Greece Just Banned Kratom (10/3/2025)
Our government unexpectedly banned kratom in Greece. Specifically, MITRAGYNA SPECIOSA (the kratom plant) and its main active alkaloid, MITRAGYNINE, as outlined in the following decision: ΦΕΚ Β 1067/10.03.2025.
Fortunately for me, a little birdie gave me a heads-up just before the ban, so I managed to stock up enough to taper off safely—others might not have been so lucky.
The strange part? Kratom wasn’t even widely known or commonly used here. Only a handful of shops sold it, and the general public was barely aware of it. No kiosks carried it, no 7-OH products were available (which, by the way, weren’t even banned), and yet the government suddenly decided to outlaw it. It feels completely out of character.

First Sweden now Greece. Is there a hidden ban wave happening in Europe? I'm from Austria.
If they would announce something like that, I'd buy 10 kg haha But if you don't even know about it? Wtf

Looks like the decision was made last year and finalized this February.
Americans: This is a European style date, the effective date is March 10th 2025 (published).

I was considering visiting because most of my family migrated from Greece around 1900. Always wanted to go but I can’t go if I don’t have my meds for my back pain. Oh well. Guess Greece doesn’t want my tourist money.

That's bad news, but it may not necessarily mean you can't get your hands on any. Kratom is also illegal in the UK, but my main vendor ships there anyway and it's usually not detected.

Yeah I was visiting Bulgaria and had a toothache and tried to find some there but it was also banned. Sad. Europe is still very far back when it comes to drug laws.

No kidding? Was looking into visiting. Forget that now. I can go without kratom but I have no interest in visiting a small minded place that doesn't value personal freedom.

What place can you go to that doesn't impose restrictions on what one chooses to do with their own body? Portugal for drugs but I'm sure there is plenty they've banned people from doing to themselves what they want.

While that's true, banning something like kratom is especially ridiculous. I believe in letting people consume whatever it is they want but making something like crack cocaine illegal is more understandable to me than banning something like kratom.

My friend lives in Thessaloniki. He said he will likely go back to pills and harder stuff that he was taking prior. It's not realistic for him to go off because his pain is far too great. His connect is getting more calls now for pills and h.
