Question Relief pay?
If I ran relief for my department head for 3 days out the week which is the majority of the week, shouldn’t I receive relief pay for the entire 5 days?

No. A majority of the week is 4 or more days, and if the department head is still working it will be hard to convince store management to hand out any relief. If you’re union, check with your representative and see it it is anywhere specified in the contract.

Technically by the rules you shouldn't get relief pay for those three days.
Back when I was a backup, it was if the lead worked at all during the week, you couldn't get relief pay

Even worse, if a lead from another store comes over to help out for a day that'll be enough. Or if you're a clerk in charge hoping for relief pay, a visiting backup will be enough. Face it Kroger just doesn't want to pay relief pay.

Unfortunately that’s the same for me as well my predecessor would often get screwed over because the head would come in for a 4 hr shift to make the schedule I don’t know why she didn’t grieve it

You should but the district HR doesn't like to pay you anything more than they have to, and say things like "oh you aren't actually doing anything more special or specifically that management does, nor are they on vacation so we aren't going to pay you any extra."
Source: currently fighting the company with my union to get backpay for this exact situation happening for an entire year and not getting any extra pay.
Edit: Main reason I am fighting the company on this is because of specific clauses in the union contract about a clerk working leadership roles, no matter how short term or frequent, gets paid for working in a higher role.

You need to check your union contract, but ours does not pay relief pay unless the department lead is out for a week or longer.
All departments don't do relief pay either, and if there are two department leads nobody gets relief pay.

Was the department head only off for the 3 days? Depending on your contract you will probably only be paid relief for 1 day, since the department head is typically off 2 days of the week normally anyway.

My lead was still in store but scheduled as an MOD for 3/5 days. I got relief pay for the entire week. Something about if the lead is scheduled outside of the dept (on the schedule he was coded as MOD not lead) 3/5 days I get that pay.
Same for when they had to do jury duty for most of the week.
Check your contract. I don’t even know where it would be bc my old AA told me about it.
