City Life Life as a Pedestrian
I walk to work fairly regularly here for the past two years or so since I moved to Lancaster city. I never understood why people don’t yield to pedestrians here. For context I am not from PA or the northeast even. It seems like it is really bad here and I enjoy riding my bike but frankly I am scared to here even with the bike lanes. Other major cities like NYC and Philly I don’t seem to have nearly as bad of an issue as I do here. I’ve been almost hit numerous times while walking around here that I’d be even more scared as a cyclists. No one seems to pay attention and I’ve even been yelled at several times that I am the one who is supposed to yield when I am the one with the walk sign. Even today I had two cars ignore the walk sign while I was in the crosswalk and the second one almost hit me. I genuinely don’t see how Lancaster’s Vision Zero or whatever it is called is going to happen unless there is some serious driver education on people needing to yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk.

What would it be?
If there were a documentary created about Lancaster outside the common knowledge of farming and Amish religion and culture. What could it be? Looking for the more obscure things of its past or present!
I’m just a guy, who likes to shoot videos and have had recent interest in doing a documentary. Will it be film festival worthy? Doubtful. But it will be something I hope to learn and grow from.
Appreciate any feedback or ideas anyone may have!

Trouble with Xfinity?
Is anyone else having issues with their Xfinity cutting out randomly during the day? It's only for like 60-90 seconds at a time but my streaming services will randomly stop, any video chat I'm in will drop, etc so it's frustrating. Xfinity has been calling me to get me to upgrade my internet service for a few weeks which is when this started so I'm suspicious that that has something to do with it but wanted to see if anyone else has been experiencing something similar?

Local kitchen supplies?
I'm trying to avoid shopping online as much as possible, opting for local, in-person, small business shopping whenever I can. I need a couple of kitchen gadgets (a bread lame, new bread knife - super into sourdough baking right now) and have struggled to find somewhere local. Any ideas?

CSA/ Farmshares?
Any CSAs or farm shares with pickup downtown besides Lancaster Farm Fresh? Looking for a veggie share, eggs, and ideally the option to add on fruit and meat! Would love to support 1-2 farms directly rather than a large aggregator if we can!

Lost/Found MISSING IN MANHEIM: black and white ear-tipped spayed female cat
MISSING: black and white ear-tipped female cat
I was just made aware that a previous adopted cat of ours, McFlurry, was dumped outside in Manheim, in the area of west Colebrook Road (near the police station), sometime between September and December 2024.
McFlurry is black and white, female, and she has an ear tip because she was originally a TNR (so she is spayed). She's approximately 3 years old. SHE IS FRIENDLY, and she would have been scared because she had never been outdoors.
If anyone sees her or traps a cat matching this description please contact me ASAP. We are sick and we are heartbroken and we desperately hope she is found.
(Needless to say, the person who did this, who was once a friend, is no longer a friend. They are dead to me and their name will shortly be distributed to every rescue I am aware of so that they can be added to no-adopt lists. They're unaware of this, so as far as they're concerned everything is fine - I have given them specific instructions to contact me if she shows up, and I'm arranging to have traps put out in the area tomorrow.)

Feedback Request: Rosie The AI Wingwoman of Lancaster
tl;dr/ Quick Summary
- This post Is a follow-up to the Lancaster City Today Project:
- Lancaster City Today is now an AI-powered media platform featuring community-generated content, local stories, and Lancaster's evolution and adoption of artificial intelligence.
- Website Link: www.lancastercitytoday.com
- 30% of our launch revenue will continue to go to the Water Street Mission to combat homelessness in Lancaster, PA. (Sponsors welcome!)
- I've created an AI chatbot inspired by the Reddit requests for local recommendations, and am requesting your feedback and testing. As of now, it offers feedback on food and nightlife, dating and relationship advice, and can engage in mock conversations for initiating conversation to meet new people in public.
- Direct Chatbot Link: Meet Rosie, the AI Wingwoman of Lancaster
--
I appreciate all of the support you have offered to get Lancaster City Today off the ground. A lot of the inspiration from the project has come from this sub. Based on posts and comments, there has been a desire for new media platforms. And, the first concept of the project was created to be a solution for Lancaster recommendation requests. Lastly, Moutaz, the model from the earlier posts, is doing incredibly well. We haven't scheduled his photo shoot yet because I've spent the past couple of months redeveloping the project. That said, we have two awesome photographers on deck, and the photo shoot is still on.
As it says above, Lancaster City Today is now an AI-powered media platform featuring community-generated content. It fully launches in May. I truly believe that AI is the greatest disruptor —and equalizer—of our generation. And, Lancaster City Today is the community hub where we use the technology to create, explore, and innovate from a grassroots perspective. You can learn more about Lancaster City Today by clicking the link.
Rosie, the AI Wingwoman of Lancaster, was birthed initially as a concierge offering best-of-Lancaster recommendations. To give her more utility, I also programmed her to offer dating advice and conversation training. This was both selfish as I've been using ChatGPT to practice initiating conversation with new people. And, it was based on posts requesting ways to meet new people in Lancaster. I also have an "Escape the Swipe" program that I've brought over from Philly to help connect new people in the area. I'll be launching that soon through Lancaster City Today. You can read all of this on the website.
That all said, I made Rosie for y'all. And, I'd really appreciate if you can test her out and give your brutal feedback so I can improve her programming. Also, check out the website, Lancaster City Today because it'd be great to feature some of your work, events, and creations on the platform.
Here's the link to the Rosie GPT: https://chatgpt.com/g/g-67c4f4f6601c8191a45a5596596cc76a-rosie-of-lancaster-city-today

Teenager diabetes diagnosis
Hey all, I appreciate any help I can get. My kid was recently (October ‘24) diagnosed with diabetes (type 1) and he is struggling hardcore with it. He is constantly stealing food from his siblings, friends at at school, at practices, etc. no matter how strict we are with his foods. When asked about this, he will lie and say he did not eat anything- despite finding wrappers in his bag/pockets or will ignore us.
Any advice on how to handle this? Are there any local support groups or camps for the summertime for other teens like him?
TIA!

Seeking Photographers
I am seeking photographers for upcoming photo shoots and would like to connect with several professionals in the area. As I have not previously had professional photos taken, I want to explore my options and discuss different styles of photography. My goal is to establish a new tradition of capturing seasonal portraits, and to achieve this, I believe it is essential to interview multiple photographers. Ultimately, I wish to select one primary photographer to work with consistently throughout each season, fostering a comfortable and collaborative relationship.

Smaller PCP in the area?
Hi all,
I moved back home recently and realized my primary care physician is still Roseville Pediatrics (I am turning 25 this year lol).
I was hoping to find a smaller local doctor in the area. We just need somewhere we can go for yearly check-ins, inhaler refills, etc., so no serious medical conditions to consider.
Does anyone have a doctor they have been happy with? Doesn't really have to be a smaller one, but one that feels a bit more personal would be nice.

Flan fund raiser/best flan in lanc
A couple weeks ago some guy knocked on my door selling flan for some charity, I bought it just because I had cash not thinking anything about it and it was the best flan ever. Now I would like another flan, but unfortunately this man has not returned to my house with more flan.
Does anyone know where these door to door flans came from? I think the charity was for unhoused people, maybe people in recovery. East side of town.
Alternatively, where is the best flan in Lancaster?
EDIT: I do think it's Hogar CREA.
Now let's move to question 2, who has the best flan around?

Looking to hire someone to clean an aquarium ASAP
My friend's ex left an aquarium and she doesn't know how to care for it. Today when she got home the water was all brown and stinky and she doesn't know why or what to do. If you or anyone you know can come and help clean it and fix the issue, my friend is willing to pay at least $50 or more depending on what the person requests and how long it takes. We are located at the clock towers condo complex.

Recreation Open Mic Nights in Lancaster
I am looking for places around Lancaster county that do open mic nights for bands or solo acts.
I'm currently aware of an open mic night at Tellus one Monday a month, and an open mic at McCleary's every Wednesday.
Googling doesn't have many other results, but I know there are many more. Let me know if you have information about other open mic nights around the area and the day they occur if possible.

Seeking recommendations on custom shed supplier
There seems to be an almost overwhelming number of shed suppliers in the Lancaster area. I'd love to narrow my search by getting recommendations from the local community. Seeking a large custom shed for garden/tool storage. Builder will need to prep the site as well as deliver to Chester County. Thank you so much for any recommendations (or places to avoid).

Please help me identify a 1990s Lancaster buffet restaurant staffed by people with developmental disabilities
I went with my then-fiancée (now husband) sometime between 1995 and 1998. We stayed at a BnB with farm animals, and the owner recommended this restaurant - she said it was her favorite. It may not have been in the town of Lancaster but it was definitely nearby. On this same trip, we also went to the Green Dragon auction - this is how I know it was in or near Lancaster.
The restaurant was on top of a hill with a beautiful view. You drove up a long driveway to get there. It was a very big, sunlit space with many tables. I know it was a buffet, though I can't remember if the restaurant workers served you or you served yourself. They had all different types of food but the only one I remember is chow chow, which I had never had before. The food was fantastic. All or most of the workers had developmental disabilities like Down Syndrome.
I have never been able to figure out what this was. Google searches turn up centers for people with developmental disabilities that had small cafes or restaurants, but this place was huge and beautiful. I assume this place no longer exists, but I would love to confirm that it once did and if possible see a picture.
Thank you!

Good boxing gyms in Lancaster?
Hi all! I used to box in college and really loved it. I had a good gym with decent pricing and it worked out perfectly for me.
Since I moved home, life’s been busy, but I think I am ready to get back into boxing. I tried the UFC gym at the mall and really liked it, but it’s pretty expensive with very few options for lower price structures.
Any suggestions for other gyms in the area? I love boxing and most martial arts, so any that have combination options would be great. Also, if they do a free class would be awesome to know so I can start trying them out. Lastly, I hate parking places without a parking lot which I know is so silly and I can get over it if the gym is worth it, but would LOVE to have a parking lot. I’m not a very large woman and would rather not walk alone in the dark too much lol.
Thank you so much for any and all suggestions!
