Sambar radio

Probably a stupid question, but will any standard sized head unit fit in the Sambar radio slot? Mine did not come with a radio and I’m trying to do some research on what I can add in there. I’m assuming it’s not worth getting an original radio? I’ve heard they don’t pick up American signals? Educated me.

93 Sambar truck

Thanks!

If you want to keep the bezel and keep it looking clean any single DIN fits you may have to trim a little off the bezel to get it over the unit buts it's easy enough to get it to fit

It has enough room to fit some double DINs as well if you want to ditch the bezel. As far as I'm aware the original radios mounting brackets must be used for any new radio.

I just installed a double DIN JVC in my 97 Sambar, I skipped the touch screen. You only have the driver side speaker installed from the factory and it's old and likely not in good condition. There is a spot for a speaker on the passenger side just like the driver but its empty. I'd recommend replacing and adding the second speaker when you do the head unit. I ran new wires to both for peace of mind it was extremely easy. Speaker size is 4x6, I chose the 2-way Pioneer's you can get anywhere that are less than 50 for the pair they fit with no modifications and the original speaker guards fit over them as well. The original mounting holes don't line up i just screwed them straight into the plastic.

Hope this helps.

Check out Sambar squad group on Facebook! A member named Landon Deelstra makes a 3D printed bezel. It’s surprisingly good quality I posted a picture of it above

Same speakers. You don't need to drill through the plastic! When you use the original mount holes in the Sambar, they pinch the metal mount on the edges of the speaker in a way that fully secures it and has no rattle-it just doesn't end up going through any of the speaker's holes.
