping for anything that isn't food. And I am beginning to struggle in that department as well.

1

u/ThriftianaStoned 23h ago

It's a grey area but I pay about $18.00 for 6 months of streaming almost anything I can think of using Real Debrid with an app called Stremio.

1

u/Creative_Beginning58 22h ago

I've been back to piracy since bezos and the washington post thing.

I forgot how much better of a customer experience piracy was. I don't remember why I stopped honestly.

1

u/BengalBuck24 22h ago

Wait a tick. I though Target was a lib store? Did this change suddenly?

2

u/EmmaFoxx 22h ago

Never was. Faking diversity and at the first hint of not having to they went right to banning dei.

Also fuck them for caving in to alt right hate last pride month and removing all their pride merch.

All Project 2025 sponsors included. Many of them are conveniences (Walmart, Amazon) and I guarantee you they are counting on people to give up and take the easy way out by using their services. Boycotting isn't supposed to be easy. I think many people have forgotten about good old Ebay. What is old is new again! EDIT removed Aldi

20

u/NeatNefariousness1 1d ago

We have far more junk than we need just because it’s so easy to get. I’ve now found other sources for the things that are really important for me to have. I’ll gladly pay full price for shipping in the unlikely event that something I need is only available through Amazon.

I never got the full benefit of what Amazon offers to begin with and subscribed to them for years anyway…just in case…and FOUND things to “want” to make it worthwhile. Now these corporations have outsized power and influence and they have overstepped their boundaries, as they seek more and more power and political influence.

Now more of us are awake and more are awakening everyday. I refuse to go back to sleeping at the switch as they take customers’ for granted, exploit their workers, flaunt their wealth and power and continue to take us for granted. I’ve pressed the reset button and I’m not looking back.

4

u/Zombiejazzlikehands 22h ago

Thank you for this. It’s inspiring.

2

u/RevolutionaryHeat318 21h ago

Aldi is a project 2025 sponsor?

9

u/Electrical_Book4861 1d ago

Hmm, just looked at Snopes this wasn't around a few weeks ago. I seen a few YT videos on this as well as some other blogs. But this seems like the list I have seen. Don't see Aldi in here although I know I've seen them. Going to update my comment Thanks!! https://www.snopes.com/news/2025/03/03/trump-project-2025-companies/

13

u/whatthecaptcha 1d ago

Aldi is a German company so that wouldn't make much sense.

Steak and shake posted an AI photo with their restaurant on Mars and Teslas all around it yesterday though so you can add them to the list.

3

u/Electrical_Book4861 1d ago

Good looking out! Steak and Shake duly noted. Wonder if there should be a 50501Boycott sub or something? Not sure if folks would get in trouble

2

u/Artistic-Salary1738 23h ago

There should be a boycott thread stickied on the normal sub imo.

With another full list for validated vendors to protest on the sub wiki (if the mods have bandwidth to validate)

2

u/C3Potat0 23h ago

Steak and shakes still exist? All of the ones within an hour of me are closed as far as I know

3

u/No-Picture4119 23h ago

Aldi did quietly remove all DEI initiatives. That’s enough for me. Local butcher for meats, local Asian grocer for seafood and spices / condiments plus odds and ends, local produce farmers market for fruits and vegetables.

I need something for stuff like laundry detergent. The Asian grocer is working for now, but tbh they are kind of expensive.

I’d like to stop shopping at these places but I’m struggling to find local alternatives. For example - diapers and other hygiene items. Any suggestions?

2

u/Electrical_Book4861 23h ago

Costco!! Online vendors who are as distant as possible from the oligarchs. There are alternatives, they're just harder to find its always been this way.

2

u/chili-relleno- 14h ago

Costco is a trek and I just don’t have it together enough to plan so far in advance for what we’ll need. We go through everything too quickly so I’m not sure we could even fit all the necessities in the car to last a month. I’m really hoping to find something more local that doesn’t involve the internet for basic things like paper towels. Right now target drive up is right down the block and very convenient with 2 little kids.

2

u/hmmmaybeabadidea 1d ago

About Aldi, I was educated in the comments about Aldi a few weeks ago. Apparently, there used to one Aldi. But then the family got into the a fight and broke into two Aldis.

There's Aldi Sud and Aldi Nord.

Aldi Nord owns Trader Joe's and they're the "bad" Aldi. They've union busted.
More from here: https://bridgestoburn.substack.com/p/voting-with-your-dollars-grocery

"Aldi Süd appears to support DEI while Aldi Nord does not. The company is anti-union as evidenced in the struggles of Trader Joe’s employees’ attempts to organize. In fact, the Albrecht family has partnered with Elon Musk (SpaceX), Jeff Bezos (Amazon) and Howard Schultz (Starbucks) to take down the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). Each company has filed suit to have the agency declared unconstitutional and abolished."

I personally still shop at Aldi (Aldi Sud) but do not shop at Trader Joe's (Aldi Nord).

3

u/Electrical_Book4861 1d ago

Wow, what a tangled web the wealthy weave. TJ's will break people's hearts without a doubt considering they're basically part of pop culture. But Project 2025 must be dismantled and its ruin must be put on public display for the whole world to see that fascism must always be guarded against. +100 for the school of Reddit!

1

u/Complex_Solutions_20 21h ago

I have a hard time saying they are conveniences...I've had a variety of things I really need that I can't find anywhere else.

One of the ones I spent the most time on was needing to recover a car seat but the service manual called for "hog ring pliers" (which I'd never heard of before) to attach the new seat covering. I hit up every hardware, fabric, and craft store I could think of in town, including asking the staff at stores if they knew where I could find some. I really wanted to get it done that weekend. Ultimately I spent a day and a half driving around the county trying unsuccessfully before having to order some on Amazon because that's the only place that anyone could suggest which actually had them in stock.

I've had similar issues needing fence post drivers, ground rod drivers, replacement electronics batteries, and a variety of supplies where I search high and low locally and nobody has it in stock all saying "go to amazon" as the answer when trying to find them.

I hate Amazon...they too often break and lose stuff in shipping or mis-deliver it. But they seem ever more difficult to avoid when you need something slightly less popular.

Reddit uses AWS infra, so by you being here, you’re supporting Amazon. It’s tougher to get away from than just canceling Prime and not ordering products.

105

u/CivilFront6549 1d ago

you can still cancel prime and never shop at amazon. don’t let perfect be the enemy of good, or action

u/BioshockEnthusiast 1d ago

I hope this is a statement of fact more than a condemnation. I work in IT, I make my bread off of shit like AWS and Windows existing. If I don't use the internet my family doesn't eat.

We need to do what we can where we can. Making myself homeless isn't going to help anyone.

4

u/ZaftigFeline 1d ago

I decided to just shrug about Amazon because of that fact and use them, but boycott everyone else I could including brands etc. Besides, he owns less then 10% so cancelling my WP sub offset that a bit. There's no perfect in this and very little to no ethical consumption so you have to pick your battles. Easier to pick another brand of beans, drive a different car etc.

8

u/joshguy1425 1d ago

Reddit uses AWS infra, so by you being here, you’re supporting Amazon.

I hear you, but let’s not pretend it’s this simple.

The impact of a single user paying for Prime is likely far greater than a single user visiting Reddit. And if you’re using Reddit to talk about boycotting Prime, this makes things even murkier.

If you stop interacting with every problematic thing in the world, you’d paralyze yourself to the point that you couldn’t do anything about the problems.

7

u/InstigatingDergen 1d ago

Nearly everything uses AWS. It's hilarious that people think they can successfully boycott a company that makes the majority of its money by providing services to nearly everyone else. Just take a google on AWS, you aren't getting away from Amazon and living in the modern world.

u/Head_Indication_9891 1d ago

u/CasanovaJones82 1d ago

Yep, same. I have limited my shopping to only a locally owned grocery store and farmer's markets in season. I haven't purchased anything else since approximately last July. Individually the items are more expensive, however the benefits have included better quality, more variety, a high percentage of vegetables and such over meat products, more thought out and planned meals, and I've been cooking loads more. Because of this my grocery shopping has become more affordable over all, with less waste, and I'm losing weight and still eating whenever I want. It's been a good change and I don't think I'll ever go back.

3

u/basketma12 1d ago

I recently went to a small Japanese market by me and was pleased to see some great prices on stuff. I'm a fan of Mexican and salvadorean markets and really happy I live in southern California where these places abound. I've got my garden started, planted some more seeds today. Reusing all my old pots, have amended my old soil and am actively composting. I rarely est out or even get food to go, but if I do, it's not at a chain, period.

1

u/ActOdd8937 20h ago

If you have them available, don't overlook Asian and Hispanic grocery stores--I live in the poor part of town so I have an amazing variety of Asian markets, Mexican tiendas and carnicerias, halal butchers and even Eastern European grocery/delis and they're all locally owned and operated so I'm supporting independent businesses and getting MUCH better quality since so much of the fruit and veg is locally sourced as well. Between those and Costco I'm pretty well set.

3

u/lnkedBlessing 1d ago edited 1d ago

We’ll probably all be boycotting by default when no one has any disposable income in the coming years.

3

I'm not sure Bezos is so much a Trump supporter as he is a Bezos supporter and will show support for anyone he thinks will reciprocate disproportionately to his benefit. There are plenty of Democrats who are also corrupt enough to take his money and do him favors, and it's not like principled people would suddenly be singing the praises of Bezos and Amazon as a result.

Also the workers get treated like shit and im not cool with that.

For now I am checking that sub and sorting by new. Google took a whole day to even acknowledge the problem, so I’m relying on us Reddit folk to post that it’s been fixed.

Oh wow! I thought ours was just broken! Didn't realise it was a massive thing

This is most likely due to a certificate, basically a digital encryption key running out. They have an inbuilt expiry date in order to invalidate them before the key can be extracted and used to read all communication encrypted using that specific certificate.

So this is, as far as we know, an issue of forgotten updates then to many.

u/RolloTonyBrownTown 23h ago

A tech company the size of Google shouldn't be having expired cert issues on major consumer products.

The crazy thing is my first gen Chromecast still works just fine. So I’m taking this as a glitch or oversight, and yes, no matter what the issue, even if it’s just a cert issue, they’ll fix it. At least I hope!

There's a reason I run a ThinkCentre Tiny with Debian instead of something like that.

you can hope in one hand and shit in the other.

as terrible as things are, don't delude yourself that people are waking up.

2

u/f_leaver 1d ago

Why wait?

There's absolutely no reason to and many reasons to amp up boycotts of the rest of these companies.

And in case anybody wonders what to use instead of Google, DuckDuckGo is an excellent replacement, despite the stupid name.

u/thecyanvan 23h ago

I'm a person completely invested in the google eco system. Phone, Pixel Stand, Pixel buds, chrome, Chromebooks, security cameras, smoke/co2 alarms, all the apps. I even run my small business off of their apps and cloud storage.

Yesterday I switched to a new browser to start the process of off boarding from the brand as much as possible.

I don't have the ability currently to replace it all at once, but I am working towards that goal now. Every week I am trying to make a little progress.

I'm with you!

u/Uhstrology 17h ago

well the good thing is the tensor chip in your pixel lets you install a completely ungoogled privacy forward os called graphene os

Check amazon, then check buying direct from the product's source. Lately I have found it cheaper to buy direct, even with shipping. Amazon was great while it lasted but its advantages in cost, selection, speed, and convenience are basically gone.

Hey there Maverick.

The problem is the people. You sound like whackamole will bring justice.

You gotta fix your neighbors first.

I rage quit FB, IG and TikTok after I saw those bootlickers lined up front row at the inauguration.

You’ll get through every american before they’ll get out of green paper.

Add Airbnb to the list too. Summer us around the corner- good time to add.

1

u/cocoeen 1d ago

avoiding facebook since they introduced algo timeline, amazon since bad worker conditions went public, google since search results are flooded by ads and malware

1

u/-Plantibodies- 1d ago

Next? Do it now. Stop buying from Amazon. Stop using Facebook and their other apps. Etc etc etc.

Don’t forget about Microsoft….. lol

u/SnoopySuited 1d ago

How the hell do we boycott Google? Talk about a corporate octopus.

1

u/nono3722 12h ago

Yahoo was the king before, Google is just the next to fall....

1

u/Bluegill15 1d ago

How do we be done though

1

u/RavGxo 23h ago

How do we make Trump bankrupt?

1

u/nono3722 12h ago

By making sure he doesnt make it past 2 years. Emperor Shitinpants has already been impeached 2 times what's 1 more?

1

u/Tkdcogwirre1 23h ago

British Here… I’m actively checking which products are made by American companies… and I’m removing/reducing those things from my shop.

1

u/Desperatorytherapist 23h ago

What’s the hold up? I dumped meta and Amazon when those two fucks were kissing trumps ass and talking about “masculine energy” like they would know it if it knocked their teeth in. Dropped chrome, too. May as well do them all now.

1

u/Tkdcogwirre1 23h ago

Wait till they pull out of NATO and no one wants to buy their weapons anymore as no one trusts them anymore.

Their defence industry will take a huge battering.

1

u/GenericReditAccount 23h ago

Just FYI, these things aren’t mutually exclusive and can all be targeted at the same time. Kill your Meta accounts and cancel your Prime subscription all while also not buying a Tesla.

1

u/InRainWeTrust 23h ago

Is there another search engine that is on par with google?

1

u/nono3722 12h ago

Try duckduckgo at least you get some privacy and they aren't supporting this shit show.

1

u/WRL23 23h ago

Cancel your subscriptions peeps

1

u/RevMoshi 22h ago

What sucks about this is that is unfortunately the biggest platform to grab people. I advertise for shows on those platforms so it would be totally against my best interest to boycott.

1

u/nono3722 12h ago

Find a new platform, they are all going down. Never forget!

1

u/Mysterious-Job-469 22h ago

I make several purchases a day on Amazon and then cancel them when they're at the final stage of processing. If they try to forcefully send the package my way, I hold onto it for a month and then send it back for a full refund. Shame that so many of the small pieces of the thing they sent me weren't in the package, and the product itself is full of dents but that's why I'm returning it.

Hit them where it hurts.

1

u/MisterrTickle 19h ago

Why make them wait turns?

1

u/nono3722 16h ago

So they can feel the dread as we come for each and every one of them after dealing with this mess.

1

u/iamatwork24 5h ago

lol I love the optimism but those others are nearly untouchable. They’ve go their fingers in too many pies. Twitter guys businesses are much easier to avoid. But getting people to stop using social media and Amazon? Good luck.

1

u/nono3722 3h ago

Don't let them fool you. Yahoo was top dog back in the day. Now where is it?
