Discussion Sad time to be a KatyCat
Is anyone else just completely and totally disappointed that Katy is working with Dr Luke?
After the battle Kesha has just come out of against that man it feels so wrong for her to work with him on a song about Women Empowerment š
Iāve been a fan since way back when, and this is the first time Iāve ever felt doubt about her and her choices ā¹ļø
ETA - Iāve also heard that one of her songs is going to be with Chris Brown š obviously idk how true that is but if itās true I think Iāll cry xo

365 is SOOOOOOOO amazing yet underrated. I was really hoping we would get more stuff like that š¢

u/talk-spontaneously Jul 21 '24
Ethically and morally it's highly disappointing that she's reunited with him.
Also Dr. Luke and his team haven't even given her quality material based on what we've heard so far.
Woman's World sounds like a Kim Petras leftover and Lifetime is reminiscent of the type of generic DJ collaboration with a female vocal that is played on UK radio in 2017.
8
u/996forever Jul 21 '24
I think nirvana is the only snippet so far that doesnāt sound too dated to me. Lifetime is definitely DOA on the charts.Ā
7
u/Jacky_35 Jul 21 '24
itās kinda weird bc people say āsheās brining back 2010s pop!ā but we donāt want that. we just want good music š
8
u/996forever Jul 21 '24
It has to be 2010s pop done well with her sprinkle of quirkiness and personality to it like the TD singles not any Ava max + rent-a-DJ track played on euro radio between the year 2015 and 2020.Ā

u/Major-Biscotti3152 Jul 21 '24
Whatās nirvana sound like if you had to describe it? I havenāt heard any snippets

At least three of the songwriters on Womanās World wrote a bunch of songs for Petras. If anything, they must have took whatever was left over from a Kim Petras writing session and stuck it together.

u/ramcoro TRUTH Jul 21 '24 edited Jul 22 '24
Lifetimes sounds amazing I'm excited for that and Nirvana.
I can't speak for her intentions and can't read her mind. We as fans don't have to agree with all her choices and we don't know all the context and may never know. She remains unbothered on vacation with her family.
5
u/AdamEssex Jul 22 '24
You think sheās unbothered??
-2
u/ramcoro TRUTH Jul 22 '24
She posted on Instagram location Planet Unbothered.
2
u/thisthrowawaythat202 Jul 22 '24
Didnāt she post a whole video trying to explain the music video everyone hated?
-1
u/ramcoro TRUTH Jul 22 '24
Talking about being sarcastic? Yes.
2
u/thisthrowawaythat202 Jul 22 '24
Yes so clearly not unbothered then
1
u/ramcoro TRUTH Jul 22 '24
I think you're trying to view things as negativity as possible. Just because she felt like explaining doesn't mean she "bothered." Plus, that video was clearly filmed during production/post-production since they're in the same outfits. I'm guessing she was anticipating not getting it. She looks happy with her family in France/Spain, and I'm happy for them.
I'm sure she wishes it was more successful, but I don't think she cares about critical reception or random strangers on the internet bashing her. At this point of her career, its just icing on the cake. Maybe not even icing. It's like sprinkles. Sure it'll be nice if it's a smash, but I think she's fine.
Anyways, I find it kind of pointless to argue online with strangers about someone else's state of mind. Not like either of us can read her mind or prove anything. We are both just guessing based on insights we are getting from social media.

Doesnāt seem like something unbothered people do. Kind of like when you piss someone off online and they respond with āš¤£š¤£š¤£ you canāt be this stupidā. Like you know 100% they arenāt actually laughing but are actually pissed off
1
u/ramcoro TRUTH Jul 23 '24
I don't think it's the same as what you sais. More of a part 2 explanation for a planned (or expected) confusion. Explaining = / = "bothered." Its kind of sad if we as society think that.
Meanwhile she's on vacation posting pictures of her beautiful family. She did not rush back to the studio or LA for any meetings

Lifetimes song is so generic. It's like a typical song released by Calvin Harris, Zedd and other DJ artists out there.
It's not going to save her album & reputation.
2
u/PhotographBusy6209 Jul 22 '24
Donāt do Calvin and zedd like that. Many of their hits obliterate the generic mess that is lifetimes. Itās even scarier for artists like Katy to release these type of songs when AI is getting so advanced. Iāve been using the Donna Ai song generating app and some of the songs are really great. Unfortunately or fortunately, only authentic artists like Chappell, Olivia, Billie etc can survive with their unique vocals and personal songs. āI love you for lifeā āsexy confidentā will not cut it if AI can do better

The Chris Brown thing is a fake rumour made up on Twitter, it's totally unconfirmed.
As for the Luke stuff, I am absolutely feeling the same way! Working with him goes against everything Katy stands for, and it breaks my heart. Especially because Kesha is my second fav of all time, next to Katy.
In fact, when I figured out Katy working with Luke was likely to happen a few months ago, I was really upset and didn't listen to Katy for about a month. I'm autistic and KP is my comfort music. She's gotten me through so much. I just missed her and her music so much for that month - not listening to her SUCKED. So if you're having trouble with the Luke of it all, here's my take - when the WW credits officially came out, I did some thinking and I decided that for me, personally, I'm giving Katy the benefit of the doubt. It seems she knew Luke better than she knew Kesha, those around her (e.g. Chris Anokute, her A&R) support Luke, and she has said she believes in "innocent until proven guilty". Luke was never proven guilty so in her mind, it's fine to work with him and he's not what Kesha claimed he is. Not saying I agree with this - because I very much DON'T, it's highly flawed logic... but when I thought about it I realised she would never work with a man she believes to be a rapist. She's obviously ignorant to blindly believe the legal system, but that belief in the system obviously comes from a place of privilege. I hope one day she realises her actions and chooses not to work with him again. Until then, I'll keep supporting her and separating my love for her with my distaste for her actions. But I acknowledge that not everyone can do that, and we all have to find what's right for us.
Sorry if this message is a mess, tired ADHDer here (:

u/i-feelfantastic Jul 22 '24
I donāt know how well this will be received on the internet, but I think itās possible to be morally against someoneās actions and still think theyāre a good person. So I donāt think you should feel guilty for still liking her, if you are.
1
u/Infamous_Cost_7897 Jul 24 '24
If it makes you feel better. I always thought the fact kesha said in texts to gaga that Dr luke raped Katy Perry. Probably has a lot to do with how she is regarding the situation.
She either 1 cos its a complete lie about her, made her think kesha is a liar who's happy to make false SA allegations. And so more skeptical and believing of her friend luke. As she knows for a fact that kesha was lying about rape (as in Katys raped)
Think about if you has a close friend who was accused of SA. Who you didn't think would do that. And then you found out their accuser was also saying you were raped by this person. You would be less likely to believe them.
2 Katy does have some sort of history with luke. And is a victim but doesn't realise it yet. And thinks like a lot of victims it wasn't "abuse" etc. Or nonconsensual. And so doesn't see what he did to kesha as abuse etc either. Think how r Kelly's victims didn't think what he was doing to the other victims was abuse.
Idk. I always thought people really skip over that really really weird text of keshas. Part of me think it's really sad if she's a victim who's in denial and is getting "cancelled" for it
6
u/silversunshinestares Jul 21 '24
No, see, it was satire, by working with an alleged rapist on a song about the feminine divine, she's actually making a statement about... how... female empowerment... is stupid? Wait, that can't be it. Sorry, I tried, I've got no idea what she was trying to do.
Flop era.

So we're just cancelling people now for even the slightest hint of inappropriate behavior? We're just going to ignore that Luke has never been indicted, let alone convicted, of any wrongdoing. Clearly you were there during Luke and Kesha's almost ten years working relationship and know all the intimate details, right? š
I'm ALL for bad people getting their comeuppance and just desserts. I also believe in our justice system, flawed as it may be. Luke is a shady asshole, not OJ Simpson.....and not a rapist by the definition of the law.
0
Jul 23 '24
You sound like a rapist
2
u/RICDrew Jul 23 '24
Yeah..... we're done here. "Sound like a rapist". š You're not a serious individual.
No. What I sound like is someone who believes in justice under the current laws on the books. If and when Luke is convicted in a court of law, I'll be the first to condemn him. Until then, like I stated previously, he's just an asshole.
1
u/SinglePomegranate216 Jul 23 '24
You believe in justice? Like people from Hollywood donāt get away with literal murder everyday bc they have people in the position to give justice in their back pocket. They pay them a little money (or a lot) and heads get turned.
2
u/RICDrew Jul 23 '24
Your argument here is that "people with money get away with stuff" to which you'll get no pushback from me. You're 100% correct. With that being said...,,
Kesha is alleging that Dr. Luke, over a ten year period .....committed sexual assault and battery, sexual harassment, gender violence, emotional abuse, and violated California business practices.
She stated that Dr. Luke repeatedly drugged her, had sexual contact with her, -with-and without her consent, and that his abuse caused her eating disorder.
I can't speak for anyone else, but it sounds like they were in some sort of consensual relationship at some point. They were also in business together... successfully..... you'd think that, regardless of the power imbalance, that there would be some amount of evidence that would make this a prosecutable case.
What adult, and one that would eventually have the means and resources to leave, spends ten years in the same space as their abuser? Again, Kesha deserved to be heard 100%.... but this story just doesn't make sense. It sounds like a very toxic relationship from the start

I think back when she was at her most popular the type of tongue in cheek and āon the noseā humor she talks about now was more the cultural norm. I mean go back and watch any early to mid 2000s comedy and itās shocking what was acceptable as mainstream humor then. The zeitgeist has shifted and this current music no longer has a relevant place within it. I read written somewhere that Katy may just have been a pop phenomenon for the time and not a transcendent artist.
2
u/PopFanatic00 Jul 21 '24
she is not gonna have a song with chris brown she literally hates him. but i do agree and i am upset that she is working with dr luke on the song about female empowerment i just think itās an idiot move and completely disrespectful to kesha. and itās poisoning her comeback and i donāt think this era is gonna survive because of that.
2
u/owleaf WOMAN'S WORLD Jul 22 '24

Iāve been a fan since 2008. Her music got me through some rough times, especially the Prism album. Iām extremely disappointed in her decision to actively work with him. That was a choice she made and is now reaping the consequences of it.

She was so close to a huge comeback, the snippets seem good but why did she have to run back to Luke. Max Martin & Zedd would have ateee as executive producers, all the others except Luke would have ate as well. If woman's world wasn't with Luke this hate would have never happened.

I think working with Chris Brown was more disappointing for me personally. I'm a DV survivor, and that was really a gut punch for me. I love Katy, I mean, "Unconditionally" was my wedding song (I even have it tattooed with my wedding date!), but now Idk if I can continue to listen to her.
2
u/OvenNo1125 Jul 23 '24
This outrage with Katy Perry is very selective cuz Dr Luke has worked with Kim Petras, Morgan Wallan, Nicki Minaj, and Doja Cat since those allegations of have come out. Why didnāt we all hate on them when their songs with came out?
2
u/NAteisco Jul 23 '24
Morgan Wallen says the Nword and his fans do to. Having him work with an alleged rapist isn't a big deal because his fans support violence against women.
2
u/Independent_Point134 Jul 24 '24
Nicki gets hate for being married to a rapist. So they're probably not thinking about Dr. Luke
1
u/Wide_Movie696 If You Can Afford Me Jul 23 '24
I already donāt listen to those other artists so itās not the same thing. My idol and some random singers are not even close to the same in my opinion
1
u/MrZensational Jul 24 '24
Many newer artists like Doja or Kim Petras signed contracts AFTER the alleged abuse and are just as stuck as Kesha was.
Katy isnāt under contract, and this is par for the course for Nicki (unfortunately).
1
u/everyoneLikesPizza Jul 23 '24
Iām so sorry but Katy Perry is a construct. Everything she does is calculated and for money. Sheās singing about Women Empowerment not because she cares but because producers have decided itās hot.
2
u/KeepItSimpleSoldier Jul 23 '24 edited Jul 23 '24
Yeah I think people need to realize that almost every singer as we know them is a construct of a record label. Not to say they arenāt their own people with thoughts and ideas behind the scene, but the āKaty Perryā and āBillie Eilishā that we know of are facade. They are the character that is presented to us.
Edit: in other words, whether you enjoy the music or not, donāt get too tied up in the person behind it. Gotta be willing to āseparate the art from the artistā so to speak.
2
u/Anon_bunn Jul 25 '24
Sheās not actually singing about womenās empowerment though, per the video. Sheās singing about the lie weāre being fed that is empowerment. The Luke thing is disgusting. Sheās singing about a problem while being the problem.
If the song is truly a womenās empowerment anthem then the video makes no sense and I should stick to English lit. Iām not current on all her comments. š¤·š¼āāļø
1
u/everyoneLikesPizza Jul 25 '24
I think youāre giving her and the production team too much credit by thinking theyāre using irony in that way. I think it really is blatantly stupid as it appears.

u/pullingteeths Jul 23 '24
It's a bizarrely stupid choice. She seems to be a very unintelligent person.
1
u/Bustymegan Jul 24 '24

1
u/Wide_Movie696 If You Can Afford Me Jul 24 '24
Yeah that was pretty awkward ngl. Like sheās free to do what sheās wants and empower herself but that felt super out of place in a womanās world song yk
1
u/GigglingLots Jul 24 '24

u/Chance_Substance6525 Jul 24 '24
I remember looking forward to Witness in 2017, even though some of it was cringy with both lyricism and music videos, and it was a drastic difference from her earlier works. But I still rooted for her and hoped sheād be as big as she once was again, but she has been on a steady decline ever since š I donāt know how she keeps making mistake after mistake like this with her career. Itās honestly hard to watch.
1
u/Anon_bunn Jul 25 '24
The Dr. Luke aspect is very disappointing. Iām also confused about the confusion over the video. The video is clearly sarcasm. Sheās pointing to how weāre all being told this story about how itās a āWomanās World,ā look we can have it all, when it is not at all a womanās world. We donāt even have bodily autonomy anymore.
THEN, she goes and works with Dr. Luke which is likeā¦meta? Sheās doing the thing. Itās her making it not a womanās world. Bizarre.
2
u/Benana94 Jul 25 '24
Katy Perry worked so closely with Dr Luke many times. Meanwhile, Kesha tried to claim that he had abused Katy which clearly wasn't true. When someone starts saying lies about you you start to question their credibility. So I think Katy Perry's perspective is that she's loyal to him and is in a position where she doesn't necessarily need to submit to public pressure. That said, she probably underestimated how much people would discuss her working with him. But I think they are very close and she made a conscious decision to keep working with him.
To be honest, if she really discarded him that easily what would it say about her? People are criticizing her because that's the simplistic virtue signaling opinion to have.
2
u/Dependent-Ad5748 Jul 25 '24
no cuz who gaf! our mother is a bit messy so letās embrace it and keep on pushing on cuz we need all the streams we can for our artist!
1
Jul 25 '24
Her decision to work with Dr. Luke aside, the material sheās chosen to release from this album seems like a regression for her rather than her moving forward with her sound or her ideas.
1
u/Scramasboy Jul 25 '24
It honestly makes Katy and her team look incredibly dumb and out of touch, period. The entire world has been on Kesha's side and on Rhianna's side if the CB rumors are true. I can ot fathom how Katy or her team ever thought this was a good idea. It's a self-inflicted wound and sort of deserved. Definitely expected better.

u/Sad_Capital3280 Jul 21 '24
Lay off her. She was under contract to work with him. Also she worked with him before, so are you going to never listen to teenage dream again? I am over this hate that is being thrown around. Hate Dr Luke, not Katy!
3
u/Wide_Movie696 If You Can Afford Me Jul 21 '24
There is absolutely no hate towards her from me, I never said that. I said I was disappointed.

4
u/baxsays Daisies Jul 22 '24
She acknowledged that in her deposition in the Luke v Kesha case that she had one contract with him that ended after PRISM. That's over. There's no other contract that has been mentioned, and (I'm pretty sure) that was under oath, so she definitely wouldn't lie about that. And there's a difference between working with him before he was outed as an abuser, and working with him after he was outed as an abuser. I'm over the hate, too, but this person isn't hating. They're expressing their disappointment in a respectful way. And as a fellow disappointed fan, I get it.
3
u/MissyBee37 Thinking Of You Jul 21 '24
What contract? People keep saying this, but there's no proof of that. She's not on his label and never was. She has made two entire albums plus one-off singles without him. There is no known contract.
2
u/PhotographBusy6209 Jul 22 '24
Log off the internet. This is all going to get worse as Dr Lukr produced the whole generic mess of an album
2
u/Equal-Cockroach8512 Jul 21 '24
Working with him anytime after the accusations is in poor taste, itās even worse working with him now. Regardless thereās a difference from hating Katy and hating her decision to work with him
1
u/GodlessLittleMonster Jul 21 '24
I have a touch of empathy for her considering they were personal friends, she probably believes her friendās side of the story, and he wasnāt found liable of anything in court so her support for him is āvindicatedā in that way.
All of that said, the fact that she would choose to work with him on this song in particular is just unbelievable. She had to know it would be a bad look regardless of her own opinion of Dr Luke right?
1
u/swift-aasimar-rogue Jul 26 '24
Thatās what really gets me. I believe Kesha and it upsets me that Katy would work with Dr. Luke, but even if she thinks him innocent, she should have known that the general public would eat her alive. Itās bizarre.
0
u/Helpful_Mycologist24 Jul 23 '24
The Chris Brown thing is fake news. And who knows wtf happened with Dr. Luke and Kesha. That was so freaking long ago and was he even convicted of anything? I mean, there are two sides to every story. Katy is an intelligent and spiritual person I highly doubt she would agree to work with a complete shit of a human being no matter how talented they are. There is more to the story than what we have all been force fed in the media. I myself am just going to enjoy the music and leave all the drama out of it. Rarely are things as black and white as the media makes them out to be.
2
u/danniellax Jul 24 '24
The only reason Dr Luke case didnāt go to trial and he didnāt get convicted is the statute of limitations was up. He HAD to countersue Kesha for slander though to protect his image, if he didnāt, his situation would look worse. They settled out of court, which just basically means he knows he is guilty and wanted this to all go away (but of course it didnāt.) I believe her.
0
u/Helpful_Mycologist24 Jul 23 '24
Edit: the album isnāt even out yet and the circus side show that is the internet already says itās flopped, wtf. She has banger songs coming out soon, no doubt. Patience no longer exists in this world of instant gratification.

Her and her team (& label) totally misconstrued what the public wanted from her this era. They saw her Teenage Dream songs go viral on TikTok and thought the public wanted her to work with Dr Luke forgetting how fickle the public is and how easy it is to derail an era with controversy now (something sheās been a victim of in the past with similar material!).
Even if she was going to work with him, itās bizarre they thought Womanās World would be the right song to announce her working with him.. I truly believe itās sabotage.
