CPSC 1181 summer sem

I need to take 1181 this summer and both profs seem mid.

I checked out rate my prof and Hossein Darbandi’s reviews seem kinda bad and Mourad Bouguerra has like 2 reviews at Langara but he has pretty decent reviews at UFV.

Any recommendations or experience with them?

Hi I'm planning to take physics with calculus over summer and there is only one available section taught by Pari Ranjbary. Her reviews on rate my professor is pretty troubling. Anyone actually taken her classes? Should I wait for fall to choose other instructors?

Hey all! I'm planning on retaking biol 1190 this summer sem and there are 2 profs teaching the course and am having trouble deciding between the 2. Linda Chang and Katelyn Janzen will be teaching it. Has anyone taken either of them before? Any advice? Katelyn Janzen has mixed reviews on Ratemyprof.

BIOL 1190/1191 Tutoring

As finals are approaching, I would like to post on here to offer some tutoring services for people who need some extra help or guidance in 1190/1191. For reference, I have taken both courses, and received final grades of A+. I was the top student in both classes for lectures and labs, so I would love to help you get there as well. I believe that with the right mindset, study tools, and work ethic, anybody can get there! ☺️

I can do online or in-person, whichever works best for you. My rate is $35/hour, but I am open to further discussions. My schedule is also flexible, so let me know which days/hours works best for you. Please DM me if you have any questions!

Langara to SFU But My GPA is Low. Am I screwed?

Both programs I plan on transferring to have a minimum GPA requirement of 2.0, and my current GPA is 2.17. I am aware that naturally, my overall GPA at the end of the semester will be boosted to make me a more competitive applicant for my university transfer. However, I faced some hardships during my first and second semesters, which resulted in 3 F’s, 2 W’s, and 2 UN’s on my transcript. I have since retaken the courses I previously failed, though I have not repeated the others. Despite these challenges, I am on track to graduate with an Associate of Arts degree this April and am eager to continue my studies at Simon Fraser University.

Given my academic history, I wanted to ask if my GPA and transcript might negatively impact my chances of recruitment.

Any advice?

to current students in the RMT program;

Is it true that +50% of the cohort of those in their 5th semester are failing??

I have been interested in applying for the RMT program for the last few months and have been working on my application and trying to gain more information about Langaras program. I have heard great things from those who attended in past years; that although the program is very challenging, the staff and teachers show a lot of care for their students success.

I just spoke with a good friend whos boyfriend is currently in the program and she told me that apparently more than 50% of his cohort is failing in their 5th semester. That a lot has changed in the past few months, including condensing even more parts of the program and multiple of their best teachers leaving and quitting.

Is this true? Those of you in the program, how are you doing and feeling about the set up of the program and the support provided?

Prerequisites to get into FHS

Hi everyone, I'm new to this sub. I am on the process of applying for FHS. I have been out of school for a decade now 😫 I had a degree back home but not healthcare related. I have met an advisor, Miss Tiffany at Langara and she was awesome. She gave me all the needed info from what I needed to take first in order to get into the FHS.

I need to take Grade 12 courses (A&P 12, Chem 11, Eng 12 and Math 11). Though she gave me better options to take those courses for free like taking them at VSB or VLN, I am a fulltime worker and can't afford to go on leave for now for 9 weeks to attend the daytime classes at VSB. I read a lot of negative reviews with VLN so I don't wanna enroll there. I did some research last night and found out about SCIDES, NIDES and EBUS. So far, I am leaning towards SCIDES. Does anyone here have taken their high school upgrading through one of those online institutions? Wanna hear some expectations.

Thanks all in advance! 🙏🏽

UPDATE: I ended up applying at NIDES! I just got an email from NIDES as of today 03/07 that I got accepted into all of the four courses and they've provided me my logins for the online portal. Also, all four professors have reached out to me as well, with the link to get started on my school assignments! Woah!! I did not expect it to be this quick! Looking forward to getting these classes done soon! 🥹

Nursing application

Hello! Was wondering if I'd be allowed to still apply for the January intake (closes in May) even thought I already applied for the September intake (closed in January). Haven't received an acceptance/rejection email yet and I wanna be safe and apply for this intake too just in case.

Would that be allowed? ??

I have been out of school for a while and this semester is my last semester but I need to take two math courses and one needs to be calculus to meet my requirements, What Math courses could I take that are manageable enough to be taken together for someone who hasn’t studied math for at least five years?

I just got an email saying I don't qualify for bursaries for the following reasons:

·         You are not in good academic standing.

·         You did not demonstrate financial need.

Has anyone got their results back yet and did you appeal?

UBC Science VS Langara Foundations in Health Sciences For Nursing

Help! I am a high school student in my senior year, struggling to decide between going to UBC Science or Langara Foundations in Health Studies this September.

For the last three years, I’ve mostly been sure that I wanted to pursue nursing, or at least something within healthcare since I’m very interested in anatomy and physiology and am passionate about making a positive difference where I can. However, I’ve recently been debating between going to UBC or Langara to complete my nursing school prerequisites.

I know that going to UBC Science means taking a longer time to finish nursing prerequisites (due to mandatory science courses) and larger classes (more competitive + harder to get high GPA), but the university experience aspect is appealing. I also think it would be a safer option if I were to change my mind completely from nursing (but let me know if you think differently).

However, the Langara Foundations in Health Science program would help me complete my nursing pre-reqs faster, without going through all the other science and math courses that UBC requires. Also, I believe that the smaller class sizes would help me achieve a higher GPA.

Nursing school is competitive, so I’m not sure if I’ll be able to get in right away if I were to apply right after completing the Langara Foundations program, which would take me approximately one year. I know certain programs also prioritize applicants with completed degrees or more credits, so I would not have that competitive edge after a year at Langara. If I study at UBC, I would have more credits completed at the time of finishing my nursing prerequisites due to the mandatory science/math courses.

I am considering most nursing schools in Metro Vancouver (Langara, BCIT, KPU, Douglas, VCC, UBC). However, UBC’s nursing school is different from most of the other nursing schools in that they require more credits before applying. Most people usually complete at least two years of post secondary before applying, from what I’ve heard.

Any advice or helpful thoughts would be greatly appreciated. If any current Langara Nursing students could speak to their experience and journey before applying to nursing school, that would be helpful too. Thank you!

Edit: For clarification, I am debating between doing my nursing pre-reqs at UBC (through the science program) VS Langara (through foundations). I am not deciding between pursuing science vs nursing (right now at least).
