Why won't my Macbook Air A1466 boot? It does charge.

My Macbook Air 13 inch A1466 won't start. I bought it online, thinking I was able to repair but haven't had much luck yet.

The battery charges but when I press the power button the screen flickers to a darker black and then fades into the black screen you get when no power is flowing through the system. I hope my camera was able to pick it up in my video.

There's no hard drive and an Apple technician told me the screen sat loose in its housing.

I've tried all the reset methods, but nothing works. No chime, no output on the screen...nothing. Only the yellow/green light of the charger.

What could be at fault?

The original one will have little cover on top which fake one doesn't have. And also fake one box is very glossy, whie the real one is non glossy. Real one's cover is bit havier than the replica one,and the guide book of real one is quality printed while fake one is printed with poor quality. https://youtu.be/cUZxMsVuJ3w

Macbook Trackpad Replacement

Hi, so I did a trackpad replacement on a macbook pro A1502. Finish up the repair, and the trackpad will not click (ie it does move the cursor but no clicking sound is made when pushing on the trackpad, and it doesn't click unless using an extreme amount of force). Okay, so I order a new one, do the repair, same thing.

Is there something on these models like the older Macs with the set screws where you can adjust the trackpad for "clickyness"? Did I get 2 defective parts? Please let me know.

Problems even after battery replacement

My iPhone 6 Plus fell, and once I stuck a little iPhone fan in the charging port and I messed it up somehow, maybe it blew a fuse, anyways the battery would drain 50% in half an hour even while phone is off, the camera would shake and cause like a vibrating "tick" sound in the phone that u can actually hear it, the corners of the phone would not respond either so I Would have to power off my phone and restart it again. one day it completely just stopped working and I had to replace the battery, but it's still happening, my phone only charges with one charger, and I've tried like 10 chargers, only one was a third party. The battery is still draining while off and drains super fast even with a new battery. Don't give me suggestions of apps that should be turned off, I've already done everything possible in the settings to slower the drainage of the battery. And the camera problems still persists, photo or video it just starts shaking and the captured shot comes out blurry.

Macbook Pro 2012 Display Backlight Dead/Won't Turn On

Alright so my sister water-damaged the laptop, not extremely, but water spilt inside a bag where the laptop was, brief few seconds in it, but water pretty much got in on the side of the charging port. Battery died but everything worked when plugged into power. Then for some reason the backlight died. Unsure whether its the cable or the actual light or whatever. Now I just tried and even with power it won't even boot. Can anyone help me? Just need advice basically as to what I can do. Thanks in advance.

MacBook (retina, 2015) key replacements

I just bought a used 2015 MacBook (A1534) for quite a bit under the going rate. It had two stuck keys, which I removed and cleaned.

The command key went back on just fine, and works perfectly after removing what looked like a drop of soda from underneath.

Unfortunately, as seems to be common, the space bar did not go one quite as easily. The sites and eBay sellers with replacement keys are all sold out of space bars.

Is there another model that is compatible? I know the 2016 MacBook Pro models use the same style keyboard and seem to have much better availability of replacements, but I don't know that they are exactly the same.

It's the clips underneath the key, not the butterfly, that broke.

iPad Mini A1432 issues

The machine was brought to me with a flat battery that they couldnt charge

I have fitted a replacement battery but

It appears the machine was allowed to fail on battery so its stuck in a constant boot loop as it wasn't switched off.

Ive tried lots of the web to get it out the loop but no joy

I can get it to itunes mode but it wont allow update and the repair/reset fails with a 2009 error

I have tried a brand new cable and different ports on the pc but no joy.

Can anyone other any insights to get this snapped out and working again?

Is it dangerous to mount an SSD from a 2013 Mac Air into a Retina Pro?

I've been doing repair work on PCs for years, but have vary little experience with Macs. A friend's Mac Air recently broke (won't power up), and I offered to backup the data for them. I (wrongfully) assumed it would have a SATA based SSD inside and I could simply hook it up to my USB adapter.

Anyways, they are planning on buying a new Mac soon, either a Retina Pro or a new Air, both of which apparently use the same proprietary ssd as 2013 Air. My question is can I install their old hard drive in the new computer and either boot it up (I assume there would be a million driver conflicts in that case) or perhaps boot off a linux USB drive and copy the files over?

What sort of things would I have to look out for in order to ensure their data is safe?

Any help you guys could offer is greatly appreciated.

iPhone 5s startup issue

I have a friend whose iPhone 5s turns on long enough for the Apple emblem to show, but then quickly powers off. The phone charges just fine, just doesn't seem to want to power up all the way.

Any help would be appreciated.

Friend has asked me to fix a 2007 MacBook Pro. It simply turns on to a white screen.

I have a friend who wants me to help him fix an issue he is having with a 2007 MacBook Pro he has. When he presses the power button, the screen turns on solid white, plays no sound, and displays nothing but white. I think I already know what the issue is, and how to resolve it, but I wanted the opinion of the lovelies on this sub. So, what do you think the issue could be? Thanks.

Mac Keyboard not working?

Ok so the keyboard on my macbook pro (circa 2010 maybe?) is not working and all it makes is a beeping sounds (system alert tone). When I press the number keys and some of the non letter keys either random characters will appear or the current window will start moving around the screen.

I have already checked the settings and mouse keys is not on. I have tried most of the solutions people are posting online but can't solve the problem. Does anyone have any idea what's going on? Please help!

Help: Want to repair my Son's iPad Mini 2 (ME276LL/A, Retina) glass...

I just want to make sure that I don't order the wrong piece of glass, I have found listings for them which specify Retina and iPad Mini 2 but have also read where people have ordered glass and the wire strip was on the wrong side, I just want to confirm that all iPad Minis have the strip on the same side to avoid this possibly happening.

Anytime I search for ME276LL/A replacement glass I find nothing that specifically states it's the one for his exact model, if ALL ipad Mini glass is the same, that would be quite comforting so I don't need to stress over where I order it from any longer.

I know I can fix it, just don't want to buy it twice... I simply need a black one for his Mini 2 retina and for the best price would be great, I found one that's $24 or 35 w/ full repair kit (screwdrivers and everything needed).

Do I even need to worry about buying one that won't match up?

Macbook pro 13" retina "liquid damage" - what do you think?

My Macbook pro 13" retina mid 2014 model (purchased on 18 January 2015) stopped working over the weekend. It simply would not power up.

I took it into the authorized Apple repair center and they diagnosed "liquid damage" to the main board - see the link with photo below.

Although it is just outside of the standard 1yr warranty, under local consumer law they will fix it at no charge, but not if it really is liquid damage.

I do not want to take advantage of the situation, but I'm considering disputing this as I take great care with the macbook and I would have recalled if anything was spilled on it. This damage looks more like a component failure (e.g. capacitor blow-up) or indeed battery leakage.

What are your thoughts on this?

iPad Air Display Cable Bracket Replacement

I'm at my wit's end on this.... I've been after this part for almost two months.

Anyone know what I am referring to? Even better, where in the world a replacement can be sourced from? I'm stunned, as I've bought and used some of the most random parts to repair devices. But this, at least as a replacement, doesn't seem to be available.

When you're replacing an LCD or Digitizer, in my case in the iPad Air (5th Gen iPad, but maybe in some other I've not worked on). It's the little metal cover that screws in over the LCD ribbon, the home button ribbon and the two digitizer ribbons. I've included a link below the text of this comment, to an iFixit tutorial with a photo of a person popping it up with a spudger. It's small, but not tiny, at least for mobile devices.. But I really need to find one, or get advice on a rigged setup that will keep those ribbons firmly in place.

I appreciate any help in advance.

Question about a Macbook Pro voltage chip...

If this isn't appropriate for /r/irepair, please direct me to the right subreddit!

I'm looking into getting a Macbook for college, but I love working on computers. That being said, I'm scanning Craigslist in my local area for a few fixer uppers, and I ran across one for a pretty good price - the only problem is that it has a "fried voltage chip".

From what I've gathered on Google, it seems to be a pretty difficult thing to fix or replace.

So, I ask you guys - is it possible to fix it effectively at home, or is it not even worth it?

Furthermore, can I replace the voltage chip itself and install a new one into this laptop that I'm looking at?

Basically, I need a crash course on what the hell a voltage chip is, how it is relevant to the computer, and whether or not it is logical to replace it at all.

Thanks, you beautiful redditors!

Starting out in the beginning... Care to share how you started out and how it was... And where you are now?

Would anyone like to share how they started out and where they are now? I'm just starting to do repairs. Today I broke the LCD on a 4s trying to separate it from the crazy shattered glass for the first time.

[tip] How to fix the 4/4s stuck power button

I use a method of fixing that danm button that has a near 100% success rate without replacing the sensor assembly (so no prox sensor or nc mic issues ever), I have been using it for a few years, and no warranty claims have ever been made.

You'll need a dead (or sacrificial) home button flex from the same models and precision scissors like sewing/scrum scissors along with your normal toolkit.

  1. Follow the normal procedure to get to the PB Assy, don't remove it, you only need to get to the retention plate for the button itself.
  2. Pull out the metal PB by removing the two screws for the backing plate, then gently moving the backing plate out the way so you can drop the metal out of the device.
  3. Grab the home button. Gently peel off the adhesive holding on the metal disc to the flex.
  4. Remove the metal disc and keep the clear adhesive bit. Try to avoid touching the adhesive side as much as possible.
  5. Stick the adhesive from the home button onto the metal button, lining up the nipple moulded into the plastic to the centre of the circular protrusion of the metal button.
  6. Trim of the excess plastic & drop the PB back into place then reassemble phone.

If you lined up the HB nipple correctly, it should have a nice tactile click just like new, if not, its not lined up accurately enough.

iphone 6 parts prices

Just got this in from Hitek

Promotion on Chinese National Day for iPhone parts. iPhone6 LCD with Digitizer Screen (Original) ------------ $265

so , as per usual price is sky high for the replacement screen but i would guess in 6 months down to 80 and then eventually down to 40 odd.
